Very unique mechanics. I am not sure if I completed the game, I got to the point where the frog king says something along the line of "I just want to save my queen" and the game brings me back to the title page. I didn't get to save my friend :(
This is just my opinion, but I think the unique mechanics and the art assets (they are very beautiful and I wish I could interact with them) would make a better puzzle game than a combat one, like the one where you light a fire at the beginning of the game. Without the combat pressuring you to make a decision, there would be less fumbling and frustration. Overall, I think the game has a lot of potentials and I really enjoyed playing it.
Loved the art and the the music! Bouthina is adorable, actually all the characters are great. The gameplay mechanic is really smart too.
Awesome mechanic with the word-grabbing! Sadly, I walked off the edge of the map so I couldn't finish the game. One thing I thought about was that the text was a bit hard to read sometimes since the rows had a tendency of floating over each other. Other than that, really good game!
Cool graphics and unique mechanics, but I had issues with cursor not being locked, making it pretty annoying to reach for stuff sometimes.
Great work overall!
This seemed like a cute entry, though unfortunately I ran into a number of bugs which made it very difficult to play through till the end:
- Right at the start where if you walk left instead of right, you fall off the world and get stuck in a weird infinite loop with an npc who happens to be over there
- The mouse doesn't seem to be locked, which means you often end up hitting invisible "walls" while drawing a path for the stem and have to try to re-align your hidden cursor and try again
- The boss frog on the trash pile kept on getting stuck, making it impossible to progress: She would do one or two taunts + attacks, but at some point would taunt and not attack or continue looping, leaving you without any way to continue the fight
Mechanical issues aside, this was great, it had a lot of fun art and ideas!
Omg I never even put anything to block them from the left at the start... What a rookie mistake smh my head. We'll definitely be fixing how the cursor dragging works, and I'm sorry to hear that you had issues with Ms. Garbara the frog miniboss. I'll be sure to fix that when we update the game as well. Thank you for playing and for your compliments about the art and ideas!
You got a lot done for a jam game. I really like that atmosphere resulted from some great art in combination with the music. I also ran into the out of bounds bug someone else has already reported. Nice thing about this jam is that if your game has bugs then that just fits the theme. Hope you do a post jam update.
This is lovingly created and clearly a lot of work. You’ve put a lot of effort and skill in and the result shows.
I thought the flower stem grabbing words rather than items in the environment was a lost opportunity tbh, but even still the words appeared in a nice way, although the waving made them harder to read at times.
Regrettably I ran in to a bug fairly early on… After the tutorial when you jump across the swinging lift/bridges I appeared to go right off the end of the screen. I found a frog talking after that on the ground to the left; but my character was somewhere offscreen or invisible.
I also had some difficulty with the mouse bounds, I have a dual screen setup and was playing on an ultra wide screen. Because the mouse was hidden but never repositioned I couldn’t see my cursor but could regularly go offscreen edges making some words hard to grab without first using my second monitor to position my mouse right in the corner/edge and then having enough movement across the screen to reach the word.
The mechanics is unique and the quality of the art is beyond one you would expect in a game jam. There's quite a few different items available even though it's development time is short. The way text pops up is pretty interesting too.
I want to point out a few bugs I've encountered:
- The growth of the stem is limited by where the mouse is at the start of the click
- You can walk off the platform to the right of where you get the first shield
- Stepping sound effect continues to play when hiding while walking
As for some criticisms:
- Text can be a bit too wobbly and overlap with each other
- Jumping doesn't feel natural
- Moving platform feels unnecessary to be in the game. It doesn't contribute the game mechanics or storytelling
Still, most of the criticisms are just nit-picky. The quality of the game far exceeded my expectations and is very enjoyable to play. Great job on the jam!
Thank you so much for playing and giving such a comprehensive review!! It's absolutely invaluable to us. The text and stem mechanics can definitely be iterated further and thank you for pointing out some bugs as well! Really grateful you took the time to play and write this out. C: Hope you enjoyed it anyways!
Amazing art and concept! However I didn't get very far in the game because I kept having trouble with the flower drawing part. It seems like there's a bug where the position of my cursor is a huge offset away from where the flower is. I tried to move the character around to help with that a little bit but eventually gave up. Maybe a visible cursor would help in the case. :(
Thank you for playing! Definitely the stem drawing could be polished and a visible cursor is a very good comment we will keep in mind. I believe the flower drawing gets a little easier by upping the sensitivity and playing in full screen if you would like to get further in the game-- but nonetheless, thank you so much for playing and reviewing! C:
5 star game overall, very polished and big effort has gone into this, gameplay is smooth, audio was completely awesome and so was the graphics, congratulations for this!
