Games with Non-Violent Verbs!

Hey folks! Whilst they're still great fun, there often tends to be an abundance of games in jams with violent 'verbs'; shoot, kill, punch, destroy etc.

Does your game let the player do something a little different? If so, what are the verbs? Let's list them all in one place!

In our game, you have to cook Ramen noodles with one topping, and there's only one plug socket between all your appliances !

 https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463198

Your city is constantly hiking the price of electricity, but you've only got one plug socket between all your appliances. Hard times call for hard limits; people can only ask for one topping! Assemble the Ramen while using as little electricity as possible, lest your account goes into overdraft and you have to close shop. Hopefully some lighthearted cooking fun! Hope you enjoy it, if so please give it a rating and leave a comment! :)

My game's verbs include: "Listen," "explore," and "get really frustrated" :D

It's called Echolocation and it's a top-down puzzler that only uses sound.

Give it a try and rate it! ;]

no violence in our game - outside of you dying if you touch the obstacles of course...

it's a platformer with just one platform, but you can move it with your mouse, i guess the verbs would be "jumping", "hovering", "throwing", "deactivating", "sneaking", "dodging", etc. please try it :D

I am thinking if my game is violent or not. You have to sacrifice one or two... or twenty characters but the game features no attacks or aggression - it is all about cooperation, sometimes with sacrifices

https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/460800 I hope you enjoy it! Please let me know if you feel it is violent!

I will try to play your games Today/Tomorrow evening :3.

I'm guessing my verb would probably just be "make" and "remove" - it's a crafting game where you try to craft your way down to nothing rather than craft your way up to a lot of things. https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463986 I'll check yours out too!

This is going to be a great thread for me, thanks for making it! I love games that think out of the box enough to use some different verbs.

Mine's a digital card game about building (and not destroying our only Earth in the process):

I guess our verb would be "click." In our game you click to the beat, and you can play it in the browser: https://matt-and-rajiv.itch.io/bassline.

"row" I guess.

We have a semi-strict non-violent policy, so of course our entry fit this description too! I am so glad others try to avoid making shooters! We will play through this list now :)

Hello! Here is my entry for the jam:

SHARE YOUR WORD

Everyone has the same encrypted text but YOUR game contains a unique word.

Share Your Word with the others (in the comment section) to complete the hidden text.

If all words are found, I will release a build revealing the secret of the game.

I guess the verb that fits the most is share!

Well, my game is chess "inspired", so the only verbs are:

Move.

Capture.

And here it is (In the description in the itch.io page, please read what's after IMPORTANT. It's, um... important):

Although I use literally the words "destroy symbols" in the very rushed how to play, this game is about thinking before speaking, so what you are really doing is processing ideas to say them out loud, but couldn't figure out how to express that in a few words like the game proposes.

Every single game I make lacks violence as a player verb, so I'm happy to see this thread, and I'll be including games from it on my list of entries to try and play and rate for sure! c:

I do still sometimes include violence as a theme, and my entry for this jam is a survival game so there is a violent threat to escape from, but the player verb is basically just 'run'.

I guess our verbs would be "slow" and "catch" ?

You can crack the ground as crowd control and the objective is to catch the egg!

I do really enjoy exploring nonviolent concepts
