cool game, but honestly, I feel it would have been better if the duck wildcard had not been used. the duck shaped vehicle and sounds... kind of broke the immersion and tone of the game which was good imho, especially because of the music.

Loved the variety of enemy types but I had the impression that the player needs pre existing experience with that type of games. It was not clear to me until after the first runthrough which enemy type does what. Too many variables hit you right from the beginning.

Oh and a retry button would be a nice quick win. I had to redo the keybinds on every start....

It's a very impressive first submission, especially because it's solo. I really like that you added an options menu at the beginning for keybindings and sound settings. The style is very unique and interesting, but also a bit all over the place. The sound effects, the submarine and the small enemies are very cartoony and cheerful, while the background and the boss are very creepy. I had a pretty easy time just rushing through the bottom of the level though.

First game jam game I've played that has rebindable controls. Very nice!

Good game! I like having the option to speed up the ship, it is more risky but feels rewarding. Kicking the ice eel's ass felt satisfying. I really appreciated the mechanic of getting an ammo back if my shot hits. Good music, good art.

Finished it!

Straightforward and intuitive game! The game length was just right. I knew things were about to get serious when the screen started shaking. The boss fight was pretty epic; the scale of the boss was a stark contrast to the small minions leading up to it!

5* for accessibility, for allowing keybinds having auditory feedback on music and sfx settings, and for provision of multiple game modes to cater to different tastes and preferences!

I was a chicken (even though I was a duck), and stayed at the top lane killing what I can from a safe angle. One way to circumvent this might be to make enemies that move not just horizontally, but diagonally to make dodging more active!

Overall, solid submission!

I looove the art style, especially the boss!

The game was easy to understand and the length of the gameplay was just right. I enjoyed seeing the variety of enemies and their attacks.

The music is fitting and the quacks were super cute. Though I think I got a mini heart attack every time I got hit because the impact sound was a bit jarring haha. But not really an issue since you have volume sliders (yay!).

I was able to win with the normal bullets and had a lot of fun in that mode. But when I tried the piercing ones it was a bit more challenging since I couldn't really tell whether I hit the enemies or missed them as there are no visual cues for when you land hits. The enemies randomly have more health so having that cue would really improve the experience. But I understand that with the time constraint you probably had to prioritize other things.

Overall a well-scoped, solid game. Great work!

This was very solid. The accessibility menu was a nice touch. I liked the music and the duck sound quite a bit. Good Job!

Nice simple straight forward submission.

Liked the graphics and really liked the music. The duck quacking sound got a little old through.

The gameplay was  good and controls felt pretty solid. Also liked the varied enemies and the boss battle, maybe a little too easy though.

Very nice! I think bio-luminescence is a cool way to tie into the theme. I thought the backgrounds looked nice, especially with the parallax effect. And the ice eel was cool looking as well.

It would have been cool to see some different attack patterns from the boss, or maybe a second phase? But I did enjoy the enemy variety through the rest of the game. Very solid for your first entry, kudos!

Well scoped game. I liked the clarity on the starting screen for all the options, and different play modes is a nice way to build replay ability.  I liked the quacking when you shot a bullet. The gameplay wasn't particular engaging for me though.

The presentation was on point. Great accessibility options.

Nice work! Not only was there a game with a challenge and a final boss, but you also have key-rebinding, different game modes, and instructions in-game. There's actual polish here, which I'd take as an indicator of good scoping and time management for a jam.

I'd echo the feedback that the game lacks visual clarity. I'd also like to see the theme play a bigger role in the game mechanics. As it was, I didn't see a point in trying to engage any enemies, so I just stayed at the top of the screen until I got to the boss.

Congrats on your first submission. I look forward to seeing what you make next time!

Developer

The only point for killing enemies is bragging rights with a high score and I can understand not everyone being motivated by that alone.

I think that many people are probably looking for a more literal use of the theme. I specifically did not want to use a black/white or light on/off approach to reach the theme and tried to think outside the box / do something creative with it.

Thanks for playing and the feedback!

Hey I really loved the art and idea for this game! I think that navigating around the enemies is maybe too easy though and that the boss is too bullet spongy. But I really enjoyed playing this!

I love the music and art for this game! The sfx is good too! I thought the incoming bullets were collectibles and ran into them at first lol. The bullets slowing down when i sped up was a nice touch. Took me a few tries to beat it cause I didn’t realize the boss was shooting anything at me at first I thought it was bg effects oops hehe. Overall a fun game! Great work!

I definitely could have done a better job at making sure people knew what was dangerous vs safe. I thik the color pallet made that and issue for a lot of people. Thank you for playing and the feedback!

Fun game! Loved the duck submarine and quacks, boss was pretty fun too. Good work!

Don't know why but I love bioluminescent fishes so this game is for me lol. Nice usage of duck, I love the fact that we can play as pacifist ! At start it's not clear that the rounded mineish things deals damage but when you hit 0 health without having a fish touching you... you understand haha. Really nice entry tho, loved to play :)

Developer

Yay another fan of pretty light up fishes! I was trying to get sound working on the boom shrimp to help convey the damage… but had to make just the animation. Fixing this is definitely on my todo list so hopefully I will be ablke to get a better understanding of sound in godot soon! Thanks for playing and leaving feedback!

Really liked the colorful scrolling background sprite! It was also nice to be able to adjust keybindings at the beginning. I would've preferred a little bit more feedback when you hit/kill enemies, but alas, there's only so much time in a weeklong jam. :) Great work and congrats!

Developer

Thanks for playing and the feedback! More on hit/hit/death feedback is for sure needed as for quite a bit of things the current level is zero. The player damage flash and sound effect was added super close to the deadline and almost did not make it. And of course like everyone else I had to cut 95% of the plans for time!

Submitted

Really nice! I especially liked the music and art. Sometimes the hitboxes of the bullets and enemies felt a bit clunky, but overall it was fun and challenging.
