Did you work in a team?
2 people (coder/musician and pure coder), we started the jam a week late. Had a lot of fun collaborating on development.
Was the resolution a challenge?
Fitting any significant amount of text is difficult at 64Ć64, so we tried to give clues to how to play the game in other ways (audio, color, single letters and words)
What did you learn?
Joined because the limitation forces interesting solutions to everyday gamedev problems, and to stretch development muscles.

This little gem is why I love game jams. Mysterious sci-fi setting, fantastic atmosphere created by the minimalistic approach to graphics, and the excellent music and sound design. Gameplay could use a bit of polish for ease of use, but nonetheless a fantastic entry.
Well done!!
Now thatās a totally brand new approach to exploration! The concept is great, but maybe gameplay is a bit unforgivingā¦ refuelling is almost a death sentence until you get really skilled on itā¦ and understanding the risks for the planets is very difficult. Music is top notch and general immersive experience of the game really good and so different from other entries! Great job there!
very nice concept and graphics, but i didnt really understood what am i doing sometimes. love the sounds, and the mood of this game.
I want to love this game, it has this āweird Atari ST gameā vibe that is very intriguing. The audio is perfectly on point. The planet graphics are amazing! The controls have a somewhat steep learning curve and I couldnāt figure out fuel scooping without sacrificing half my hull, haha. Perhaps the most unique entry Iāve seen in this jam so far!
Wow loved the concept and vibe of this, and the planets looked awesome close up.
I couldn't quite get the fuel scoop right it seemed like I had almost no control of the ship so maybe I was just doing something wrong.
Also couldn't quite figure out how to choose planets, the probe didn't seem to give much information.
And just getting a "thanks for playing" at the end was a bit unsatisfying.
This one has a very intriguing concept that's fleshed out in a way that feels very full despite the time constraints of the jam. I had a bit of trouble understanding the controls inside the solar system at first. The music choice is great, and the graphics do exactly what they need to when they need to, with the planets being an especially nice graphical touch.
Cool little game. I had a little trouble figuring out what was going on at first, but more or less got the hang of it after a while. The sounds and aesthetics were great. Nice job!
I love the art, it's a super cool and creative premise, and the planet-intercept mechanics are as genius as it is fun. This is a winner in my book!
I played this game on stream, the vod is up at http://bit.ly/bean-stream
Really cool game with awesome-looking planets :) It's a challenge getting it to feel like you are in this huge space while working at such a low resolution, but I think you pulled it off. Great job!
Thank you for your kind words, very happy you were able to get a little bit of a sense of scale at the 64Ć64 resolution š
I love it! ^^ I ALWAYS run out of fuel right after scooping though? Im definitely doing it wrong, I make a circle orbit through the green band and that uses all my fuel, I lose hull and my fuel doesn't go back up? The best survival I get is 40% by selecting a planet with tectonics, and I swear your lovely and gorgeous planets look like they have dense clouds and then theres no atmosphere again! ^^ great game though I wish I was better at it! :)
Hehe, the different systems (weather, atmosphere, etc.) sadly arenāt tied together as tightly as we wanted them to be - a number of parameters are more or less random š
As for running out of fuel and scooping stars - we regrettably donāt have anything in the game to indicate it, but the yellow band around the star has the best fuel-to-hull-damage ratio, so the most hull-effective way of scooping fuel is to just pass through parts of the yellow band and then let the trajectory pull you away from the star again~
Iāve added a hints section to the game page based on your feedback, thank you! And thank you for playing~!
This is super unique and refreshing! The music and sound design really create the perfect atmosphere (no pun intended), and once I got the hang of the controls, exploration was super fun! Awesome job!
Very happy you like the audio, spent a lot of time on it~
The controls, while fairly consistent, are not quite intuitive enough to work without a tutorial. On the very last day we managed to get in the little instructional splash screens before each āactionā segment of the game, but that alone hasnāt been enough to avoid confusion š
Thank you for playing~!
Wow I just fell in love with the game š
The color theme + planet imagery + small details like the falling shuttle + the audio + soooooo many great things
Awesome game !!!
Thank you for your kind comments~!
Very happy you enjoyed the game š
