How does your game fit the theme?
As you progress in the puzzles, you lose control over your ability to directly affect the outcome. You can only set up an initial state and watch as a rules based algorithm transforms your input. Puzzles are solved using indirect control.

That was fun and also a bit challenging, and I liked the simplicity of your UI. Nicely done! :)

Thank you for submitting your game to the stream! =)

Quite interesting the proposal that you decided to approach. It turned out to be a very difficult game, I think it would be cool if there was a way to see the solutions (paying with ads, who knows? Just an idea for you!)

Very clever and classy game, as well very good execution, I'm not biggest puzzle fan but in fact the game keep me going, nice

Explain (and keep it on screen like all the other rules) when and how how the cell reproduces, because unless you know the original conway's game/algorithm (and unless you're a programmer or a game dev, i don't tink you'll really know it) you will NOT understand what you're doing, and even if you know it, it's still hard to remeber how...

Unless of course, i've i missed in, in that case just point me where is it, and i will crawl away in shame...

EDIT NOTE: i noticed that IS in fact explained (is the second point), but i still think you should explain the concept better... Now, if you excuse me, i'll have to crawl away in shame...

Btw it's 12:30 where i'm right now, and now i don't think i'm ready for this game... Still, love the concept tho...

Thanks for giving it a try! I definitely skimped on explaining Conway's Game of Life because of time constraints, and I felt other external places did a good enough job of it. You're right, including an explanation within the game would make it stronger and more approachable. I appreciate your feedback!

not a big fan of puzzle games but really interesting and original idea , great job!!!

This is great! Making a puzzle out of Conways Game of Life is a really cool idea and quite frankly I love everything about it!

You explained the rules really well.

The puzzles start of simple which helps the understanding of how the game works.

And the puzzles then get tougher. They expand in logical ways (more steps, bigger playing field). Also the puzzles aren't so complex that they get confusing and frustrating (at least not up until the point I played).

Regarding the presentation: The graphics are simple but very fitting, they convey the puzzle clearly and are very polished. Transisitions are cool but not distrating, the time between revealing the devlopment of the next step is fast but you still have a feeling of progression and see quickly how the field developed.

The sound effects again are simple but very well chosen. They support the gameplay without being distracting. Same goes for the music. It's funky and nice to listen to but doesn't hog attention.

I would love to tell you something that I think could be improved about this but quite frankly, I can't think of anything.

This is a 5/5 game in every category for me. And I will continue to play it.

One great thing would be if you could release it on phones because this is a perfect game for that.

Uhm... honestly if you would be willing to release this to Android but don't know how, hit me up. I'd be willing to help you with that.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I'm actually a mobile developer and android user myself! If I decide to release it on phones, I'll let you know so you can check it out.

Cool, looking forward to it :)

Great job!  I got way to engrossed in it, I admit to a bit of trial and error.    How many levels did you end up creating?   The flow, interaction and sound really made it feel very polished.  The gameplay was simple intuitive and well thought out.   This could be a great mobile puzzle game.

Developer

Thanks for playing! There are 25 levels in total.

in 48 hours having 25 levels with a game that polished is an astounding  accomplishment.   That's really amazing.

Quite challening! You did a good job overall with the scene transitions and the SFX, good job

I've always been fascinated with conway's game of life, so I was super intrigued when I saw this. It works very well as an interesting puzzle game! I just dont think my brain is intelligent enough to get past the first like 6 levels. Great entry, though!

Fun game that turns conway's game of life into a puzzle game, and is also a great way of actually learnihg how the algorithm works. If anyone ever wants to learn how to "play" conways game of life I'll send them this game! Fun stuff :)

Fun little puzzle game, with a nice progression curve. The yaaaaayyyyy got me more pumped than it perhaps should have. Really nice job :)

Interesting and fun idea. Featback feels good with animations and sounds. I like it :D

I love conway's game of life so this was a really fun game for me! the music just gets a little repetative but I saw it can be turned off. Great game and one I'll definately return to finish all the puzzles!

As a bit of math geek myself, I really wanted to try this one out the moment I found it. What a fun puzzler! The audio cues really fit the game and everything responded very well.

With touch controls, this would make a great puzzle app for iOS or Android.

Fun! I love playing with Convay, so I'm of course super biased, my only criticism are the "Yay" sound and the reset not letting you see right away how many generations you need (yes, silly, I know, but it came up a few times because my brain is apparently a sieve).

It gets pretty tricky! I could see this as a real mobile app, it's already polished enough. Finished all 25 levels. 23 and 24 are a bit of an in-joke in this order, aren't they? :D

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you could make it through all 25.

I felt ok covering up the number of generations because it was redundant with the timeline at the bottom, but I should have kept all the information on screen!

I was worried 24 would be too hard without 23, and so I deferred to Too Easy over Too Hard. I'd rather the player have a victory lap at the end to celebrate some exciting Game of Life patterns. Maybe I'll rebalance it after the jam with your comments in mind!

Oh, sorry, I probably wasn't too clear (English second language) - I don't think it was too easy - it just was fun to spot the solution being usable like that. You definitely made the right call with the difficulty overall, I think.

Developer

oh, I misunderstood! My fault. Thanks for the clarification

I love the audio effects. I just cant really see how it fits the jam's theme

Fun game and encourages experimentation! It got pretty hard very quickly and I could only complete the first 7 levels. Also I really like the UI!

Personally I don't like this style of game, so because of that I feel that I can't properly rate this. But the presentation and sounds were good, So good job!

Fantastic job! I've never even heard of this concept beforehand, but turning it into a puzzle game was ingenious. I feel like many people will be offput by the difficulty, (admittedly I was after a few levels), but I think anyone hardcore into puzzlers would absolutely love this. Everything about this game feels so slick and energetic even with the incredibly simplistic visuals. The backing track especially adds to this. Add more levels and maybe some mechanics which build beyond the actual real life concept and pop this up for sale somewhere. This needs more attention in the jam!

Submitted

Really cool idea, but the level difficulty gets hard real quick. The audio is nice except the YAY gets really repetive. Overall fun for a few seconds, then the novelty wears off. Exactly what I expect from a jam game!
