The graphics in this are amazing! I also loved your music picks. I do need to say that sometimes it took a while to load the BGM and it even stopped at an akward time for about two seconds and then continued. I enjoyed the story both in the main game and the gae within a game.
The battle system was pretty cool, but if you were going for morale defeat, the enemy hung around way too long after hitting zero. Sometimes I had to pick skills for another round even though the enemy was already at 0 morale. That kinda dragged it down for me.
Not sure if this was a one-off, but during one of the cutscenes which prompted the Save window to come up, the screen stopped responding aftwerwards, though audio and controls seemed to keep going in the background.
Fortunately, F5 to restart the game client worked, and my save was intact.
Otherwise, very good experience overall. (saving full thoughts for after ratings period)
This is weird since the entire game is dense with debug savepoints (some save points I didn't get to disable outside of playtest). With that, I can't intuitively tell which cutscene you may have had that issue.
I think it may have been the first "forced" save point where you go to the safehouse of sorts.
If you haven't heard other reports along these lines, I wouldn't invest too much time investigating since this is RM after all and it could have been a fluke nw.js crash or whatever.
This is an extremely impressive entry. First off in terms of graphics, I'm struggling to think of anything I've ever played in a jam that matches its graphical excellence, cohesion, and completion. The expressiveness of the facesets was one thing, but the map sprites added even more, and you've got a real talent for expressing a lot with their motions. I could feel Therese's exhaustion as she sighed on her break, and Lucius' ridiculous dance just makes me want to hang out with him and be his friend. Attack animations, tilesets, battlebacks, battlers, all came together in a phenomenal package.
The other aspects off the game were impressive in their own right. Battles featured some unique mechanics that were interesting to explore. The story had depth, and really tread some dangerous ground with the topics, but I found it well done, despite some of my reservations with how the narrative might flow. Music was chosen well.
This entry is definitely a contender for overall!
This is a masterpiece! The sprites are AMAZING! The story may be a bit long by jam standards but it tells a complete tale and really pulled me in. The battles are thoroughly customized and have a fair bit of strategy without overstaying their welcome. It did take me a while to wrap my head around who was supposed to be doing what, and the crowd throwing objects might make things a bit too easy, but I think those are minor complaints in the face of the humongous effort this game represents. I never got lost nor had trouble figuring out what to do. I'm also impressed that this game manages to tell a fairly serious tale of fighting against corporate authoritarianism dotted with comedic moments, and those comedy points don't detract from the story.
This is a really impressive entry, definitely top-tier. Way to go, Gensun!
Overall: A unique story (for a JRPG-based jam at least) backed by gorgeous pixel art and a cool battle system makes for a standout of this jam. I've only tested two games so far but that's my early call.
Gameplay: Morale in addition to HP was a cool twist on the usual battle system.
Music: Very impressed by the sound design, especially with the plugins you've written for dynamic volume control.
Comedy: A more serious entry which wasn't bad, but storybook Harold, Indirect Action Reid, and Lucius's moves bump this up a bit. "You cannot run with scissors" was funny too.
Graphics: Very impressive. Love the lineless style and the little pointers throughout. Very polished presentation.
Story: Wouldn't expect a politically charged theme like this but can't say I'm not here for it either.
The graphics is this game are amazing!!! The story was pretty fun as well. I thought the battle system was really strange and would have rather spam attacked. It was sort of confusing what the best strategy was and a lot of moves didn't feel useful. Just my opinion.
This gives me a good idea of the direction to take when I attempt this style of battle system a second time, thanks for your feedback!
Originality, story and comedy are things that I absolutely loved in this game. You really brought life and personality to all the characters. A strategically appetizing battlesystem and graphics that create a beautiful setting. Congratulations, really nice
this game goes hard. I love how I can win combat by mocking the cops and eating granola bars. solid entry
Based on real life clownassery I witnessed in the US around 2020!
There's a bug after entering the building, if you try to go right and down and Marsha says to go the other way, you'll walk into the NPC and be unable to move... ended up having to redo the previous fight :(
That aside, great game. I liked the story and the humour.
The most cohesively well made entry so far. The story is engaging and the graphics are incredibly well made. Battles are okay but could have been trimmed down in speed.
The story is intriguing and covers some interesting topics which I find amusing and enriching.
Well done.
