Got to wave 9 babyyyy.

Another commenter mentioned tilt to live and I totally agree. I really love the one-shot per weapon mechanic. This game also reminds me a lot of "Super crate box" if you know that game.

Having weapons be so consumable makes each weapon feel so much more important. Picking up a clutch Sword or Laser rifle with a big stack of enemies onscreen feels soo incredibly satisfying. This game would benefit a little from some more "juice" if that makes sense (maybe some more camera-related fx like screenshake or freeze frame here and there). Sometimes it felt a little like I was slicing through tissue paper when I slashed through a bunch of enemies at once.

I really enjoyed this game! Great job!

Developer

Even more juice? You must really love juice :D There is a screenshake but I made it very subtle. Just a few minutes ago I was thinking about slowing time when you get hit, so that's an idea for the future.

If you want, you can check out my gameplay video. Level 21 babyyyy

7 Waves- Really well polished game! It reminds me a lot of Tilt to Live- I used to play that game on ends trying to keep as many enemies on screen alive as I could.

Developer

Oh, for Android, right? :) I'm glad that you enjoyed the game :D If you liked the art style, you can check a comparison between the concept art and the final artwork here: https://twitter.com/kilderdev/status/1158112776814039041?s=20

Submitted

Hahaha, well- the concept art is definitely cooler looking. The player character in the game is cute in comparison ;)

Yes TtL was on android and apple devices. The sequel is kinda bad though so avoid that one.

Developer(+1)

I didn't get to play the sequel ^^ and yes XD we decided to go for a cute approach on the style XD if you check my other games, most of them are "cute" XD I do have more serious artwork tho, on instagram and deviant art ^^;

Submitted

Great visual style, sound effects, overall very polished.  Made it to wave 7 before I was overwhelmed.

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much.

Try to get to level 20. Then you know what overwhelmed really means :D Btw. I forgot that I had one medikit left -.- Fail

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing it :D And I'm really glad that you liked the art style :) I've posted one of the initial concept arts on my twitter xD https://twitter.com/kilderdev you can check it if you're curious :)

Submitted(+1)

This is so good and polished, probably the best game of this genre I have seen in this jam yet.

Would play again.

Developer(+1)

You can play as often as you want. Not holding you back :D

And thank you very much for calling it the best game.

Submitted(+1)

SO SO SO SO GOOD!!!! There's so much variety, every weapon has a different strategy! Imagine this with upgrades! I'm silently squealing at the thought of that.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for that comment, because you really enjoyed the game apparently :D

2 more hours and upgrades would have been implemented. The idea was that after each wave you could choose one door and it would give you an upgrade. That would have made  the game even better :D

Submitted(+1)

This is fun! I like the weapon variety a lot!

Developer

Thank you for playing it :D I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^

Submitted(+1)

This is really cool. I especially like that the sword always one shots  to encourage risking getting close to the enemy

Developer

:D I'm glad you liked, and yes! That's the feeling that we wanted to achieve with the sword :D

Submitted(+1)

really nice game. I loved the moment I realized I could kill multiple enemies with the sword and after that I really tried to come up with creative ways to use all the different weapons. well done!

Developer(+1)

I guess you took a lot of damage getting creative with the sword :D

But that's what the sword is, high risk, high reward and lots of fun :D

Couldn't get my gamepad to work in the web version and I'm on linux. So I played with the trackpad on my laptop... anyway: Loved the laser gun! Nice concept to have to use different guns all the time. The purple guy was annoying though, wish he had a bit less health since he's so dodgy.

Developer

Yeah, I only tested my game on Windows. Did you press the Gamepad button in the pause menu?

I can imagine that playing with a trackpad is kinda hard :D

He is called enemy (type) 3 and yes he has less health, 20% less then the other two.

Submitted

I did not press the gamepad button... I didn't know there was a pause menu! :D
Now that I did though, it still didn't work. :/

20% less wasn't enough to notice a difference, imo. Maybe 50% even? ^^

Developer

Ok, then it's a linux problem. I could try to compile it for linux if you want to test if the controller is working there. Let me know.

50% would be possible, but I can't make the game too easy ;)

Submitted (1 edit)

Sure, I'd be happy to help. Send it to <REDACTED> if you can't submit here during the game jam.

Developer

I can't get the game compiled for Linux. The new input system, which I used to get the controller running, is throwing an error... Sorry

Submitted

That's a shame! I played it in Firefox btw, it may be the same on windows. Hope it's just me though, best of luck! ^^

Submitted(+1)

I LOVED it.

There is a real strategy things going on about chosing when to use what and it gets stressing.

Developer

I hope that it was a good type of stress XD

I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Submitted(+1)

Nice one.

We also made a top-down shooter, though with a bit of a different gimmick. Feel free to try it ;)

https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462587

Developer

Oh, I'm glad you like it :) I will give your game a try later :D

By the way, how far did you manage to survive? ^^

Submitted

Up to wave 8 on my first time, will have to give it another go tomorrow on a different pc, cause the web version can stutter a bit on my working laptop.

Developer

I see ^^ Yeah, for that, the windows version is a lot better. :) On the windows version the mouse cursor is also different ^^ it becomes a crosshair :)

Submitted(+1)

Great execution! More of this please. Hit 11 waves and wanted to keep on going, that's a good sign. Really nice enemy and weapons variety.

Developer

That's an awesome sign. Objective accomplished from developer perspective :D
The chances are high that we will keep working on this game ;) So you will get more flashy one shot action

Submitted(+1)

Amazing presentation & visuals, simple rules, and fun gameplay overall. Solid job on this project- keep it up!

Developer

Thank you :) How far were you able to reach? ^^

(+1)

I had a lot of fun with this game. It's simpel, but uses the Only rule very nicely.

Developer

Thank you for playing the game :) I'm glad you liked it :)

(+1)

Well done! I had a lot of fun playing it. Very well made and really enjoyable.

Developer

Thank you :D I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

Submitted(+1)

Hey this is fun! The different enemy types and weapon types made this game much deeper than I expected when I started play. Nice job!

Developer

I'm glad we could surprise you. We had the idea of only one weapon but we changed to this concept which turned out super fun to play.

Submitted(+1)

Well done! It's really hectic and fun, reminds me a bit of super smash TV. Just wish the difficulty would progress a little faster, I died on the 10th wave but it didn't feel that much more difficult then the 9th or 8th wave. The weapons are pretty fun and the enemies are varied enough.

Developer

Never played that game. That was before my time :D

Regarding the difficulty. That's a very hard topic to get right because of the wide range of gamers from casual to pro. In addition, getting it right during a game jam is even harder. We tried our best. It also depends a little on the rng for the enemies to spawn. If you get lots of green ones then the game will not be much more difficult. But getting shooter enemies will make it harder very fast :D

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

cool Game, i love top down shooters and yours looks and plays great. well done.

https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462032

Developer

thank you very much. I'm not a real fan of top down shooters, but I made one :D

I will play your game later.

Submitted(+1)

Great game! I liked the controls, awesome art style, cool weapons. The only thing that was a little hard for me is the sword. I don't know why, but it always felt like it was a bit short then it looks. But it really didn't take away from the game, so great job!

Developer

It's so funny. You liked the controls and one comment below it is too wonky :D You can't get it right for everybody.

The sword changed in size during development. Maybe the collider is not matching anymore. Will check that out later. Thanks for pointing out.

Submitted(+1)

Nice game! Really had to think what weapon to use. I had little luck getting health canisters so it was a bit harder. My main concern is the controls are a bit wonky

Developer

You have no luck getting health cannisters, because you  get the 3 at the beginning and that's it. So use them wisely ;)

I have heard it a lot that the controls doesn't feel right. I'm not sure if this is due to the light system I used which is a problem for not so good PCs, because on my gaming PC it is running super smooth. It could also be the Web version. You should get better performance downloading it.
