Tools
Aseprite, Godot 4, FamiStudio, sfxr.exe. I found that sticking to small single frame animations helped me push through the art which I normally don't have the patience for.

Lessons
I got a lot of experience with working with UI and 8bit music.

Way cool! I haven’t seen a combat engine quite like this before, and it totally works. Love what you’re doing with the lo-fi graphics and music too.

Great atmosphere, starting from the main menu. Inventory management is confusing but at the same time it is not, takes but a few seconds of experimentation to get used to. First play I was fighting skeleton archer for like full 2-3 minutes before getting owned, on second playthrough I referenced the item sheet and became badass with a crown and helbard, it sure regretted meeting me again. The main boss is too easy once you gear up, which was a bit of a letdown, but it was fun in overall, good job.

The boss got less love than the others. I think I would've made a different weapon set and maybe some custom mechanics like gaining 1 attack and defense each turn. I also wish I made the boss music myself. The music doesn't match the vibe I was going for.

If I were to redo this not in a jam setting I would certainly invest in a tutorial lol. I'm glad you enjoyed the game and thank you for the feedback :)

Believe in your dreams I did it! I really like the black and white graphic bias and the design of the monsters is very successful. On the other hand I find that the game system seems very interesting but it is really not easy to understand and use. I think we should succeed in helping the player more to understand what he must or can do by feedback (sound or visual) or small textual indications.

Godot has a really easy implementation for adding different spirits for hovering over buttons that I didn't use. I want to blame the low resolution but I could have been a little more creative with it. Thanks for the feedback!

this took me a few plays to sink in, but i'm glad i gave it time. you handled the challenge of shrinking down a game like this to a small resolution well. fantastic audio as well. i love the 1-bit graphics. it's pretty easy to tell what things are and i like the creativity in your creature designs. i think a game like this definitely relies on prior genre knowledge but with that, it works well. great job!

Thank you so much for playing! It really helped to draw the 64x64 square in asprite and drawing something, then moving it out of the box to build the sprite sheet. Getting weapon sprites to be distinct in such a small box took some messing with but I really liked how it turned out.

I really enjoyed my time with this game! The game is simple but there is a good amount of strategy in selecting your weapons and in what order to play your attacks. I haven't seen any turn-based combat system that is quite like this. If you continue to work on this project, I'm sure there is a lot more that you could do with it! Great job!

I have been toying with an idea of a turn based game where you pick both an attack and defense move in the same turn. I hadn't quite figured it out until I stumbled across this idea. I certainly might revamp it to a full scale game...

Thank you for playing!

Just played Crypt Crawl! I loved the simple turn based combat especially with all the unique moves you can do with all the actions! I agree with the comment below mine, I wish a little bit more was instructed/explain (Even if it just on the game page). Some Item descriptions would also be super helpful before committing to switch equipment! Awesome job!

I did consider adding a spread sheet but for whatever reason decided not to. I'll work on adding that tonight.

Sounds Awesome!

I added all of the stats and equipment into a png on the side. I've also added some more information in the description. Thanks for playing and thanks for the suggestion. :)

No problem! I’m totally gonna have to give it another spin!

i really like the music and graphics!! i think the only thing i would change is adding some simple directions but i also know i tend to be confused more easily than other people so prob not a common request lol

I'll go ahead and add it into the description. Thanks for the feedback!

I'm extremely proud of this. I have issues finishing projects and quitting jams but I did it and even finished early. I am very grateful for anyone that gives it a try :)
