Had a lot of fun playing the game! Quite hard to know what to do next, but my best tactic that shown maximum effeciency is - sniper, sniper, sniper, grenade, sniper (the sniper is just very overpowered). The 2 last ones I upgrade the most at the begining and the others later on. Good game!

This is amazing! I had a lot of fun, would like to see  more of it if it happens. Do you plan on continuing development?

Developer

Yes

This game is really easy to pick up and learn, and the design of the first few levels help with this. I do feel like there needs to be some warning on what's coming next though, because I found myself getting stuck really easily when I didn't have the right abilities

Simple rules, hard choices. I like it.

Very easy to pick up and play, interesting use of the theme and would certainly be a nice game if you continued development.

Possibly add checkpoints as I found myself getting quite far  only to lose all progress because I happened to pick something that wouldn't help that level then dying.

If not checkpoints you could allow the player to see the level beforehand then decide based on a points system what abilities they need to take into the battle, allowing them to vary up their strategies during the game.

Regardless, I would like to see this taken further it has potential.

It'd be really cool if you could respec your abilities, it would make it so much easier to experiment with skills. I absolutely loved the game, and really got into building the 'perfect deck'. I tried a single sword, with rest teleport, but that couldn't work out on an early level, which is why I wish I could respec, so that I could build up my arsenal without worrying about dying on early levels with experimental decks. Also, the grenade felt really underpowered, to the point of being useless. The levels also felt pretty tight, and at one point, a single wrong upgrade screwed me over (why'd I upgrade the sniper, I needed sword!) All that criticism may not sound too friendly towards the game, but I seriously loved it. The sounds, the strategy, even the minimalist graphics, all played a part in making that awesome experience. Good job, I only wish that I found the end.

P.S. I just had an epiphany. What if you could see the next level whilst preparing? Add in some foresight to the game, and you've got some deep strategy to really sell the puzzle!

Developer

I'm already planning to add that feature, plus letting the player have more cards but thay still can only use five of them in each battle!

Thank you so much for the feedback!!

Fun game! Reminds me a bit at the XCOM games. Only issue I had is that you will only survive if you upgrade the right abilities which I feel is something you need to gamble. So often I had to restart completely because I accidentally chose the wrong ability for the next level.

Thank you for the feedback!

This was so much fun and smooth to play. The audio is great and the freedom of choice makes it great to play again and again. I was hoping to Sniper-Only my way to freedom, but alas, they overpowered me.

Pretty good submission!

I sunk more time into this than expected - I love the upgrade system combined with the one life mechanic! I found myself keeping track of previous runs that failed for some reason or another so I could get a bit further.

This is a great game! I had a lot of fun playing it :) I really love the concept, well done! I also love the art and audio, thumbs up! This is a really cool concept, and could be explored even more! But for a jam game this is amazing! (I just hope you take the concept further, perhaps in  a post-jam game :) )Well done, you earned a high rating from me! Keep up the amazing work! :D

Developer

This concept is going to go a lot further!

I'm planning to continue develop this game after the jam! :D

Fun game! breaks on full screen though.

Developer (1 edit)

How did it break? and did you play the web or exe version?

and what screen resolution do you have?

The main character gets so happy when you win! I LOVE IT! I really liked the struggle between upgrading or getting new cards! Well thought out! Would make for a really cool mobile game! I'd drain my battery a lot playing different scenarios! Great submission!

Would love if you could check mine out too! Or not, no pressure ;) https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/462672?after=20#post-876644

Sorry to ruin your battery but the web version actually works on smartphones. it's super bugy but it works!

Wow! That is such a cool game! I love the motivation I get every time I die to try again and choose my abilities differently. Amazing job!
