Fun game! I enjoyed the tactile thinking of when to swap characters, taking into account ranges and such. I did notice some characters like the skeleton archer did way less damage then said. Overall I really liked it! I hope you add music at some point as that would really complete the experience!
Ok that was actually really cool! I finished it in 125 turns. Very unique and a very real twist on the jam theme. I also I see you did EVERYTHING your self including the sounds, super impressive. This honestly with a little more polish and content could turn into probably a good roguelite or something.
One big issue I had though was just learning the game. I read your description before hand, but when actually playing the first battle I was so confused. I think at one point I killed the princess as the goblin and I think it gave me a game over (I might be mistaken on that though) but from that I was so confused, and tried for another 3 - 5 minutes trying to figure out how to win against the goblin or at least proceed. Maybe I'm just tired, but I think an in game tutorial or a really obvious enemy (like one of those orges that have a ton of hp) may have helped cement the idea of what to do. I almost quit at that point and then checked the comments here... but no one else seemed to have that issue so it could have just all been me.
But once I figured that out it was great and I ended up beating it! Again the above may have just been me being dumb, but other than that I thought the game was really great and cleverly thought out (not to easy or hard). This is a great entry into the jam! Great work on this!!
Thanks for the detailed feedback!
And yeah, the tutorial got left behind when I had to fix some game-breaking bugs just before the deadline, and I only had time to so little things (e.g. the tooltips) and hope people would pick up on what you were supposed to do. The point about having a more obviously unbeatable enemy is a great idea; that way it's extremely obvious there's no way you can just muscle through.
If the game did make you lose when you killed the princess as the goblin, that would have been a real bad bug, since that will definitely mess with your understanding of the game. I'm glad you stuck it out so you could experience the intended gameplay. Thanks for playing!
Very novel concept. It’s refreshing to see something not that challenging, but some people might want that. That’s probably the main part that needs to be thought out.
I got to the end in 216 turns (most of that brute forcing a door as a goblin..) Fun distraction, I like the mechanic. Good job
I last-minute added a functionality where some enemies respawn (like the fire imp in the top-left corner) so you'd never have to brute force a door or get stuck with enemies you can't defeat, but I forgot to actually signpost it in any way. Breaking a door down with a goblin is very persistent of you!
This is really cool! Loved the pixel art and really fun trying to hop out and maximize life -very cool concept and awesome use of the theme! Awesome work! :D
Great gameplay, it's very addicting! The map and units were really well designed. There is so much strategy involved. The units art are well made too. Good job!
Cool game! Nice art, the mechanic is quite interesting, I've managed to kill myself multiple times accidently with it. Well done!
Could you rate my game? I would really appreciate it, thanks!
Great gameplay! The map and units were really well designed. There is so much strategy involved. Retreat, get the best unit for the fight, go kill stuff. The units look nice too.
All the units with meaningfully different abilities and weaknesses. I still don't know the best way to kill a slime and maybe that's the key to finding the prince sooner.
This was really fun. It took me a while to get to the prince before he died, but it was worth it.
Very cool to see you got into the strats for this with the retreating and getting better units! Thanks for playing!
(P.S. Slimes are weak against ogres.)
Nice game :)
Good game all around! Sad that you can't swap with the door though xD
Haha, yeah. You could swap with the door originally, before I thought better of it!
This was a really fun (and really hard) game! It took me a minute to work exactly what I was supposed to be doing but once I worked it out I was having a really fun time trying to make progress. The restarting being nice and quick made it easy to keep retrying which I definitely did. I was SO proud of myself for getting past the 2 fire demons and the healer and that's a feeling I know every developer wants the players of their games to have that feeling so congratulations! It really combined turn based combat with a puzzle game; love it!
Glad you enjoyed it and got that feeling! Thanks for playing.
Very interesting mechanic. I like how it feels like a puzzle and you have to balance at all times. But it was really hard, had a hard time getting past the goblin :)
Unusual game, for sure ! I almost got at the end but lost all my crystals and died near it.. I really enjoyed playing it, and liked the design :)
I just think that it could be better with some music, but congratulations for creating this game!
Yeah, I left the music for last, and instead got into a scramble trying to fix a bunch of bugs that suddenly cropped up. Glad you enjoyed it though!
I really enjoy this game. Something about taking control of enemy creatures always feels fun to me.
