Cool idea, according to the console log it’s generating new maps a few steps ahead while I’m flying, sweet! I +1 the other comments about the randomness of the obstacles but I read that in the game description too, so it was expected. Graphics look cool, movement is slick, them interpretation is spot on, IMO needs a bit more to make it engaging for a longer time, e.g. the shooting concept you wrote in the description. Also not sure if it’s a know issue but if I maximise the screen the Back/Restart buttons don’t work unless I minimise it again, if I had to guess it’s probably assuming the position of them based on pixels but that is different if the game is stretched to fill my monitor? Anyway, well done with the curves and generation, I hope you’ll continue to develop this idea after the jam! <3

Thanks, for playing and your feedback. It does get boring quick atm, I'll get back to it when I can find the time. Also, thanks for pointing out the button bug, nobody apparently noticed. I'm probably not updating my ui screen when resizing.

really cool game <3

Very impressive 3D endless runner. Technically competent, looks good, good sound and music. Literally my only complaint is that I felt some of the rock hitboxes were a bit inconsistent. Besides that really nice entry.

Developer

you are the first one to notice. I cheated a bit here and just used the outer bound of the model as a aabb. But as the track rotate this led to too much hits so I just shrank it down for the time being. I still think it's pretty good and I think I had collision setup in like an hour.

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wonder if more people noticed and if it really needs more precise collision.

I don't like to do this but I have tried to play your game and my computer is not being friendly with it so all I have to go on is the video itself. I was wondering if perhaps you are able to publish an HTML version of it then I could play it from the browser and give better feedback.

(From the video alone - sorry) I like the pun on the name and the idea that you are picking up flowers although I say that you are pollinated them to keep the ecosystem alive ;). As for the endless runner  piece, the up/down and curve road made it a bit hard for me to follow. Not sure if the video is sped up or something but it felt like I might get a little queasy after a minute or two but cannot confirm this until I can actually play it :P

Last day before deadline I tried to optimize for web but I couldn't get more than 7 fps with a lag spike each time a section is generated. You have a Mac? Libgdx has a big which makes the modelcache (grouping models to write to the buffer) not work as intended for the Mac.  But after optimizing it did work for two people and got 40+ fps instead of < 10.

Playing does give less motion sickness I think. The camera also needs a bit more love but I like it much better then the static camera I had.

Surprisingly fun game!

I was really impressed with how dynamic the camera was, really adds a lot of excitement to the gameplay.

Developer

thanks for playing! I put some good effort in getting the camera like that as opposed to statically on the curve behind the player. It does need a bit more love so it looks over steep hills.

Pretty fun runner game!

The variable height of the track was pretty interesting for an endless runner style game, but the obstacles could be a bit tough sometimes.

Developer

Yeah,  the placement is a bit too random atm. Thanks for playing!

Great game with simple but effective mechanics. The camera movement feels a bit unresponsive sometimes, but I guess it makes it more challenging :)

Developer

the camera should anticipate the terrain a bit more, more or does feel like a cheating take when a Boulder appears just after a hill, haha.  Thanks for playing.

cool game! I got 6201m and 102 Flowers :) sometimes it was hard to evade, because of the camera, but all in all, a pretty polished game!

Developer

well done, my best was 54xx. Thanks for playing.

I really enjoyed it! It's a great game. I really like how it is not just flat terrain. Maybe instead of completely randomized placement for the rocks and flowers you could also add some patterns every now and then to spice up the gameplay.

Developer(+1)

yeah, a lot of ideas did not make it (yet) including more interesting levels. Last hour I implemented gradually increasing rock placements.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the way track is generated, with all the hills. It made it more fun than the usual endless runner.

Great work, overall!

Developer

Thanks, I really liked the result too. At the idea stage I was thinking off a bee and rolling hills.  It turned out very well. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

The most dramatic bee game in the market :)

Enjoyable flying perspective, made it feel like a roller coaster. Don't know if it's my reflexes, but sometimes rocks would come up during turns and be hard to react to because of the shifting perspective. Music suites the game really well, it felt like endlessly falling down a rabbit hole.

Developer(+1)

Not your reflexes, this game is cheating on you.

Bees do not jump,  haha. But don't worry, your not the first making the comment. It's a flying mechanics, and in top height you fly over al the rocks. I might make the rising a bit faster so you have a chance to avoid the rocks just around the corner. Thanks for playing!

I like the rollercoaster aspect which keeps the game fast moving, I expect we ran into some pretty similar design aspects when trying to work out track normals 😅 Fun and easy to pick up!

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing, already checked your video and yours look really good. Did you use some form of curve for the track too? I used the derivative of my curve and turn that vector 90 degree so it's perpendicular on the track,  like I position the bee and create the tracks just in another axis. Will be playing yours and a view others when I got my oldest kid to sleep in his new bed, might take a while :)

I created my tracks in blender so I had to use some funky methods to work out which way up my bugs should be, I watched this tutorial which suggests using a bunch of raycasts in different directions and then aggregating the surface normals - it does lead to some weird behaviour sometimes though (bugs falling sideways or up when they’re far enough from the ground)

Good game, fun to play! Very good idea for this jam. Some times the terrain feels like it has a very high slope. Sure it is a fun game if polished.

Developer

Thanks for playing! The changes in the terrain could really use some more love I tried finding a good balance between looking good and being playable by changing some easy numbers but it needs some more checks.

A pretty solid game. The way the camera shifts is a really unique way to add difficulty to an endless runner-style game like this.

The way random obstacles are placed could be tweaked a bit... there were times where virtually the entire road ahead was filled with rocks, and times when a flower was literally impossible to collect because of where it was placed. I also wish the shadows were adjusted a bit... sometimes, things are a little too dark to see, and I think the low poly models are too pretty to obscure like that.

There's a lot of potential in this concept! Perhaps if you collect five of the same flower color, it could give you a brief power-up? I'd love to see this expanded in the future!

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot,  so many ideas where left out because of time. The flowers where added as a form of persistent currency between games to buy additional powers and lives.  I agree the shadows and rendering could be tweaked as well as the placement which is almost completely random atm. Thanks for playing!

I like how it's a rolling hills style course rather than flat. Adds some cool difficulty spikes when you're going over the top of a hill wondering what's about to come next. Music is cool too!

Submitted(+1)

I agree with the others, I loved the rollercoaster dynamic instead of a flat left/right (which it is, but the new dimension of movement 100% makes it feel like a whole different game)! If this was on the app-store it would most likely be installed on my phone to kill time on the journey to work, brilliant casual game!

Developer

thanks for playing! It will end up there including the ideas I posted on the game page.

Good game, loved the rollercoaster path where you can’t see whats coming next, the music is on point and the controllers are nice.

Some feedbacks, to run it on linux I had to rollback my java -version to java-8-openjdk, I would love to be written somewhere the command to run a jar (I always forgot) java -jar bee-game.0.9.08.jar and maybe a reward after a number of flower I get a little bit of heath back?

But impressive implementation of a 3d game using LIBGDX, congrats.

Developer(+1)

thanks for playing and glad you liked it.  The flowers where meant as a persistent currency throughout games to buy powerups and lives.

I like that instead of being a flat endless runner, the game follows a rollercoaster path with ups and downs. And very nice and calming music. Sometimes the HUD at the top of the screen does obstruct the view if we are going up, but it's just a minor thing. Great game !

Developer

Thanks for playing, your not the only one anoyed by the hud. I polished it in the final stages and should have moved it to the bottom of the screen.
