I really liked the way track is generated, with all the hills. It made it more fun than the usual endless runner.
Great work, overall!
Thanks, I really liked the result too. At the idea stage I was thinking off a bee and rolling hills. It turned out very well. Thanks for playing!
The most dramatic bee game in the market :)
Enjoyable flying perspective, made it feel like a roller coaster. Don't know if it's my reflexes, but sometimes rocks would come up during turns and be hard to react to because of the shifting perspective. Music suites the game really well, it felt like endlessly falling down a rabbit hole.
Not your reflexes, this game is cheating on you.
Bees do not jump, haha. But don't worry, your not the first making the comment. It's a flying mechanics, and in top height you fly over al the rocks. I might make the rising a bit faster so you have a chance to avoid the rocks just around the corner. Thanks for playing!
I like the rollercoaster aspect which keeps the game fast moving, I expect we ran into some pretty similar design aspects when trying to work out track normals 😅 Fun and easy to pick up!
thanks for playing, already checked your video and yours look really good. Did you use some form of curve for the track too? I used the derivative of my curve and turn that vector 90 degree so it's perpendicular on the track, like I position the bee and create the tracks just in another axis. Will be playing yours and a view others when I got my oldest kid to sleep in his new bed, might take a while :)
I created my tracks in blender so I had to use some funky methods to work out which way up my bugs should be, I watched this tutorial which suggests using a bunch of raycasts in different directions and then aggregating the surface normals - it does lead to some weird behaviour sometimes though (bugs falling sideways or up when they’re far enough from the ground)
Good game, fun to play! Very good idea for this jam. Some times the terrain feels like it has a very high slope. Sure it is a fun game if polished.
Thanks for playing! The changes in the terrain could really use some more love I tried finding a good balance between looking good and being playable by changing some easy numbers but it needs some more checks.
A pretty solid game. The way the camera shifts is a really unique way to add difficulty to an endless runner-style game like this.
The way random obstacles are placed could be tweaked a bit... there were times where virtually the entire road ahead was filled with rocks, and times when a flower was literally impossible to collect because of where it was placed. I also wish the shadows were adjusted a bit... sometimes, things are a little too dark to see, and I think the low poly models are too pretty to obscure like that.
There's a lot of potential in this concept! Perhaps if you collect five of the same flower color, it could give you a brief power-up? I'd love to see this expanded in the future!
thanks a lot, so many ideas where left out because of time. The flowers where added as a form of persistent currency between games to buy additional powers and lives. I agree the shadows and rendering could be tweaked as well as the placement which is almost completely random atm. Thanks for playing!
I like how it's a rolling hills style course rather than flat. Adds some cool difficulty spikes when you're going over the top of a hill wondering what's about to come next. Music is cool too!
I agree with the others, I loved the rollercoaster dynamic instead of a flat left/right (which it is, but the new dimension of movement 100% makes it feel like a whole different game)! If this was on the app-store it would most likely be installed on my phone to kill time on the journey to work, brilliant casual game!
thanks for playing! It will end up there including the ideas I posted on the game page.
Good game, loved the rollercoaster path where you can’t see whats coming next, the music is on point and the controllers are nice.
Some feedbacks, to run it on linux I had to rollback my
java -version
to java-8-openjdk, I would love to be written somewhere the command to run a jar (I always forgot)java -jar bee-game.0.9.08.jar
and maybe a reward after a number of flower I get a little bit of heath back? But impressive implementation of a 3d game using LIBGDX, congrats.
thanks for playing and glad you liked it. The flowers where meant as a persistent currency throughout games to buy powerups and lives.
I like that instead of being a flat endless runner, the game follows a rollercoaster path with ups and downs. And very nice and calming music. Sometimes the HUD at the top of the screen does obstruct the view if we are going up, but it's just a minor thing. Great game !
Thanks for playing, your not the only one anoyed by the hud. I polished it in the final stages and should have moved it to the bottom of the screen.
Great technical skills with the generating rollercoaster path. Music was awesome and the flight mechanic made this real fun. If next steps are a thing for you're considering, online leaderboards would be extra motivation ;) Good work!
Yeah, leaderboards where on the list but there was no time left. Power-ups and a item buy system with the flowers didn't make it either unfortunately. Thanks for playing!
I like the low-poly style art and enjoyed the gameplay (I managed to get 2774m with 57 flowers). Endless road generation with flowers and obstacles are pretty neat :) the game concept is nicely aligned with the theme.
one little thing I thought was that the "Distance" label and yellow bar on the top-center screen could make it a bit tricky to see the coming obstacles - it could be even greater if i can see what's coming from forward.
Thanks, and yeah, should have moved the gui to the bottom.
Great game! Love the music but it was a bit loud, maybe an options menu to adjust it? Love the idea of spiraling down as path, but it was little sickening. If you continue on working on it, would love to see incentives for going a further distance and collecting flowers!
I even tuned down the music quite a bit in one of the last pushes. Thanks for the feedback and playing my game!
Really cool feel! it's a rollercoaster
Great game, great music.
Could lessen the music volume a little bit and add more speed gradually for the bee. Also, add different types of flowers with different effects like: slow down, dizziness (randomness in motion - should be avoided), temporary speed which is a debuff (should be avoided).
Power ups (and perhaps downs) were on the list, as well as the flowers being a payment method for buying extra stuff like lives and head starts. But you know... time. Thanks for playing.
The music is downright gorgeous, and I love how the road twists and turns, which was a refreshing twist (heh) on the endless runner. Sometimes it was a little hard to see the stones because of the twists. Other than that, I loved the game! And I love bees :D
Thanks a lot. I fiddled around with the camera too long and settled for this because I needed to move on but I know what you mean, sometimes bumping in a rock is unavoidable. Thanks for playing!
Music is fantastic. I like how intuitive the game is. I had a problem distinguishing stones and flowers until last seconds, because of the lighting. Maybe if either one could be less reflective, it wouldn't be so confusing sometimes.
Thanks a lot, it is especially difficult when they are coming in from the shaded side I have noticed. I probably should have added another light but... you know... time :). Thanks for playing.
I liked the variety of flowers, and the music was nice! The camera zooming in and out caused a bit of motion sickness for me though, but I still managed to play the game twice, it was that fun!
Haha, my wife told me the same. It might be a bit too fast paced. I also had a static camera like the player fixed to the curve/rail but I like this dynamic one more. Thanks for playing!
Beautiful game - loved the aesthetic and music, pleasing to listen to and enjoyable to play!
