Critical feedback as requested :

0:00 - 0:30 : Good start with the gong some pads and doublebass and or cello. Although way too much reverb especially on the doublebass, its easily getting muddy you'll have to cut some low frequency on the reverb itself and tone down the wet signal. You also starts a standard chord progressions going to the dominant early. For me going to a dominant chords mean I want to do a resolution back "home" but this early and its also the only time you are using the chord that is clear does not place me in the mood of whats going on you are doing it couple more times later on but its not noticeable enough imo, I would've continue to go modal for a while before incorporating the chord.

0:35 - 1:14 - There is a lot happening here , doing triads arp on the low registrer with the doublebass/cello is not the best idea in terms of frequencies plus the reverb adding on now you get the real mud and make no space for other instruments which means I can hear that lots of stuff is happening but i'm also missing almost everything. You can try to space your voicing instead of doing closed up triads arp that will help in one way

1:14 - 2:15 : We can finally breathe in the frequency spetrum but you basically just moved everything from low end to mid range so we still have the same issue its just less packed.

2:15 - 3:00 : Same as 0:35 - 1:14 , Lots going on, missing some info because its not clear enough

3:00 to end : Thats a great idea with the tremolo pad you have some cool sound design but its all cut from high frequencies, I think the mid-range pad is very nice and all the sound design in the background should be way higher in frequencies it will make the track breathe so much more.

All in all, you got a good mood and ideas, you track just need some space to put all the ideas so we can fully hear everything clearly.

Really appreciate it man. I will keep your feedback in mind for the future. You have shown me things I wasn't aware of in the piece.

FoxHyode: “I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Frequencies on fire off the shoulder of the dominant. I watched Mud and reverb glitter in the dark in the mix. All those moments will be thought upon in time." Why did I mess with this monologue?

Haha enough of that now cheers!

Very cinmatic! all the time i can imagine and old hunted mansion, lightings, wind, moving trho the salons to the back yard, finding some graveyard and the fellings of ilumination, sense of elevation at the end, really nice work

Developer

Interesting take on the idea that the piece invoked. Thanks!

I think you did a good job of creating a real sense of ambience. It definitely fits the vibe too. Maybe the ostinato continues too perpetually throughout the track, but it's pretty good overall. The reverb pulls everything in well. It's also nicely composed.

I think that the harp could be mixed/have better dynamics, and some of the midi instruments get a bit grating and aren't mixed as well as some of the more droning instruments.

Overall, solid work. Good job!

Thanks Overlord! For the feedback and the opportunity of course.

Hey! I did a review of your entry via video. I posted it on the Jam discord but appreciate everyone might not be on there. Here's the video timestamp for your entry: https://youtu.be/1-aLhBdNCKE?t=9436

Hey thanks so much for pointing me to your video. I completely missed it in the discord lol. Very informative thank you! Wish I could hear a bit more of your feedback while you were listening though haha.

I don't usually stream or anything and I messed up the sound a lot haha

Really interesting track with great sound design elements. I specially liked the second section with wide atmospheric sounds and noises and a hint of harmony in the background. The reprise of the string attacks also worked great and the outro is really cool and fitting too. It took me to a distant place and immersed me in this distant ancient civilization which seems to be working in the building of something huge (and which might bring their own destruction or make them gods) while immersed in a thunderstorm.

Your feedback is very much appreciated! I will keep the info on the sections in mind to think about. Also good to hear how it immersed you.

The dark foreboding feeling in this song is really well done. It feels like at any moment it's going to break out into a full heavy metal descent, and that anticipation really keeps you engaged as it you listen. The additional sound effects are amazing too, and really help tie it into the more natural aspects of the theme. Really nicely done!

Developer

Appreciate the reply and the useful info! I was certainly going for a heavy textural quality. Interesting point on the anticipation aspect. I totally see what you mean haha.

Some pretty unique sound design that made the track shine and different from what i've heard so far. Strong start really in your face "Oh dang its starting" super dark, I like the ending with the sound design doing some vibrating ostinatos.

Thanks for the informative feedback on the sound design and the other parts!

Ominous vibes - like a curse from a north witch you cannot shake off. The sounds of wolf and rain are a great touch! My favorite, composition wise. Great tune!

Developer

Oh, thanks for the info! Glad you liked the Compositional aspect of the piece
