This was fun! I really liked the sound effects. It got really difficult after there were more than one ghost on the screen and it was fun trying to juggle stunning them and killing them. Good job!

Did you work in a team?
Aside from some minor assistance, I was the only developer.
Was the resolution a challenge?
Miraculously, all necessary game elements were able to fit within the resolution fairly comfortably. A larger play area could have made ghosts clump together a bit less, but it also might have made the game unmanageable. The only thing that truly suffered was the tutorial screens (and even then I managed to fit all game mechanics in there).
What did you learn?
I've done several gamedev projects before, but this is the smallest scale I've ever done in terms of mechanics. It helped me reconsider how to make a game interesting without necessarily adding many pieces of content to it. I started a bit late, but the extra time after dev also helped me experiment with UI and save files in a more in-depth manner than I had ever done before.
Comments
I have a comment I made on a different webpage that I'll put here to help:
Your mouse has a small area of visibility around it at all times. Left clicking uses your flashlight. Right clicking uses your knife.
Ghosts can be stunned with the flashlight, which leaves them vulnerable to the knife. When hit with the knife in this state, they die. If hit with the knife while not stunned, they dodge.
Ghosts left alone long enough will start to laugh. If left laughing, they will kill you. This can be interrupted with the flashlight or knife.
The sleeper is a special ghost that looks like the other ghosts, except with closed eyes. When hit with the knife or stunned with the flashlight, it begins to bend itself out of shape. It must be sliced with the knife to prevent its transformation, once per stage of transformation. If it fully transforms, you die. If you slice it when its in its least bent shape, it dies.
I'm not the best at visual tutorials and the resolution was too small for me to consider words, so I knew there might be some issues with this. I probably should have split it into more pages...
Cool game, I really like the title text script and the end-game ghost screen! Very pleasing art style.
If you created this in only 2 days, then really good job! When I read the picture tutorial, I didn't understand how to play it. (I had to ask for an explanation using words.) So that's an issue. Another issue is the lack of music. Otherwise good.
Simple but cute.
Though could have used some background music or ambience, and the knife sprite not lining up with the attack confused me at first.
I'm sorry, I don't understand how to play the game. I don't understand the pictures in the tutorial. Could you, please, reply me by a description of the gameplay using words?
Awesome and cute game. I loved the knife animation when you slash, it looks super smooth! Great job.
I like the style you have drawn the ghosts, and the way they go “angry mode” before attacking is a really fun element. It makes them appear quite lively.
I think it took me at least ten times until I at least somehow got the hang of my flashlight. Apparently I waved the light around too fast when trying to scan the area for ghosts and lost control.
The highest score I managed to get was 13 and I think I saw two ghost types. Whenever multiple entities spawned at once I knew I was doomed.
If you’ll ever expand the game some BGM would definitely spice up the already quite nice atmosphere.
Keep on jammin’ !
An interesting game similar to reverse horror, when you don't cut ghosts with a knife, but they cut you. I was amazed by the game from the beginning to the very end of the game.
My highscore was 20! This game seems fit for the resolution, in the sense that it seems nothing was lost because of the resolution limit. Well, almost nothing: you already commented on this up there, but the only thing that may have suffered a bit from the resolution was indeed the tutorial. I knew I had to flash the light at the ghosts, but I was unaware that I had to hold it before hitting them, so I tried hitting them right after putting the light on them. After a few tries I figured it out though.
I totally felt like the bad guy killing all those ghosts, they are so cute! Even the sleeper haha. This game mechanically plays very well, and the sfx is pretty good. The knife animations and the ghost being cut were pretty juicy, and gave me little bursts of dopamine. Great job!
Oh, and the comment someone else made about this being an on-rails shooter is spot on: it would be pretty cool haha, especially with the occasional jumpscare here and there.
Very cute game! I kept slashing randomly at one point because the dodge animation is just wonderful. The sound effects are also very relaxing.
Super cool and pretty game, great job!
I played this game on stream, the vod is up at http://bit.ly/bean-stream
Interesting mechanics in this one. I liked it. Good job on the graphics as well.
Oh my gosh, so adorable and so well polished for the two days you had! Talk about perfect scope. Absolutely charming
