It's a cool idea, though the execution was a bit rough. Specifically, the timing to reclaim the sword is extremely unforgiving, especially considering that enemies can hold up their shields permanently. Also, it seems like some enemies can capture the sword at a distance, while others require to to bounce off the shield?
The enemies with the shield are intended to be beaten with your shield if you make them face the other direction. Most people seem to agree that this could've been telegraphed better, but I didn't think of it at the time. I think what made you have trouble with the sword is that enemies only capture the sword when you attack them while they're countering or have their shield. Likewise, the sword can only be reclaimed by you when it attacks you. Sorry if that wasn't clear, and yeah it is really rough. This is my first game jam game and I'm still learning.
For your first game, it was pretty well-done, and you have good gameplay ideas. :-) Regarding sword capture, it wasn't very clear to me when the second enemy (the first that can actually capture it) was "countering", so I was under the impression that the sword got captured automatically if it stayed near an enemy for too long.
Really liked the weapon mechanics you created, it felt really good to use! I thinking adding some music and sound fx would have made the game much better! overall I enjoyed playing it and using the sword.. until it tuned on me lol! great job!
The whole concept of your weapon having a mind of it's own is really great. I think though in a lot of situations, at least towards the beginning, I found the shield bash to be more reliable for attacking since I didn't have the risk of turning the sword against me! Great aesthetic as well.
Cool game, the visuals can give nostalgia of old school video games, which is a nice touch. At first I was little confused when the sword began attacking me, but then after I read the rules, I totally understood what was 'out of control' in this game. I think you should've clarified in the game itself. Other than that, great work!
I like the concept. The art looks great and it controls pretty well, aside from running being a bit fast. It feels like the sword does whatever it wants, and it wasn't clear to me what it was trying to do.
Really love the idea of the "switching sides" blade and the art also looks really good. Really enjoyed it!
Yeah I didn't have time for audio but there wasn't an option. I just figured it was more accurate than writing "used preexisting audio." I partially agree with the part about the theme, but once I was a day and a half in and I realized it I figured it was too late to go back lol. Thanks for playing!
Hey! It's a neat game, but in my opinion, the platforming is a bit too fast, you snap to the ground before you have time to react. Not sure if you intended it, but I almost exclusively used the shield, just because it was more reliable. The diversity in the enemies was well made, and I love the monochrome colour palette. Congrats on your game!
The sword feels great when you have control of it. I wasn't able to figure out how to take downt the shield guys though.
I love the artstyle! Nice and fast platformer controls, although the jump is a bit too quick, but it makes it more challenging which is a bonus for certain things. I like the sword mechanic. Overall a great and fun game! Good luck!
