Great work! So many elements in this were REALLY well done. Metroidvanias are my fav, so I liked that about this too, props on the clever level design. I loved the artistry and the sprites, especially the rotation from moving left to right. Would have like to blast a slime ball end boss, but other than that, a SUPER solid entry. Well done.
The original plan included a bullet spongy boss, but it was one of the first features to be scrapped due to time constraints. I'm glad you enjoyed my little game, thank you for playing!
Some really well done art and music, with some well done and well balanced gameplay. The only minor issue I had was maybe the transition from dying to respawning could have been quicker? Would be cool to see the future of this
You're right, the death animation could be a bit snappier and get you back in action quicker. Thank you for the suggestion!
This really gives me great GameBoy vibes! Music, sounds, that nice scrolling between screens... Spot on!
I'm glad you liked it, thanks for playing!
The game was challenging but not too hard, which was appreciable, the level design was well done, and the game overall well finished for a jam, it would have been really good on the original gameboy !
Thank you for playing, and for the kind words!
So well done, I think this is the most Gameboy feeling game in the jam so far. The animations of your sprites, and Turing of the ship are so clean.
The weirdest thing I might have is just at the very start of the game when the player is getting used to the controls. I think going back all the way to the very start before the first checkpoint is a bit much and feels almost like ill never really progress without some leeway. It was odd that i could rest on everything but if i touched the elevator i exploded. It made since but i had to restart from the beginning like 10 times before I got used to it. It would have been nice if your starting spawn back room was the elevator room. Then it wouldn't feel like I'm seeing the two tutorial screens right before every time I start over.
the last thing is, just the ability to mute music but keep SFX. if i wana go for the long grind challenge ill want to keep sound but maybe turn off the music audio. this is always a super nice option to have
Nice job!
You know when you feel in the back of your head that you're forgetting something but can't quite place what it is? Up to the last hour of the jam, for me it was the mute button. I guess I'll add basic options post-jam.
Regarding the elevator thingies, that's something I followed very strictly from the original, without realizing how harmless those enemies look. In Cybernoid, anything that moves is an enemy. But here these things do look harmless on first sight, I guess I should add spikes to them or something.
I'll try to get more people to play the game and re-evaluate the placement of checkpoints if many of them have trouble with the first couple screens. Thank you very much for the detailed feedback!!
Cool game, I liked..
Really feels like a GB game and I didn't had any problems to understand what to do..
Congratulations on this game and for participating..
Thank you so much for playing!
Graphics, animations and audio are awesome. This game definitely is a serious entry. I just have a little issue with the controls, the way the player moves feel a bit strange to me, especially when going up. Beside of that, congrats, the game is great!
The original game had simulated gravity (you moved down automatically if you weren't pressing up), which I copied to some extent. It's certainly not a conventional player controller, and it could use some tweaking to feel more physical. Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
Very nice game, I absolutely loved it. Very creative with its level design. Music and visuals are great too, although some things were a bit indistinct to my eyes (at points I confused powerups and save stations with hazards). And regarding that, the atmosphere is absolutely amazing, and so is the fidelity of the game to the original gb hardware. Very well done.
You're right. If I had outlined the diamond pickups with white, the other items would read as pickups too. Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback!
This is great GBlike mini metroidvania!! great work!!
Thank you for playing!
Simply amazing! Probably the most GameBoy-ish game I've played in this jam. Good job!
Thank you!!!
6 stars for gameboyness, I would absolutely believe this is an original gameboy game. I only played for 15min, but it feels like this game could be a full-fletched gameboy game!
Thank you for playing!
Very nice entry, I liked so much!
It’s very complete, I liked this feeling in metroidvania haha, with exploration, whe sometimes you are lost and other times you have progress (find a path, secrets, abilities), very good.
I hope you didn't wander around totally lost for too long. Thank you for playing!
Don’t problem it has been fun :)
I loved this game! The level design is great, the graphics and soundtrack are very well done. You have a great job here, congratulations!
Thank you so much for playing!
This is really great. 100% can imagine playing this on GB. Fun game, nice graphics. Congrats :)
Thank you for playing!
Made me think about Megaman, I loved the level design, the different weapons, the juice of the game.. It is a really great game ! Congrats !
Thank you! I played my fair share of Megaman, enough to not want to use insta-death spikes in my games :-)
Great game! Music and graphics very consistent. I really liked the level design. At first it was difficult, but then I got control of the game and it was a lot of fun to play. Thanks for creating this game and giving us a good experience.
Thank you very much for playing!
Great pixel art, music and sound effects! It looks and feel like a Game Boy game. The controls are polished too. To be honest, I couldn't play a lot because I got frustrated. It seems that I don't have patience and I'm not good at dodging bullets lol. I haven't played Cybernoid, so I don't know if it's intended, but some attacks patterns felt a bit random.
All the enemies and bullet patterns are deterministic, and each room provides a safe starting point so you can evaluate the situation before advancing (well, at least they should). Most of the charm of this kind of game is to be very challenging in a small amount of rooms, I tried my best to make each challenge fair and avoid cheap deaths. It'd be awesome if you could give the game another go one day.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback!
Sure! I liked the aesthetics a lot and the game is really professional. I'll give it a try again.
About the random attacks, there was an enemy that moved vertically and I think it was shooting bullets at different heights (it was more or less two rooms after the second checkpoint). Maybe I'm wrong! I should play it more focused one day, as there are lots of submissions and so little time to play them...
This is the best I've played yet! Fully realized and polished. Nice!
Thank you for playing!!
I could totally see this as a real gameboy game, awesome job! It looks & feels so polished and I loved the music and sound effects
The music was the biggest challenge, it's my first time composing a chiptune. I'm cheating a bit with the amount of sound channels, but at least it's catchy. Thank you for playing!
I really enjoy the level design and graphics!! :) Good job!
Thanks! I had a lot of fun making those levels.
