I loved the noir art style, the character designs, the music, the environment and the animations! The move set is interesting, too. My favourite was the crash bandicoot spin :D
Nice submission!
Love the stylistic lizard noir!
I also really like that one of the enemy types is a turtle on a skateboard. :D
The combat does need some polishing, enemies will slowly drift away while beating on you, and start punching the air for a bit before re-orientating on the player. Getting stun locked is sort of a given for side scrolling beat-em-ups but can still feel frustrating when every action the player tries to take gets interrupted. The turtles sometimes skate off screen and leave the player stuck, waiting for them to come back and fight before they can progress.
The right-click charge attack is massively over powered, you can win every fight simply by holding down the button and sweeping up the enemies in your deadly whirlwind. A time limit on that would probably be a good idea going forward. :)
Sound effects for hitting/defeating enemies is also, of course, vital to a game like this.
Love to see beat 'em ups being represented here in the jam! Nice noirish art direction and solid combat foundation, would love to see it expanded with combos and more enemy types! :)
Love how you created and put together all of the aspects of this game! Very fun
Wow! That was really fantastic. Loved the art and overall ambiance, gameplay was pretty fun and engaging!
That was fun, really enjoyed it, making the enemies do a goth like dance to the tune was probably not intended - but I did it anyway, and it was great. The skating turtles were also a highlight
That you couldn't move forward all of a sudden was a bit irritating at first, but made a lot of sense after the first fight was over.
I wish there was something you could do in the side streets between each wave.
Awesome game, I really love the art. I played your game on my youtube and gave some of my thoughts and feedback. Mainly needs some sounds and when the turtles go off screen it feels like they are gone too long. Overall this was super awesome and the art is incredible. If you want to see my playthrough and feedback check it out here
Thank you for playing and featuring it on your youtube channel. We will be sure to check out your game this week too.
Really nice noir art style! I just wish there were more sound effects, though since besides the music the game is kind of quiet. Really nice game!
Love the style and the colours!
I see noir, I click noir! :D
The other commenters have pretty much summed up my experience with the game. I liked the background art too and I expected enemies to come out of every corner and maybe they will in a future version! With more time I know you can add more combos, enemies and animations that can add the variety to make this game a lot better.
Good job!
The art and noir tone are great. But it was hard to tell the baddies were taking hits since it looks like they were blocking when I attack them so some of the early fights takes a longer than I expected for starter baddies.
I like the vibe of the game, but it feels very unfinished (as I could see you have mentioned the time issue on the game page.)
Some main elements are missing such as some sound effects, some in-game storytelling.
Even so, I think this could become a nice game one day, its a good start point of an endless fighter!
We appreciate you playing our game, thank you! Though it is a bit disheartening that it feels very unfinished ^^; There is a lot of polishing we need to do, and some extra features we intend to add, but we had hoped that in its current state it is complete. We do have a short 20 second opening that plays as a plot but the web version didn't like using it so we attached it to the page instead. It is more intended to be an arcade-style endless, so we wanted to keep it simple as a way for it to be accessible to everyone.
We will take what you have mentioned into consideration though, and again, we appreciate the time to try our game and leave a comment :)
