Thank you to all that rated ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

I did much better than I expected!!

Idk how I'll beat that next year

Submitted(+1)

Couldn't find a way to beat my game (didn't see a flag as mentioned in the comments) but the execution and concept were still fun!

Submitted(+1)

A really fun idea and I enjoyed figuring out all of the different features in the "OS". I was confused though, I didn't see a way to beat the game you created. I saw you mention a goal flag in one of the other comments but couldn't find it anywhere. Either way, a very ambitious and interesting game idea.

Developer

It was the little red flag in the editor, again I probs should have explained what certain elements did, my bad >~<

Submitted(+1)

Really interesting concept and great take on the theme :) Congrats on the submission!
What I didn't seem to understand was how to get the people to finish rating the game/level after submission. One of the windows said that I had to clear my game to get it rated, but it seems like getting the coin with the player wasn't enough?

Developer(+1)

Did you add a goal flag? You need to do that when you're making the level (I probs should have explained that more my bad)

Submitted(+1)

Pretty cool execution on the project and cool intro. There's only one problem: I've just spent a weekend making a game and I really don't feel like making another one now :P

Still, neat little program!

There is so much content here - absolutely fantastic! Spent a lotta time screwing around with things, those R/G/B sliders had me hahah. Great stuff!

Developer

I was gonna do actual images for backgrounds that you could cycle through but I was running low on time so I just did RGB, I'm glad you enjoyed them ๐Ÿ˜Š

Submitted(+1)

I'm glad that someone say the comedic opportunity and took it. I hope that Mark sees this just to have a laugh.

It's very simple and fun to make things, but I do hate the collider of the character since I would inconsistently have hard times fitting through one block holes and would hit a spike when it looked like I didn't.

Developer

Yea, the entire first day was just making the windows work. So the actual game didn't get as much time as it probably deserved

Submitted(+1)

Dude, you basically made an entire Windows OS system (or just a really good illusion of one) within around 48hrs while still making a fully functional Sandbox game. Yeah, you could probably add moving platforms and enemies and all that stuff, but the finished product still had a lot of cool things like bricks and wood, coins that could only be picked up after all the other ones were, or having two different toggleable blocks and switches.

My first day spent on this Jam was spent entirely around racking my head around an overly ambitious story game that I ultimately gave up for something simpler. I bet dealing with those windows was frustrating (almost ironic with the Windows OS thing) but you at least didn't have to deal with that.

I don't know how much Pygame offers, but I'm still impressed with what you have made, honestly

Developer

Thank you  ๐Ÿ˜Š

The windows are just different surfaces (that's just what pygame calls them idk what else they might be called) and there's a list of them, the last on being the "focused" one. Whenever you click a window or open it ot puts it to the back of the list.

It defo isn't optimised at all cuz opening 3 windows starts to tank fps but it's just a jam game, but that fps tank stopped me from making a web build because pygame web builds run at like, 50%-20% of the normal game speed so the game already slowing down normally would suck for a web build.

But I'm rambling lol, thanks for the kind words

Submitted(+1)

I've never dealt with open windows or "surfaces" before, but that sounds interesting and weirdly complicated. Definitely the right call to not upload a browser version, although it would be really funny to have a your computer running a browser window that is running a mini computer that is running a mini browser window. Just a thought :)

My team actually joked about doing something like this for the "role reversal" lol. Very meta but also pretty fun. I do wish the tutorial came in text form instead of voice though so I could skim through at my own pace because it's pretty long winded (the humor helped at least). Otherwise though this one was real good I like that I could change the move speed and desktop background and stuff; lots of customization

Developer

The original idea was that you were making a game specifically for me, so I thought literally having me talk would be fitting, even after the idea changed I still wanted to keep the audio tutorial cuz I thought it would be funny :P

But I didn't want to make the tutorial too overbearing so I let the player do whatever they wanted while the tutorial was playing, and I included text tutorials in case anyone missed something I said or had mo audio

Submitted(+1)

Oh I didn't even notice the text tutorial oops

I loved this. Such a funny and well-executed idea. It has a lot of charm, gg.

I'm tearing up right now, people actually think I'm funny ๐Ÿฅฒ (Thankssss ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’–)

Submitted(+1)

This is incredible. The amount of features and functionality is downright impressive. Very creative, cool idea. 10/10

Developer

ngl when I uploaded I felt like people would think the opposite, like it didn't have enough features lol, I'm glad you liked it :3

I can't believe this was made in 48hours, this an absolute masterpiece, Very good

Developer

I can't believe I made it in 48hours either, I actually impressed myself!

I can't believe you didn't do rate for rate ! I got banned from the discord server so i can't do that much

Hi! I want to ask you, if you could send me a linux or html version of your game, so that I can play it.

Developer

the game is made for pygame so while I could do a web build it would run really slow (at least from my experience)

Submitted(+1)

Okay! I will see if I get it to run.
Thanks!

This is legit creative! It actually feels like a real Windows OS but with Bill Gates talking to you in the background. HAHAHA
