Did you work in a team?
A solo project, and yes, I loved to create this little game

Was the resolution a challenge?
Yes - a point-and-click adventure game "needs" texts and some elements on screens. It's been a bit complex to make everything to work

What did you learn?
I wanted to try to create a comedy adventure. Low-res was intriguing also for creating characters

Very cool to try a point-and-click in this space. I think you pulled it off really well, especially getting the size of the characters and the text to work in such a small space.

Developer

thank you so much :-)

Nice game ! The less-or-more trash behavior of everybody in this game (including the player) as well as the "Office theme" and the pixel art scale of all characters kinda reminded me of Bitmuch, a really trashtalking french web serie with quite a special (but hilarious) mood ahah ^^ ! (sadly, there is only a french version, but maybe the visuals can get you an idea ahah)

Everything worked pretty well : every pickup is intuitive to find and the beginning of the story is pretty straightforward, but it's what you want considering you can't have too many text.

Also, more important, the story have a nice little ending like I expected from a story involving time travel !

No apparent bug, well polished and functionnal game. Pixel art was on point.

I think you expected that, but my only criticism is the absence of sound effects. Point-and-click games with FX tend to be more immersive, and you can use it in your LD to guide your players in many ways.
It could be a nice addition post jam !

Great game man. Impressive for a solo project, really. Be proud !

Developer

thank you for you words :-) - I've tried to have a quick look at the french web serie but it seems that's not available outside France (I'll check if there's a way to see at least a preview somewhere - quite curious :) )

about sounds / FX - you're right - I'll surely consider adding them post jam :-)

thanks again

Nice and simple point-and-click! well done!

Developer

thank you so much :-)

Fun take on old-school point-and-click adventure! Very solid art and audio. You did a wonderful job of fitting all of this into the limitations :)

Developer

thank you so much for your words :-)

nice game, liked the graphics, the posters and paintings are really great, not many pixels and still recognisable. played to the end, maintained interest all the way through. hard to mention some of the things i liked without giving spoilers :).

Developer

thanks :-D - and yes - game's short - so talking about it without risking spoilers is almost impossible

A really fun little adventure. I had a few laughs and really wanted to murder Tom. However, I could not find a bullet... Help please!

Developer(+1)

thanks :-D

about the bullet - have you talked to the first guy entering the hall? He said he LOVES this mansion apple pie! But there's any around... if so you could ask the sweet cook about that :-)

Submitted(+1)

I did it!!! Thanks!

I really enjoyed the humour, and well done for making quite a long story given the time. It's impressive that you made a point and click game work in such small resolution, although I occasionally had trouble  clicking on items. Really nice submission!

Developer

thanks :-) happy you liked it

and yes - sometimes the hotspot for some element not only is very small (a couple of items are 3x1 pixels) but is also between other elements. I was thinking about some tactics to free areas but at the end I didn't try to implement it

Nice art, animations, and story, but I'm especially amazed how good the dialog looks for this resolution. Very faithful to the old-school adventure genre. Great job!

Developer

thanks :-) I'm happy you said that .-) - I am (of course) a fan and I really like this genre

Submitted(+1)

Loved it! It's funny and well written. Good job with managing to put such amount of dialog text in the limited screen space. I'm also amazed you've managed to make a decently lengthy narrative game within the time constraints.

Developer (1 edit)

thanks :-) really happy you like it :-D

ps - I'm in love with your fox btw - you  have really wonderful animations in your entry

Submitted(+1)

good stuff! i liked the layout and the flow of the game. one small suggestion, it would be nice to be able to select items from the bottom menu and use them directly on objects. nice work!

Developer

thanks - glad you liked it  :-)

about drag'n'drop for items - thanks - I'll think about that as post-jam improvement

10/10 would want to murder Tom again. The music gets a bit repetitive, but the story is great! I i spot it rendering "half" pixels here and there, so it is not rendered at a true 64x64 resolution.

Developer

thanks for playing - and I'm happy you liked it :-)

about half pixels - yes - I wasn't aware of that - and someone else wrote me about it hours ago

If I get that right I guess the problem is a missing round function related to mouse render (cursor & related text) - I mean ONLY cursor and text that appears above the cursor could be not pixel perfect positioned. I'll fix that bug later on today - but I didn't notice that before - so I don't know if there's something else

Anyway thanks for pointing that out

Submitted(+1)

That is an awesome game with awesome art ! I love the story.
I'm a bit sad that the game isn't pixel perfect and the text is hard to read because of the transparency.
However I spent a great time <3
(good poster choices for Ted's house by the way)

Developer

thanks for playing it :-)

not sure to have understood the "pixel perfect" issue - but yes - I've kept the black pixel border in fonts  slighly transparent  but maybe this isn't helping contrast - if that's the case - sorry about that .-|

Submitted

What I call "pixel perfect" is that everything is in a 64 by 64 grid

Developer(+1)

argh - you're right - I didn't notice that the mouse cursor and the text related to its position are missing a ceil call

thanks to point that out to me

Submitted(+1)

Nice point and click, it works perfectly with that resolution. It reminded me lucas art's hits.

Developer

thank you so much for trying it out and for your kind words :-)

Submitted(+1)

Really enjoyed the game, nice and original story, cool twist in the end. Great job with that entry!

Developer

thanks :-) glad you played it and liked it :-D

Super Nice Game, it's impressive that you could make a point and click adventure in this resolution and archieve this awesome result

Developer(+1)

thanks :-) I'm really happy you like it :D

I love the fact that you made a point 'n click game in this tiny resolution, and it worked! I think in gameplay-wise this was as smooth as it can get. Puzzles weren't that hard, but I think it's better that you can breeze through these kind of jam games rather than get stuck in some obscure puzzle. My main issue was that the main character was a horrible person! :D It made it hard for me to get much enjoyment out of story. Nonetheless, good effort.

I found that when playing in full screen my horizontal mouse movement was way slower than vertical, so I just played it in windowed mode. (I do have a 21:9 monitor so I guess that's part of the reason for this issue)

Developer(+1)

thank you so much for your words :-) and yes-  you're right - Ted is not someone you should sympathetic with :-D

About the mouse issue - uh - yes - it may be that (movement is anyway mapped to 64x64 plus border - with a such huge difference between width and height I need to see if something doesn't go too much off scale). Sorry about that
