Those monsters were genuinely terrifying! The sound design is exceptional, and once you get the hang of the controls it all works pretty well.
The ideas here all seem quite good, it just seems unfinished. The various runes that say the same thing, and the one that does say something else but it bleeding off the screen all point to potential that just didn't make it in before the deadline.
Congrats on submitting though! That's the hardest part and keep up the good work so you can do even better next time! :D
I liked the atmosphere in your game, the soundscape greatly helped the immersion. The pressure of the dimming light works well with the swift character movement, creating a fast pace, as you are looking for more torches to sustain the light.
It seems some runes display text of needed scale, while others have bigger scale, clearly not displaying all the symbols that were in there.
Nice work! The sound effects and the darkness creeping in really made for a good atmosphere, and even for a 2D game like this I felt pretty spooked at times when the monsters came out to get me.
I like the idea of exploring the cave and looking at the runes, although I wasn’t totally sure if I was meant to simply activate all the runes, or use them somehow? But you mentioned there is no end game currently, so I’m guessing that was just something you didn’t have time for.
It might have been nice to have a little more feedback when attacking enemies - the fireball seemed effective, but I wasn’t sure if the melee attack was actually working, or if that was just meant for lighting fires? Still, it was fun to try and stave off stress until eventually having to fight off the monsters before resetting to a checkpoint.
Congrats on the entry!
Nice job! I enjoyed the light mechanics and the creepy shadow monsters. :)
Hi Lost_Pages,
Congrats on your entry, I really liked the idea you went for! The atmosphere was super good from the beginning and it was a nice balance of trying to find torches, fighting enemies and keeping the light strong enough to see stuff!
Really fun overall, enjoyed it! :)
Really like the art style! I struggled to figure out what I was trying to do for a bit as I kept wasting all my fire balls.
Nicely done! Were we supposed to translate that last message on the wall? I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do lol. The enemies were pretty spooky and you did a good job with the lighting and the art.
Cool game :)
I didn't really understand at first what the controls did, so I kinda wasted all my torches haha. Other than that, I liked the atmosphere. Wasn't really sure what the smiley faces did though.
I am happy you liked, they are a stress level if you stay too long in the dark the character passes out we got out of time and things got kinda unfinished
