Cute graphics and sounds! This was very fun to play, feels like the beetle was built for this game (its shape works well to bounce boxes off the platform).

Recording feature was a cool added bonus. Great work!

At first it seems to be easy but wait for it, those boxes started to appear really fast! I liked the car control and physics and how polished it feels. Nice job!

cute game! seems pretty polished. :) I only feel like it was pretty hard to control which kind of bubbles you collect

Developer

Thanks! You can beep (up arrow or tap the car) to blow the bad bubbles away.

I really enjoyed playing this game. I found it particularly satisfying to try and catch the boxes such that they'd rebound from the car off the sides (I liked trying to use the explosion power to my advantage too) :D Only suggestion I can think of is maybe to have some kind of score tracking so you can go for high scores :)

Great work!

Developer

Thanks! Scores is on the to-do list 😊

Nice game with nice concepts!

I loved trying all kind of “physics” between the falling objects and the angle of the player’s hit box

Love the art and the procedural sound is impressive. I enjoyed playing it, but I wish there is a little more to the game such as different obstacles, or maps.

Thanks! I got about as much in as I could in a month of spare time.  Hopefully I'll get time to add to it after the jam. Lots of ideas 🙂

Liking the little quotes from the bug. The game is easy to pick up and play, and the audio is satisfying. The physics on the car was neat.

Fun game. I like the multi-platform support and extra features like recording.

Interesting and addictive. the music used is also funny.

Nice "platformer" :p I am guessing coding the physics part wasn't trivial for this ! Also hilarious that the bug is driving :D

Developer

Thanks! One of the reasons to build the game was to learn a physics library. Turns out it wasn't that hard 😁 https://brm.io/matter-js/

Fun and clever idea, graphics were awesome! Some jolly music would have crowned this, great work 👍

This is a cool game, really nice idea and great physics.

Really funny concept and well done with a proper physics engine. Love the comments from the bug in the bug too!

And the car is also important here guys, it's the Beetle! :D

I can't really explain why, but I think I'm waaaaaay too amused at the fact that there's a bug driving a bug. It shouldn't be that funny, but it made me laugh. So, kudos to you for coming up with that concept. Oh, and I had fun playing the game as well! The art, and sound fit beautifully and I definitely noticed a difference after hitting a few red bubbles. I could barely push a little box off of the screen. I learned quickly to avoid them.  Very well done, good sir!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words. I wonder if people found the beep control for blowing away unwanted bubbles. I didn't really spell it out to leave it as a nice surprise for the player.

This game really makes you FEEL like you're a bug driving a car. I'm glad I got to teach those boxes a lesson, but I do have a few questions. What does the engine strength and whatever do? Because I kept receiving the powerups but I didn't feel a whole lot of noticeable difference. And what is the recording feature for?

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks! Driving feel comes from physics modelled wheels and tyres with torque and friction values. If I had more time I would have modelled the engine and drivetrain too. I hope to reuse some of the learning in an online driving sim I am building.

Bubbles came fairly late and likely need to be tuned a lot more but they do all affect the physics model of the car.

Recording feature is in-game video recording. I built the game in the browser mostly on a Chromebook as an experiment into what the web can do these days and gameplay recording felt like a gap in the technology so I built a solution into the game. There's more detail in the dev log I wrote about it.

Thanks for the great comments and questions!

A very simple yet fun game! Runs very smoothly on my browser, didn't have any issues with it. Well done!

lol, nice, I used to have one of those... and you even got correctly the rear wheel drive!

Developer

You have great taste in cars. I was going for a '74 super 1600. Thanks!

simple and cute although a little slow in ramping up the difficulty :) Great work.

Developer

Yeah, It's a bit skewed towards younger players (my kids) and also needs more tuning. I might need a difficulty setting or some other way to avoid strong players having to replay early stages. Thanks for the comment!
