Game Description
A top-down game, in which you need to find and collect enough keys, paths to which are visible only on the map. The indestructible enemies try to prevent you from doing so.

How does your game tie into the theme?
People have known how to calm the spirits and live peacefully with them, but now it's the forgotten knowledge, which you need to find in the game.

The use of theme was interesting. I liked how you can't see the spirits on the map but can't see the path when you're not using the map. It adds some difficulty. But it was still easy enough that it wasn't much fun. If the number or speed of the enemies changed as you collected keys the gameplay could have been more interesting. Its cool that you allow the player to choose how many hit points they have and keys they need to collect in the options. The art was nice, but the size of the screen was very small (I zoomed the page in though). And the music got repetitive.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback!

The enemy number and speed would be good difficulty options to include alongside the health and the number of keys to collect, so players could choose what suits them better.

I agree with you about the web build screen size and music.

Great incorporation of two wildcards and on your first Wild Jam too! Switching between shooting and looking at the map makes the game a lot more interesting.

Hope you don't mind some criticism: the resolution was too small for my liking, I had to zoom in on the browser to clearly read some of the text. The music is pretty repetitive maybe something more low key would suit the game better.

However the SFX were really good and so were the sprites.

Developer

Thank you, I’m glad you liked the use of wildcards and the game’s sprites and sounds!

Feedback is welcomed, it gives me a lot of good ideas about what to improve after the jam's voting time ends.
The Windows version has x2 scale, so I assume you’ve played the browser one. I agree with you on that one, it did turn out too small. The music is the game’s weakest point for sure, hopefully with practice I’ll be able to create something more pleasing to the ears.

This is a cool game, with a cool mechanic.

Well done!

Very cool game! I really liked the mechanics and think they have a lot of potential! Maybe you could add some variety in the future.

But I definitely felt the pressure of the ghosts and was very excited the whole time lol. Nice use of the wildcards.

Well done!

Developer

Thanks, I’m glad you liked the mechanics!

If I revisit the game after the jam, I’d definitely like to add more variety, as well as other quality of life features people in here suggested.

These was a nice interpretation of the theme! The mechanics worked pretty well together and it was well balanced. I had fun to follow the paths and holding back those spirits. The graphics were charming as well and I was able to finish the game without any problems. The only thing which could get some love is the music, which got a bit annoying after some time. Good Job on this!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you found most of game aspects well done and the game as a whole well balanced.
I haven’t composed music before this jam, so my limited experience shows, but I’m glad I’ve tried and learned something new.

Interesting concept! Loved the idea of extra layer only visible with the map which also makes you unable to fight off the enemies. As others have said, it's a great use of wildcards. I wished there was some variety as each key had the same gameplay loop, only different path you take. Bonus points for accessibility as you allowed tweaking game rules (which allowed me to complete the game without shooting :D).

Developer

Thank you! I agree with that, initially I wanted to have more variety, but I had to maintain a smaller scope to complete the development in time. I’m happy the options allowed you to complete the game your own way, with no shooting.

Nice work! The presentation was very consistent and gave the game a certain atmosphere and feel that I really like. The gameplay mechanic was also really interesting, and a great use of the wildcards for this jam. The s

I did feel like the game was a little repetitive after a few keys, although the random paths made it a bit more interesting. Perhaps making the enemies faster or adding some obstacles onto the map would have made it feel just a bit more varied.

Once I found all the keys, I heard a different sound but I didn’t quite understand that I was “done” so I kept collecting more - maybe highlighting the end zone on the map would have helped me realize that as well.

Nice job overall, I really like the vibe of this game!

Developer

Thank you, I’m glad you liked the vibe of the game!

A valid point. Initially I thought of making the paths completely randomly generated and had ideas for more enemies, but I had to develop without these features to keep the scope of the project doable in the given time frame.

The winning condition is described in “how to play” section of the main menu, however I agree that it would be nicer if it was better communicated during the gameplay.
I’ve made it possible to collect more keys than needed in case people would want to play for a high score (it’s displayed on the screen, that is shown, once you’
ve completed the game).

Wow it's amazing to think you have done all the assets and coding yourself :o you're a killer!
But unfortunately I don't have a QWERTY keyboard so I couldn't move around proberly and didn't have patience to rebind my own keyboard xD Would have been nice to have a way to rebind in game :D Using WASD is always a bit risky, tough we are a minority not having QWERTY keyboards.
Still, I got the idea of the game and it was quite nice :3

Thank you! I’ve planned all the components of the game from the start to make the scope manageable and fortunately it work out rather well.

The game is playable with the arrow keys too, they work for movement, although it’s not as comfortable to use spacebar with such configuration. I’ll take your advice about the keyboard into account next time, re
boundable keys are a good idea in general.

very cool game, the best combination of Navigator and UnderPressure wildcards I've seen so far. Having to constantly switch between the 2 modes, one for progressing and one for  defending yourself works very well.

Developer

Thank you!
This mechanic was the first thing I’ve came up with while deciding what to make, I’m glad you found its execution working well.

Super unique mechanic! I liked fighting of the ghosts while trying to walk along the paths. Was able to get to the end. Great entry! :)

Pretty neat mechanics. Loved the intro.

I really liked the mechanics! Full points for originality. The music got a little bit repetitive after a while, especially being kind of hard sounding and played everywhere but that's how jams go.

I do have to say I wandered around aimlessly for a bit before reading the description. Somehow the main game mechanic just didn't click for me at first. A UI helper tooltip that just shows the player that the map is an option would probably be a nice addition.

Still, this was a fun game and I appreciate the procedural aspects. Great job!

Thank you, your review is helpful!

Game jams are a good time to try new things for the first time, creating music was such a thing for me. I felt it was one of the weaker aspects of the game.

I agree, a tooltip or a help screen at the start would make it easier and faster for the new players to understand the mechanics.
