Nice game, much easier to play with the joypad, though I did find jumping and dashing at the same time a little tricky... Art was nice, though it would have looked even better with consistent pixel sizes... some of the small enemies ended up looking very high-res! I also don't understand click to open doors... I would think that using a key or an interaction button would be better as it would mean that the mouse was only used for the potion book. That book was a great idea btw - really fun to mix potions to unlock abilities!

Developer(+1)

This is a great suggestion! Might incorporate this if we continue development :)

I absolutely love the look of this game, it sounds great and plays well too, all in all a really polished entry, game play is nice and I like the crafting mechanic! Obviously a talented team who given time could produce something pretty special!

I must admit I haven't got very far (yet to get past the big frog!) and I seem to be a magnet for falling into the water! But I go back to play again!

Great entry

Still nice to play, now i didn't bugged out anymore.

For some reason i didn't found any Farm Frog Items. and couldn't progress anymore. I think that drops from those little Frogs on the Map with that Big Frog? The little Tiny Blue Frogs that crawling on the Wall?

I killed that big Frog and then died in the next Map because i feel into the "Abyss" After that i couldn't get Farm Frog anymore. Other Materials worked fine.

I hope i didn't missed something i run plenty of times back and forth but didn't find any other Creatures that looked like a Frog.

Im still missing a quick Swipe/Dashing Sound when attacking xD I think that would add so much to it, but maybe im wrong. Not sure.

Still Like the Potion Crafting, i would suggest maybe a different Font since its hard to read in my opinion.

Good Work!

Developer

So you are correct that Farm Frogs are the little blue frogs, however, the prefab for them has them spawning in your inventory as builder beetles which is sad since it means you cannot make your last few potions.

Thank you for giving it another shot!!

Also, yes! I totally agree! Having a little sound for the different attacks would add a lot to the game, thank you for that great suggestion!

Cute little game, soothing music!

I liked the potions mechanic, but maybe the first potion should be for attacking, not jumping. Who needs a potion to bend their knees, but not for releasing air power? xD

Pretty cool idea, the learning curve is a little off, but overall pretty sweet and interesting.

Cool little adventure

I really like the pixel art and attention to detail in the animations

Controls are in a bit of an odd spot, cause i feel there's nothing wrong with how they feel = how the character moves the physics of jumps etc... but the chosen mapping of keys make some actions more difficult then they would be for exemple the dash move on a very close key to the movement ones, and the down direction to attack was a bit unusual, plus i felt it wasn't all that intuitive that the doors required the mouse when i thought it was only to access the alchemy book since it was a menu. So some remaping and you can already iron out some issues i'd say.

Now that said the Game has some really cool positives, i already mentioned the art and animation but i gotta point out also the cool cauldron "cinematic" when you craft a potion ^^ which takes me to the next cool thing, the way you managed to integrade the optional theme, in that since you play an alchemist, you craft your own upgrades once you collect enough ingredients.

Overall well done :)

Thank you so much for the positive feedback!!

For the movement controls, some people wanted AWSDE controls, some wanted arrow key controls, so you are free to use both if you please! For UI space saving we only presented one option for the controls when hovering over the potion, but you're free to use the other controls for the game as well

No problem, and i totally get that key bindings can be a tough decision especially with all the possible layouts out there, especially since i also used a similar double bind config in the past to help people be able to play regardless :)

I didn't beat the game, I got until the level past the puking frog. It is pretty difficult (at least for me).

The art looks really nice! It looks very polished, my only gripe with it would be the varying pixel sizes. Everything is pixel graphics, but the pixels themselves seem to be different sizes of pixels which makes it look off. The camera also didn't seem to be pixel snapped. This is just a personal preference of mine though, it's just faux pixel graphics as I would call it, as nothing is actually aligned on a fixed pixel-size grid.

The gameplay is good, but I found myself dying a lot from bumping into enemies. The character feels rather fast compared to their environment, and I feel like that results in missing jumps and often accidentally bumping into enemies. What would help for the jump timing is if there was more time to adjust the character in mid-air to help land the jump. The game requires precise inputs right now to land it or miss it. But! If it was your goal to make a precision platformer, there you go, job accomplished.

The potion 'slogans' in the spellbook are pretty creative, so props for that! I think the idea of having potion brewing as a way to do ability unlocks is a creative way to do it.

The background music was really, really quiet. You mention there's sound design but I heard very few sounds in the game, how come? I feel they would've made the game more lively and enjoyable.

Good job on the submission. Maybe it's an idea to touch up the parts you didn't have enough time for and make an updated release?

Developer

Huh, I am definitely very new to pixel art (mainly am a programmer and just picked up some art stuff for the jam) so I actually never really realized this. What a great suggestion!

Since this comment, we also upped the background music volume and added in some more sounds here and there, so I hope this helps with the vibe of the game. We did have a wonderful sound designer, however, we sadly weren't able to implement everything that he gave us before the deadline.

Thanks so much for playing!!

So, I quite enjoyed this.  I did not beat it (I may come back and try again later), but it had a good feel for it. some critiques though: 1) I had the clipping issue. Had to restart the game and be careful not to fall off that platform Stusse Games noted.  Also, after I kill the frog, I am not sure where to go.  The vine area just kills me in no time (or I fall off the map and die. the background and platforms look too similar).  Are we supposed to just grind for frog parts?  Also, to go to the left in the frog area, I don't see a way to jump over the spikes without hitting them

but other than that, good job!  I really like the art for the main character, and it has a light hearted feel

Thanks for sharing these bugs! We went back and fixed a bunch of them! We would love for you to play through again!

I love it! Those darn tentacles are SO irritating. Great job!

Love the visuals in this game! Great work :D Encountered the same bug with falling off the map, also encountered another one that I fell through the floor in the tenticle area.

Could not get back to craft potions after visiting the tenticle area - everywhere seemed to need the double jump to progress. But maybe I just missed something, but after dying a bunch to the map and the tenticles I gave up on trying to find the way back with the goodies :). Great job on submitting!

Developer

Definitely good feedback, and sorry about the bugs! We might playtest a bunch more and make some of these changes with the extra time. Thanks for giving it a play!

Cool Game, the Attacking is so smooth and quick i like that, feels very good.

The Jumping and Crafting Idea is well implemented.

I got a problem at some point and bugged out of the map and could get back in anymore. and had to restart!

i just miss some more Sounds for Potion Crafting and Attacking or Hits on the Enemies

but awesome Work! Keep it up!

Developer

So sorry about these bugs! We tried our best to playtest it all but alas... We may go back in and re-submit now that we have an extra few days.
