Played this game way earlier on and then again...not sure if there were updates made or not? It looks like a Castlevania clone or what not.... and the game only goes so far with so much, but other than that...its got that classic vibe of the old metroid-era..... any chance to get a comment/rating on our my own submission? thanks! happy jamming
This is a neat little game. I think that there could be a sprint button or something like that. I also couldn't figure out what the other unlockables did if anything. If the sprites were taken from someplace, please put them in your sources so that you can credit the original creators. Other than that, it is a nice demo of a game.
Edit: Also just found a bug where when you first spawn in you can be clipped into the ceiling.
These sprites were directly ripped from Castlevania. The game was uploaded and last updated 23 days before the deadline. I'm all for imitating classics, but there needs to be effort put in. There's a great game in this jam the pulls so much influence from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and I love it, but they actually put the work in, their art is theirs. I can't in good conscience vote for this entry. Everyone else put work into their game, and voting for this entry would be disrespectful to everyone who did the work and made something that they can call their own.
Sprites were probably ripped straight from here.

Friend, you have a problem. Firstly, all the art was drawn by myself and of course I based it on retro Castlevania games, because it pays homage. And if you look at gamejam, it's full of games that have free assets, saying that you won't vote for my game for that reason is a lack of character on your part.
My problem is that you ripped the sprites from the original game. If you had listed them as external assets and just said that you didn't have time to replace them with your own, that would be a whole different story. I liked the intro and was excited to play until I saw the sprites. I double checked to see if you had listed them. You didn't.
This isn't a lack a character on my part. This is about you passing things off as your own, that is blantantly not yours. I believe you did the opening cutscenes which got my excited to play. But just slightly modifying existing sprites doesn't make it your own. I wish you could acknowledge that.
That I stole what animal, look at my portfolio, you're going to get your ass looked at, you piece of shit. It's my fault your game is ugly.
I did look at your portfolio and it looks solid, which makes it even more unfortunate that you can't own up to this one. But I've said my peace, good luck with the jam.
FUCK YOURSELF, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE IT, GET IT UP YOUR ASS
Cool graphics. Reminds me of the classic Castlevania. If there's one thing to comment about; I believe the dialogue must be skippable other than that. It plays as it is intended to be.
Ok. I love the concept retro/gameboy "Castlevania" style. I have to disagree that this controller/input setup is most intuitive. The arrows/WASD is the standard for movement but having W as jump and E as attack with the arrows, felt a little inverse to me personally....I would consider adding an alternate input system and/or gamepad to stand out and account for "all things", (ie: add mouse click for attacking.... Space as jump and E as interact but that is just what I come across most commonly....)
All this being said I like the look and sound and feel, and clearly going for classic metroidvania here
Starting the whole game over for touching spikes is immensely frustrating - more so because I cannot skip the opening cutscene.
The dialogue sound is unpleasant to listen to.
Clearly some metroidvania elements but I didn't get far enough to be sure - I stopped after getting the shield (Which wasn't explained?)
100% classic from look, feel, gameplay and brutal difficulty.
This is incredible. The classic art style blends so smoothly with the SFX and retro music. I loved every second of it!
I played this several days ago before Jam start.....can't wait to see what more you did with it!. would love to rate and comment more and also get some feedback on my own entry thanks! will 100% play and rate more effectively
O fato de não poder pular a tela de abertura depois de morrer é algo que poderia ser melhorado
I tried to continue playing after a death, but it sent me back to the language screen. Once the game finished with the opening cutscene, it spawned me underneath the starting area's stairs.
Thank you for the feedback, I will try to resolve this issue
