Made a gameplay Vid with your game and some other entries

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for featuring our game!

It was great to see what you found fun, intuitive and challenging. It was also valuable for us to see what you found confusing or unclear.

The cannon and sprinting features are two common examples we saw play testers and other jam participants have trouble with.

For example, the cannon works like any other hazard. It is interactive only when it has a call out bubble above or in the sidebar. But I guess players got excited by the idea of firing a cannon so tried to use it even when it is idle.

If we had time to spare during the jam we would have definitely improved the user experience and removed such ambiguities.

Wow top notch :) we made a video featuring your game if you want more detailed feedback :)

Cool game!

Thanks! Your game is pretty cool, too. We liked the sci-fi survival theme.

However, we experienced a few synchronization bugs while playing. We had similar issues with our game during development. We managed to fix them using the messaging system. You can check it out on the official tutorial video: https://youtu.be/6Y5ARM689c4?t=368

Thanks for your feedback. I know my game has some synch bugs, but they all should be visual bugs and yes I couldn't managed to fix them in time. I actually have no idea how could I fix those visual synch bugs with message system... What's going on under the roof mostly handled by host so there shouldn't be any bugs other than visual synching issues. Can you give me some examples of synch bugs you encountered?

Really fun game. I liked the tutorial where you repair every problem in a row. Nice sounds and good controls.

Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to make sure we have a good interactive onboarding process so players feel ready before jumping into the lobby. Glad you liked it.

We like your game concept, too. Before we settled on a pirate theme, we also considered doing a plumbing/home improvement themed game.

This is a fun game! I like the simple graphics. It is funny how you fix so many things with duct tape (what a great invention).

Btw, you can check out my game here: https://itch.io/jam/gdevelop-big-game-jam-6/rate/3091508

Developer

Thanks for the feeback! Yes, duct tape is, in fact, magic!

Sorry your game got disqualified! Maybe it would have gone unnoticed if you hadn’t made a post?

yeah that’s what I was wondering.

The character customization is so cute! Fun game :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! The character customization feature was one of the last features we got working correctly.

You guys nailed it with this one! I'm not sure if you and the team are inspired by Behemoth (devs of Castle Crashers, Battleblock Theater), but the style is definitely reminiscent of it. From the men rowing crying, the goofy character selection, even down to the controls being written on a chalk board, this game oozes charm.

The controls are clear, you understand perfectly what you're supposed to do. My only critique, and this is a small one, would be to create a song that's longer than a short loop, but I know this was a timed event, so we have to cut corners somewhere. I also wasn't sure how to load the canon balls, I kept trying to press E near the canon, but nothing happened, so I'm not sure if that needs to be tweaked or maybe some simple text explaining how to use it.

Overall, this is one of my favorite submissions for the Jam.

Nice work guys!

Developer

You nailed it. The art was indeed inspired by Behemoth and some more contemporary games with a similar style like Brotato & Space Gladiators.

The music was added 4 hours before the submission was due, so we’re glad we actually pulled something through.

We noticed some other players experience a bit of confusion around the cannon. It is similar to the other hazards. You can only interact with it once it’s called out in the sidebar. We should have done a better job of communicating this to the player.

Thank you for the feedback and kind comments!

Matches the theme perfectly! I like the little characters and the nautical theme ;)

Developer

Thanks! We were surprised to see another pirate theme game. Pretty fun with a great art style! ;)

Developer

Thanks! Your game has a neat art style too.

pretty good game! i like the cartoony graphics and that the game was pretty simple to understand the only thing i would probably change is that the interact button was sometimes [E] and sometimes [SPACE] (E was probably when picking up and SPACE when placing? but it got confusing sometimes but idk that might've just been skill issue) idk was else to say pretty good game..

also if you have the time could you check out my submission as well? https://itch.io/jam/gdevelop-big-game-jam-6/rate/3096807
