How does your game fit the theme?
It "joins together" the Visual Novel template with traditionally Survival Horror elements. Like making the ideal dish between ingredients that complement each other seamlessly.

VNs and horror are two of my favorite things as far as games go, so nice choice.
I did the sensible thing and hid the first time around before dying on my second run and then realizing I was dreaming on the third run :D
I don't know what engine you used, but what I've seen of the game looks to be within the scope of a traditional visual novel. If you plan on making more games like this, have a look at ren'py. It's an engine specifically made for visual novels that already offers a great framework for choices, saving, loading, handling sprites, text history etc. - anything a VN needs, really.
This jam we made a VN and tactical RPG hybrid which meant I had to use Unity over ren'py and it only served to remind me of just *how* much quality of life it offers when creating VNs.
Anyway, nice game!
Thank youuuu!
I'm actually learning ren'py just as you commented that :)
Awesome! Have fun with it :)
I live alone and this scared the shit out of me!
Especially when I have a very high quality audio environment, made this a really immersive experience for me. You have my high rating ^^
I scared the shit out of MYSELF just as much hahaha!
Appreciate the high rating!
I really like this atmosphere!
It's an amazing mysterious short story! I passed several times in one breath.
I am not sure if it quite fits the theme but it was an amazing super polished experience non the less! Well done!
"Based on a real story" ... after getting all the three endings, I think I can guess which it was. Overall, what an incredible game! The visual story telling felt great and making decisions felt like they all had an impact. The sound effects really helped to sell the experience too! Well put together and a ton of fun to play!
If you get a chance, check out my game!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it.
Great presentation! The sound effects and pacing built the atmosphere really well.
Really liked this game. Always love to see a good visual novel in a game jam. The sound effects and art were really good for 48 hours. Well done on this.
Thank you!!!
Man this was really good! The art, the sound effects and the background music are all awesome and contribute a lot to create a very heavy and immersive atmosphere. The first noise we heard about the intruder was very good in breaking the peace and actually scared me. But I don't think it fits the theme really well.
Thank you!
Fitting the theme is something I lowkey failed at, not gonna lie. It was envisioned as a genre mix of classic survival horror and visual novel, but it came out as more visual novel than anything else. A classic case of over-scoping and running out of time.
As someone who doesn't like Visual Novels, I liked this Visual Novel!
Really well written and creates an atmosphere of fear early.
When I go to options then click exit I get the following error
beyond that - where are we living that 2-5am is pitch black? cannot relate, californians represent :P
i think it'd be super scary if upon reading 'footsteps emerge' etc we hear footsteps
the line "theres barely enough height to survive the jump / theres barely enough height to injure something" doesnt make sense because if there's barely a chance you'll survive then you'll definitely injure something
other than that i felt like it was generally very well written and as the game progressed i found it harder and harder to make eye contact w my screen
narrative is also really interesting to see because i feel like we sometimes think about this exact scenario and play out what we'd do in our heads, so it's cool to actually play it out in front of me
so overall, very nice (and scary) job *shivers*
That's a really interesting bug you got there. What platform did you play the game on? I gotta look into that.
I'm glad you liked it though, this game is based on several true story cases of home invasion & the fact that it manages to carry that terror across is a big deal to me hahaha
based on true stories? that makes it even more scarier :P
and Mac Catalina!
Is there just glass everywhere in the house?
The intruder just freaking loves spreading shards of glass everywhere he walks.
That or I lacked an extra sound effect, one of the two.
I'll go with the first one. Gotta respect the hustle to terrify the shit out of your victims.
I decided to jump out the window the first time through lol
Glad to see you liked it hahaha!
