That was fun! Basic, but highly competent. The art and character design is charming! I was pleasantly surprised to see all of the NPC portraitures and unique enemy designs!

The audio is a bit loud; various combinations of music and sound effects peak the audio near or above +0.0 dB.

Also, quick question: on my end, ellipses turn into this squashed middle-aligned row, is that supposed to happen?

Good work!

hi, no it’s not supposed to happen, it appears to be a font issue and will be fixed in later versions after the jam, thanks for playing!

Well done. Great foundation to continue building.

Nice game. Interesting decision to combine top-down gameplay with gameplay of a platformer, similar to Zelda II now that I think about it. I can't really review the top-down movement, but I can review the platformer movement. It's fine, I like the crouch jump from SMB2, and the glide is also a pretty nice mechanic. It would be nice if you could shoot while moving however, more like a Mega Man game (wow, that's 3 NES game references). Other than that, the visuals and music also are also really good.

Also, I must know where I can buy comically large cheese.

The game looks cool and fun,  however for some reason the platform level is black and i can't see anything not sure why.

It has an RPG Nes era vibe, but with platform mechanics. Colorful a very well-done concept. You guys must be proud, congrats.

Really nice and creative game! I always admire rpg games and you nailed every aspect of it. Tho i do have some thoughts on the platform gameplay part.

  • At the first platform gameplay part, I noticed I couldn't differentiate what objects I can jump on and couldn't. So basically it's hard to tell which objects are in the background or in the foreground/gameplay itself.
  • At the second platform gameplay, I think you already noticed this but there are some enemies just willing to kill themselves lol.
  • And lastly, maybe I just have bad sense of direction but there are some parts of the second platform level that I couldn't figure out where to go, so sometimes it just puts me in a situation that I needed to do a leap of faith and hope that there would be platforms down there XD.

But it's still a very fun game and I still quite enjoyed it a lot, but it could even be better with just a few tweaks here and there. Nonetheless, this is probably one of the most effortful and well-designed games I have seen yet in this game jam, so great job both of you! :D

This is the only game I've played so far that lets player modify key bindings, well done! The art style is great, reminds me of the game Florence. Maybe you could try making an interactive narrative game next time?

Submitted

Not only is this game by far the best platformer out of every game I played this jam, but has also the best narrative and mechanics ^^
I LOVE the portraits you did! They're amazing and it deserves some praise. I'm amazed by how much content you were able to put inside this game for what time you had given. One can really tell your talented with art and writting :D
The music and sounds were also very fitting to the overall experience. And like others said I also really like that I could change the controls.
Amazing job

Developer

thank you for the review! But gotta give credit to Onix for his amazing art! I too am impressed with how much he was able to draw during this time period

I'm not good at platformers so I didn't get very far, but the mechanics are very good!

I appreciate the ability to change controls as well.

In case you didn't notice, I've revised my previous comment and gave a better assessment and rating to your game. I didn't realize that the default controls could be changed when I made my comment last night. Sorry!

Nice game dude! I get a little lost on the begin, but, the game looks really cool! I think you is making a really something, you should continue this project ;)

(I liked the musics, lmao)

Submitted

Whoa! I can tell a lot of work was put into this. Also holy crap control set up, nice! The writing is funny and the riddle was neat, if not a little cumbersome to enter the answer for.
I would like to know though who did the art and music? The credits don't specify.

Developer

I did the programming, music and story writing, and Onix did the art.

I like the art style very much, nice game! Having both styles was a nice touch to the gameplay!

To have changable controls is very luxury.
I tried the itch.io and gd.games version several times, unfortunately I can not manage to start the game in the main screen whatever buttons I pressed (tried with custom controls and default controls).
The screenshots are very promosing.

Developer

Hi, sorry to hear that. Have you tried clicking the game window multiple times? Itch.io sometimes like glitching out and I've experienced that bug myself. You can press the Period Key (   .   ) while the game is loading (during the game introduction) to reset to the first time and change your controls from there.

Thank you very much. I tried it again because it is looking promising, it seems that is now working for me, I am in the first level. :)

Developer

I'm glad it worked! Always here to help, thanks for playing!

I'm glad I found this comment because I stupidly set the crouch to Alt and since this game doesn't Fullscreen my browser kept using Alt for itself and not the game lol, Review soon!

nice art and game, well done, can you please play my game to get feedback!

I loved the hand-drawn graphics, the script, the characters (the orb spirit was cute!), and the ability to glide after a super jump (which I used a lot while I was playing the game). Final boss was challenging, but once I figured out its weak point and how to dodge its attacks, I was able to beat it in a few tries. I also liked how the player is allowed to change the controls at the start of the game. I initially didn't like how I had to use LShift to crouch, but upon a second playthrough, I changed to the down arrow key and had a much easier time beating the game.

A minor issue I had was that I didn't like how I was not able fire projectiles while I was in mid-air. I also would've liked it if the pressure tile puzzles had letters on them so that I know what word I was spelling out.

It's a pretty solid game overall. Great job on the game!
