Description
For this music jam, I composed a series of three ambient tracks inspired by the theme of “Death Knight.” Each composition explores the somber journey of a death knight—in this case, a weary figure tasked with the solemn duty of collecting the souls of fallen soldiers on the battlefield. The pieces, Silent Watcher, The Worn Hand of Death, and Mourning Rain, were made with a cinematic approach in a game, focusing on mood and storytelling.

Do I need to say something? People have already said everything... it's beautiful!
Really nice work with the space, placing things.
The opening swell has such a vibe, and then adding in all the sounds. This is really nice and cohesive. The little strings are a little dry, and could use a little more attention compared to the rest of the mix.
I keep wanting a bit of a payoff with those string swells at about the 1:30 mark, like it's going to hit the bass and go into something melodic.
The sense of space that I do get now at 2:30 is really nice too. It takes me to a place that feels very Souls esque just in terms of what the sound does visually to me, where you have the beauty of nature, but also some darkness.
Second track/3:00 ish
This is a nice contrast with the track that came before it, and feels very appropriate coming after it. This has more development melodically. It's also very rich and unique. It still feels like the mix is a little murky and maybe running into itself space-wise. Solving this can be a very tricky thing to do, but I really like what you're doing here musically and with the design of the sound.
The bass drum is maybe also a little dry.
I think the biggest thing a lot of people do is not having enough wetness in their tracks, fearing that it's immature somehow. Really, I think the way to use wetness is to have some things be wetter and some things be a bit drier.
Track 3
I love again how you go in with this appropriate musical contrast. It is totally the right vibe after the track that comes before it.
Really, really excellent work, and you should absolutely be proud of this one. As Fox mentioned, you would have done well in the ambience jam that we had earlier. I will be hosting ambience jams as one of the core series.
Thank you so much for your feedback! You explained what improvements I could make in a clear and understandable way--like I can actually hear how to fix what you're pinpointing in the songs.
This is exactly what I was looking for joining this jam, honest and helpful advice from pros!!!
Super nice ambient album, rich textures , good mix. Well done, you would've done good too for the previous Ambient jam.
The music is beautiful and foley gives a lot of depth, I could immerse myself in this soundtrack. I was really touched by the piano at the end of Mourning Rain. Truly inspiring and production is amazing.
Nice inclusion of real world sounds, can really appreciate the crow sound effect. The ambience is next level, would love to see you expand on the idea of inlcuding background sound effects with the piece. I really think your pieces have the ability to transcend music and frolic in the field of story telling without words. Slowly fading in human ambiences, what comes to mind is the soundscapes you may hear walking through a crowd in assassins creed.
But just my two cents, Love the work.
I can only echo everything -NOVA- said, really stellar production and immaculate ambience/vibes!
There's not a lot of music that can you just close your eyes and Feel the music, but these had that quality for me.
Great stuff!
The sound is rich and epic. You've done a great job incorporating sound effects!
Absolutely fantastic mixing on all three of theses - I started off with Mourning Rain and my ears perked up immediately at the slow transition from rain into growling, rumbly basses. The piano drifts and falls into the track and the ambience is wonderful! Worn Hand of Death has wonderfully low sub that my headphones can barely pick up, but oh man it hits just right. Again, the sound design and effects are done excellently. The heartbeat percussion beating oddly between measures is a great way to display weariness and exhaustion. Then, Silent Watcher has this delightful panning trill and tremolo of some sort of strung instrument, and the whispers are a nice touch.
Blown away dude, honestly. Great job!!!
Thank you so much! This is my first music jam, so i'm happy you like it!
