Nice work the gameplay was fun and challenging and I liked the progression of the weapons. The environment was very cool to explore also. It was a satisfying game to play overall. The I think if there were spawn waves it'd be even better!
Nice atmosphere and story. Also felt like shooting mechanics were quite cool and "waves" were well paced. Was pretty cool to see that there is also some verticality. A solid entry for the jam!
Really fun shooter, which gets the main thing right - making the shooting feel good. Good pacing so you can get the upgrades without insta-dying. Also liked the lighting and general ambience. Well done!
This is a nice shooter game! I like the wide variety of weapons available and how each one feels like a substantial upgrade. It's also neat that we can climb up the towers, though the sharp angles of the stairs made it tricky to aim. Actually, the aiming took me a bit to get used to, since in most other top-down shooters I've played, aiming is done directionally rather than based on a raycast. I ended up shooting the ground instead of the enemies quite often 😅. Besides that, I found the game quite fun. Excellent work!
Yeah I realised the aiming might not be completely intuitive so I wanted to add a laser sight to the weapons but ran out of time.
I tried to mitigate that a tiny bit by making so that when you aim at the ground the bullet goes slightly higher on the vertical axis to help a little bit without making it too jarring.
Nice work! A good gameplay loop, using your current weapon to earn enough cash to upgrade to something better.
I like that you can't spring while reloading, so the player has to be mindful about when they do so and can swap back to weaker weapons in a pinch to buy themselves some time. Pricing two weapons at $800 is a nice way to gie the player some extra choice, since that's a situation where the upgrade path can diverge. I also liked that I could go up the stairs of the towers, but this turned out to be a bad strategy for me when I got cornered there, unable to escape. :)
I wish that it was smoother to transition between weapons, mostly it's not always obvious which one you have equipped at a time since the player model is small and the only UI indicator is the ammo count. As well, (and this is probably a skill issue thing) it was rare for me to be able to handle the current group of enemies without running out of bullets and having to dash around to get enough distance to safely reload.
Some stronger sound and visual effects on hitting enemies (and getting hit by enemies) would be appreciated, both to give the player feedback and to make the combat feel more satisfying.
Thanks for playing! That's a lot of useful feedback.
Yes I can see how an indicator for the current weapon would be useful. I also wanted to allow the player to switch weapons using the scroll wheel, but I couldn't get it working in time. And at least a stagger animation for the player and enemies would be a good addition, yes.
I might have made the game too difficult again by balancing it around me, but since I know how the game works, someone who plays it for the first time might find it too difficult. I should probably decrease the enemy hp a bit after the jam. But hopefully most players will be able to try out all the weapons.
I just played your game, it is fun, I like the game mood! I only wish if monsters were slower than me or the same speed because it is almost impossible to escape XD
Great game!
Hi, you can sprint with Shift and you move faster when you're moving in the direction you're looking.
But yes that's not something explained in the game.
Oh, I see, that will make it a lot better :)
