How does your game fit the theme "Unconventional Means"?
You use a gun to climb a mountain which is pretty unconventional if you ask me

This is definitely one of my favourites! Thought it was a bit weird at first that climbing Gun Mountain with a Gun is unconventional but then I started playing. I thought the trajectory at first was weird like "oh so my bullets shoot backwards" but when I shot my first shot I loved that you chose this method of traversal, it fits the theme very well. Graphics and audio were very solid, and the gameplay was the perfect level of difficulty. Was really cool to get the powerup too, would have liked more of that where you end up with a lot of bullets by the end. Would love to see this taken further after the jam!

Nice art and super easy to understand, some say it's too short but it's perfect for a Game jam so everyone can finish it.

✓ 21/9 working

Good job!

Gun Mountain Ups and Downs

Ups:

  • Graphics and Audio are both superb and complement each other very well
  • The controls feel amazing and natural
  • The addition of a timer gives the game decent replayability to try and set a high score, which is nice
  • It's just overall a LOT of fun

Downs:

  • It's pretty short, which is perfectly understandable considering the time frame it was made in.  Honestly, there's a lot of potential that could be extracted from this concept. The whole time I was playing, I thought about how great this control scheme would work in a rage game (like Getting Over It with Bennett Foddt)

Overall, an excellent and fun game with LOADS of potential for possible extension!

I love the art and the design in this -the play feels really good and the player looks great as they land -and it feels snappy and fun to play (got very challenging too!) Cohesive design and a great use of the theme too!! Fantastic work!! :D

This game is AWESOME!! You should do a complete game after the jam with various levels!

The only problem with the game is that you don't know where to go without killing yourself first. You could implement a zoom out mechanic or a minimap!

I started playing again and... somehow I survived the spikes! XD

Maybe because I got the checkpoint and passed through it

Thanks for the nice comment! I might look into making a full game out of this and thanks for the suggestion of the camera zoom and minimap. I tried to add arrow signs to kind of guide the player where to go and that kind of worked but I will be looking into adding a camera zoom of sorts so thanks for suggesting that!

Really fun and the perfect level of difficulty. Best entry I've played so far. My only criticism is that the camera hitting the right edge of the room can screw up your shooting, since it changes the position of Rob relative to your cursor and thereby throws off your trajectory.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I will be looking into fixing that so thanks for bringing it to my attention!

This is a perfectly well polished and complete experience. The level design especially is pretty top notch. The perfect difficulty curve in my opinion. I suppose the art could be improved in some areas but it hardly detracts from the experience. I’ve rated this the highest amongst all other games I’ve played minus a select few. Lovely job!

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks a lot! I wanted the diffculty to scale as you climbed the mountain and I think I did a pretty good job of that. I’m not the greatest artist so some areas of the game might look empty but hey it’s all a big learning experience. With every game you make the more you improve! Anyways thanks for the nice comment!

You have a strong eye for cohesive game design. You’re definitely improving, and very quickly.

beautifull game, it just needed a reload button because i got myself soft locked, taking that this game is from all the others following the same premise that i played, the best

Developer

I have now updated the game to fix that pesky soft lock and if it still isn’t fixed you can press R to retry from the last checkpoint. Thanks for the nice comment!

Everything about the game was great, but the sound effects were a bit too loud :/

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! You can turn down the volume of the game in the options menu if you think they are too loud.

REALLY well done. The game is really polished and I can tell a lot of thought was put into it. And the fact that you're a solo dev?!

Developer

Haha thanks for the kind words! You can get a lot done in just 72 hours. Working solo on a game can be hard but with enough practice you’ll be able to create amazing games. You just gotta keep on practicing that’s all.

Nice take on the theme, the mechanic is very enjoyable to use. The trajectory display is extremely useful for lining up my shots to create the perfect leap. The art and music fit together really well and are overall very polished for a jam game. Great work!

Also, I did encounter one bug right at the very end, where I got stuck on the corner of a ledge. Even though I wasn't moving, I was still considered in the air and couldn't shoot. A restart button would be very useful in case the player is softlocked.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the nice comment! And for the bug I’m sorry you had to restart. The chances of that happening seem extremely low from my experience as it seems you need to perfectly land on the edge of a block. I will be looking to fix that after the jam ends so thank you for showing that bug to me. A restart button is also a good idea so I will implement that too.
