Clever mechanic and some really sweet presentation :)
I definitely initially suffered from the balance issues - first battle was unwinnable. I think a quick fix would be to add a ‘flee’ so you can safely pick your battles without restarting :)
Still- had a lot of fun when I’d mapped out a bit of a route :D
Thank you so much for checking out the game and for the feedback! Glad you liked it :)
Interesting game! Quite liked it although it wasn't really clear which enemy I should fight so I got stuck in an eternal battle against an enemy with a katana who would always heal back all the damage I did and vice versa. Feels like the fights drag on a bit but the mechanic itself is very interesting. Well done!
Thank you so much for playing the game :)
I totally agree, the balance definitely needs some improvement and player goals should be more clear.
Loved the main character and the mechanics are pretty fun, although i felt the first encounter agains the snail was a bit too long but still good job!
Thank you for checking out the game and for the feedback! :)
This is a really cool game! I liked the combat mechanics a lot! The randomness of the dice isn't frustrating at all, and the overall gameplay was great. This was a super unique idea and it was executed very well! Great job!
Thank you very much for playing the game! Glad you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it :)
Really good mechanic and design!Healing is a bit too much and it may be not well balanced but well I enjoyed it
Thank you so much for playing the game! Glad you enjoyed it despite it's randomness and lack of balance :)
This game got me properly hooked. I like the feel of retro visuals on the screen. It created solid atmosphere for my rerolls.
I wish there was any control over weapons used after the dice roll so i could feel using at least some strategy. When i picked a wrong opponent, it was just painful to see how i am slowly loosing.
Thank you for checking out the game! :)
I agree that the game needs to give the player more control and in the current state it's just too random. I'll think about it, thank you for the feedback!
Nice art and good idea of battle system. But healing is too overpowered)
Thank you for playing the game and for the feedback :)
I as some others here couldn't beat the swordsman. Could be a good idea to add a "chicken out during the fight" option if you plan to build on top of this. I liked the idea and art though!
Thank you so much for checking out the game!
I completely agree, the "Run away" button would be a really good addition. Thank you for pointing that out :)
Cute game art style and a good amount of mechanics. Quite like the idea of the RNG mechanic with the dice and defence. You have listed you made your own sounds but I didn't hear any and checked my sound settings so not sure if its a bug with the browser version or maybe sounds are upon death.
Thank you for playing the game! :)
Unfortunately there is no sound at all, but when you submit the game there are only two options: either "We created the vast majority of the music during the game jam" or "We used pre-existing audio". Neither of those are fitting my case, which is "No audio at all", so I just left it at the first option. But now that I look at it, the second option is probably more correct, even though it's just silence. Sorry for the confusion.
I defeated the two animals who look weaker but did not manage to defeat the humanoid swordman because it is healing 1-6 each turn which makes me difficult to overpower them with 2/6 damage (with the knife). I then restarted the game to see other enemies as well, I think the difference between 1 die and 2 dice (used by the weapon) is quite huge. I understand the time issue so I am not really complaining about the balancing, haha.
I appreciate your design decision to not make the damage dealt directly related to the dice faces, which makes it much more balanced. I think a temporary shield instead of healing may work.
You can also generate weapons with different random bonuses and trigger conditions to enhance replayability.
The rng has a great influence on the game, making the player has lesser control (or nearly no) over the strategy. Maybe generating an "atypical" die (e.g. die with 3 faces of 1 and 3 faces of 6) would reinforce the strategy elements.
I saw your comment below, I agree that a typical measurement of a successful game jam project is to finish it, but I also believe one of the intentions of these jams is to ideate a good game idea. Don't be ashamed that you didn't finish all parts of the game - you now have a good mechanism thus you can always continue to work on it yourself and release a better version later.
Great art btw. Please try our game :)
Thank you for playing my tiny game and for such thoughtful feedback! I really appreciate it and it means a lot :)
Fun game that felt really polished. It was a bit confusing at first - I think a tutorial would have helped a lot. Nice work :)
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Looks good. No music or sound.
The battle system looks really cool, but for something with this many menus and effects some form of onboarding would be helpful.
Thank you for playing my game, glad you enjoyed it :)
And thank you so much for the feedback, I appreciate it. There are definitely a lot of things to improve.
Nice game
Thank you so much! :)
Very nice take on the theme and beautiful art. Sound need it will boost the feeling a lot. Good Job.
Thank you for playing my game! I agree, definitely would be nice to have some sound effects and probably music.
The concept is so good! ;)
It's a shame about the unbalanced fights...
Thank you so much for playing the game! :)
This is a second GMTK GameJam in a row where I came up with an idea that requires quite a lot of balancing and I just had almost no time for it. Next gamejam I'll probably make a simple linear adventure or a platformer :D
