Really cool idea for the theme. It was challenging and platformers in general are challenging for me, so not being able to see all the time made me hit a wall pretty quickly. Might be interesting to add a mode where you can partially see as an "easy" mode

Fun little game! I appreciated how you incorporated the theme into the mechanics. It was also good to see a tutorial level, key-rebinding, and some accessibility options. I think the levels scaled in difficulty reasonably well, and I found the ghost level a fun way to subvert some of my expectations.

I preferred the shorter levels that reduced the punishment for failure. I think impatient players would appreciate a checkpoint in the last level, or splitting it into two. Some of the default control choices went against conventions (C for run), so it was good to offer re-binding. Though the rebinding captures mouse motion as an input, which is probably not intended.

A very solid first jam submission. I look forward to your next game!

A solid submission! Super fun, would definitely wish-list on Steam if this were the Demo.

Pros:

  • Solid movement in game, felt fluid -  not too rigid.
  • With what you see with the camera, the game definitely lends to more storyline in the future. Storyline for me personally is a huge Boon. I am excited!
  • Difficulty was great (for me). Definitely reminded me more of older games where pixel placement matters.

Critiques:

  • Music at intro is dramatically different level than the sounds in the game, I had adjusted audio based on intro music for stream, but had to reduce by about half again when stream mentioned how loud it still was. some balancing would definitely improve this.
    • Alternatively adding secondary SFX volume adjustment
  • Since you have the ability of fullscreen in the game, having a way to bind pause to a key other than [ESC] would be handy, as in browsers it kicks you out of fullscreen first before allowing you to pause (on the second keypress)
  • Once I got to the room with the saws, I started relying LESS on the camera, and MORE on the position of the fog. I realized right away that the fog reset when I died and moved only when I moved. I was able to use this to quickly pass through the level once I knew where the objects were in relation to the fog. On the title screen, the fog is moving on it's own, and having it like that in the game would prevent players from being able to cheese the fog.

Such a neat take on the concept of light and dark, with different camera angles.  I love the aesthetic too.  Great game

i ain't gonna spoil it, but the 3rd place was cool and unsettling

The snap to see the dark parts of the level was pretty cool.
