It's so clean and polished, I'm impressed! Plus, this is a really clever and creative idea. I think it was a successful experiment! Nice work!

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad you think so, it means a lot

(1 edit)

I rememer this game and there are 2 main things i have in my head about this: The controls (SPOILER: They suck) And the racing (The tracks are well designed dont get me wrong. But how the game informs you of what happened. Like couldnt you make  different scenes and switch them instead of like {Fucking text} I mean its quite hard dont get me wrong but im making a game called phoenix wright ace attorney gb edition wich is literally that but with way more effort in it) Otherwisse good game

Developer

I'm sorry the gameplay wasn't what you expected. I was trying to make a racing management game and this seemed like the easiest way to make it in GB Studio in a week. Would you have wanted to see the cars moving around the track? I'm thinking about making the sequel in Unity, so I can do things like that. Thanks for playing!

:/ I meant like the way it is now but with the use of switching scenes quickly to make it seem like actual animation

Developer

A very ingenious solution, I admit

Really well done racing management game, love the music and this genuinely feels like a gameboy game. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm glad you think it feels like a Game Boy game!

The execution of the game is perfect. It is authentically Gameboy, really well done with the presentation, graphics, and music. The gameplay wasn't quite my cup of tea, but I know sports management games have a massive fanbase that would love getting into a game like this. Well done!

Developer

Thank you so much! Very kind words

I never did enjoying playing simulation games like Football Team Manager and the likes but this game got me hooked. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! Haha!

It's a management game, so , not my type, but I wanted to salute the idea and the overall polish and how well is the game visually and in term of UI for a gameboy limitations ! Congrats !

Developer

Thank you so much! I knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I'm glad you felt it was polished!

I really liked that it was a content management game. How did you handle the races? Are they truly random or are they planned in advance? A really nice way to overcome the limitations of GBStudio.

Developer(+1)

So each race has stats and they are compared to your car's stats at the beginning of each race giving a chance number between 1 and 5. Each lap, a random number is created between 1 and 5, if your chance number is bigger, it re-randomizes it and compares it repeatedly until it's not, this adds up to tell you how many places you've moved up in the lap, and then the opposite happens for moving down places. I made it so your chance value is never 5 and never 1 so you always have a chance to move up or down in the race (if the numbers match, the player keeps their position). So it literally means you never know what is going to happen until the race is over! But also means if you have properly set up your car for a race, you should be able to win (but not every time)!

And thank you, yeah, I would have loved to have the cars moving around the track but given it was only a week I wasn't sure how I'd even do it in GB Studio.

Excellent, thanks for the breakdown!

You could probably do car movement animations by overlapping sprites and playing an animation between them, but it would not be easy. I don't think I would've expected that feature even in a two week jam haha

It's an interesting concept for a game, and I enjoyed the way it controls and the upgrades. It surprised me that it was more of a management-type game and not a literal racer, but that just made it more memorable. Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much! Yeah, I tried something different with this one!

I especially like the art style of racing tracks, I was expecting something old lotus pc game, but was not disappointed. Good work.

Developer

I wish I was that good haha, thank you!

I love the authentic look and feel! Top notch gfx too!

Such a charming game and the graphics and music are really nostalgic!!

I was suprised that it's more like a simulation instead of actually driving the car, but it's an interesting concept. Maybe add in a bit more feedback for the player like little moving pixels or something to make it more engaging. But again, overall I really enjoyed this one! :)

Developer

Thank you! I'm glad it was charming! Yeah, I will definitely make that happen in my next game!

A point 'n click racing rpg on game boy. How can you not love it??

I'd love a version of this with a celebrity cover, but with someone like Ayrton Senna:

Developer

Hahaha what a great idea! and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

Super fun and really an enjoyable relaxing game not really having to worry about dexterity skills. Love the idea of a strategic racing game. I kind of wish there was more interaction though. Maybe if you could just control the acceleration or something through the corners indicated by a ball going around the track.

If you didn't want to add any additional control functions, just having the graphic if sprites racing around the track might give it that more fun aspect to it.

nice job!

Developer

Thank you so much! Yeah I completely agree, it is a nice proof of concept and I want to take the idea further with more engaging gameplay aspects like you suggested, thank you!

Very entertaining game, i spent 90 minutes beating it :D Very cool concept and a decent execution.

Developer(+1)

I'm so glad you made it to the end! Well done! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted(+1)

Impressed by how polished this game is! I do wish the races are a little bit more interactive though.

Developer(+1)

I agree, I want to make Take It Racing 2 where you see the cars and can tell your driver to drive more dangerously to try and get ahead and things like that. I'm glad it seems polished though!

Submitted(+1)

Really neat concept! How can I get more money to modify the car? I was coming in 10th every time on the basic track.

Developer

It's luck or bad luck sometimes, sorry it wasn't in your favor, once you've won it once, upgrade to get better odds and win more reliably

Submitted(+1)

awesome thanks for clarifying! i'll give it another go :)

Developer

No problem! Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Incredible presentation! I genuinely felt like I was playing it directly on a Gameboy! Very well done!!

Developer

Thank you! Yeah, if I exported it as a ROM it could be played in an Emulator!
