I loved the concept ! This is a very good entry for a game jam, hopefully I was able to saw it before the notations ends !

The things that I liked

  • The two side actions, rhythm plus kill enemies, it is a very fun exercise
  • The graphics, it reminds me a little of undertale
  • The humor, the text was meaningful or funny, it's good to see other things than just placeholders

The things that can be improved

  • I think that the health bar is too much, the concept can run without it and sometimes simplicity is better
  • It's not a real problem but big number are really hard to figure out by the player,  for example 1 and 7 or much more easy to compare than 10647 and 1558, like you  have to count the number to see which is bigger, if you look some games like FTL or Into the breach the  dev don't have numbers higher than 20

I don't think this concept can make a real game, but the concept of asking the player to do rhythm and actions in the same time (a little like Crypt of the necrodancer) can make a combat system or something like that, so if you want you can fit this idea in a whole game (I'll be the first to test it).

Hey, thank you for playing and the detailed feedback! I appreciate it!

The big number thing is so true, I didn't think of it at the time, I just set the durability cost to be exactly the BPM (it made sense in my head), and then adjusted the number up and up instead of scaling it down to more manageable numbers.

There has been some very interesting games lately that use the rhythm (play to the beat) mechanic, such as BPM bullets per minute and Metal: Hellsinger, and those kinds of games can get so fun to play. I was addicted to crypt of the necrodancer for a long time, I've been wanting to play cadence of hyrule for the same reason. While I don't plan to make Uncadaveric a real game, as I've been just studying a lot lately and trying to come with different things until I feel confident enough for a bigger project (I'm basically just  doing lots of game jams), I do want to make a rhythm game of sorts one day.

Again, thanks for playing, I hope to see you in future jams!

Wow, the concept is awesome and I'm really impressed with the execution of it for such a short jam, especially being done by a solo dev. A little difficult but fun, and there's even a great tutorial to get the hang of it! I won't give any obvious feedback like "you could have added X or Y" because this has more than anyone should expect from such a short jam, so I'll just say great job!

Absolutely wonderful! Brilliant concept, which makes for a thoroughly engaging experience, struggling to maintain a steady beat at the various tempos whilst paying attention to changes, viruses and my rapidly decreasing health. I loved how it made me feel like I was constantly on the verge of disaster.

There's a great range of items in the shop, with some really difficult decisions to make. The one where you trade defibrillators for health was particularly great - I really missed having the safety net, but it was often the only way I'd stand a chance at making it to the next shop.

Definitely found it to be on the tricky side, as I'd rarely have enough tokens between rounds to get much in the way of healing items, but had a great time regardless.

Also, the little stick figure of Joseph is absolutely delightful I love him so much

Thank you so much for playing and all the feedback! I'm very glad you enjoyed the game.

Also, poor Joseph he was supposed to have different animations for the activities but I couldn't manage to do it in time so he just keeps falling endlessly haha.

I love the heart art/animation/sound effect, well done.

Tutorial is good too. Intuitive, short, with a little bit of story telling sprinkled in.

I like the concept and i want to see where it goes, but i can't get far.

For me it's impossible to get far because if you get a nightmare or a gym you lose all your durability and you can't buy anything significant in shop to offset that, i didn't fail a single action, everything was closely on beat.

Maybe durability should decrease based on how closely you are to the target BPM?

Developer

Thanks for playing, for the kind words, and for all the feedback!

The thing with the activities, that maybe I should've conveyed better, is that they're not actually "mandatory", in a way that you can kind of skip them if you want to, and beat your heart at the rate you want. However, by doing that you earn very few tokens, which may interrupt your progress. There is actually a use for that, though: Lower BPM costs less durability, so you can try to preserve your heart until you get to the shop instead of getting lots of tokens from the activities.

That being said, I think I didn't make that clear enough, maybe I should've done that in the tutorial. Nightmares, Gym activities, and some of more difficult activities like fishing or surviving an accident can be super good for tokens, but they do devastate your heart's durability if you're not careful, because they usually require fast BPM rates.

Again, thanks for all the feedback, I really appreciate it

Very unique and it felt like the limitation was central to the design,  Excellent!

Pretty fun and a really good take on the limitation, good job!

This one made my brain hurt. In a good way, though! I didn't get very far but it's a super interesting idea and I enjoyed it a lot.

Thank you so much for playing! That was definitely the idea haha (making the brain hurt in a good way)
