A very fun game! It's pretty solid, the art is just amazing, and the concept is pretty cool. I loved the bullets that bounce back and that I could stomp on enemies' heads.

The only flaw in my opinion is that the biggest enemy in the game for me was the camera, the type of transition for me is not the problem, but the places it transitioned most of the time it seemed to cut a movement and split it in two screens.

But I still had a lot of fun playing the game and it's really good! Despite what you said about him being short, I thought he was the perfect size for a weekend Game Jam and I don't think he's short! You did a great job, especially for the first time in a Game Jam! Amazing work!

Hey, it's moonlight sonata! The visuals of this game are stunning as heck, really.

Here's some feedback:

  • I also had the jump bug, and yes, it was quite annoying, but here's something I noticed: The jump bug never happens when you coyote jump. Maybe this can help you diagnose the issue (could be something related to ground detection and frame timing, maybe?).
  • Screen transitions should introduce you to a new challenge, but not blindly. When I get to a new screen, I want to understand what it's about, plan my next movement, and execute it. Finding an enemy or having to dodge something as soon as you transition between one screen and another can be a little frustrating.
  • I think there could be more visual feedback when you hit an enemy. Their death effect is great, but sometimes I don't know if I hit them.

And some of the things I really liked:

  • The graphics and style are absolutely gorgeous, and I love the design of the main character.
  • There are checkpoints!
  • The bouncing bullets mechanic is a lot of fun. I could see it being used like a way to kill multiple enemies and save health after a weapon upgrade or something.
  • You can jump on top of enemies without getting hit. That can be used in various situations which is nice/interesting.

I really wanted to get to the end of the game, this is such a cool entry.

This game looks really good and I knew it would be something I would like

But because of the design and bug jump it extremelly bittered the experience.

Here's a few things to list:

Don't make the camera move area to area in a platformer, I don't want to take blind leaps of faith every time I jump and hope I don't land into a spike and instantly die

The jump bug is definitly something with the code, both browser and executable have a 50/50 chance to not jump, in a platformer this just makes it frusterating( also it most likely doesn't have anything to do with framerate, unless the player is somehow fast enough to press and release the jump key in less time than a frame)

The enemies, idk if I was hitting a wall or the enemy because sometimes they would take 4 shots and sometimes 2, there isn't much feedback and idk how much health the enemy actually has

again the game is really great but these things really ruin it for me, also the bouncing bullets could use some more love, only time I actually used them was in the last lvl

Developer

alright, thanks for the constructive criticism! I will fix the issue whenever I try making a platformer again.

Hi! Nice game! i liked the art and the movement feels good the only feedback i can give some people have already mentioned, the jump sometimes doesn't work, the fact that the sfx plays even when the character doesn't jump might be a lead on how to solve it!

Developer

I don't really know how to fix the jumping problem. but thanks!

Really cool concept and artwork. The jump isnt working for me about 50% of presses for some reason though, it takes the input as the sound effect is played, but no jump. Maybe to do with how you handle longer presses meaning jump higher? Overall solid game though.

Is this an issue on the browser version, the executable version or both?

Submitted

The browser version

Developer

It probably has something to do with the framerate i think.

Sometimes the jump bugs out and doesn't take input, but the concept is pretty nice and I love the artstyle!

i was really impressed with the game! i really like the controls, and i have no problems with the jump.

My only issue is with the camera. there was a part where i had to jump up to go to the next room, but then there was an enemy. and i just fell down, and the camera just moves between those rooms so fast, that its hard to actually see whats ahead of you.

Great work!

It looks really cool, but the jump button needs to be fixed

Developer

Is it like you can't jump or you can't jump high enough?

ye I can't jump

Developer

That's odd, i've never had an issue with jumping.
