super interesting concept and use of the assets plus the emotional impact of your forest burning down is no joke! great work.

Very nice concept. I like the artstyle you used.

I think the separation between the terrain and the black void is a bit too strong tho, maybe a moving background with some decoration instead of a black void would have helped? Just an Idea.

Love the mechanic of the rocks extinguishing the fire, really nice idea!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words. I agree that the foreground and bg aren't distinct enough. Your idea of "moving" the background would have added a lot of depth, I like that.

If I had more time, I would have liked to add some depth to the terrain ... make it look like a floating island of some sort :)

Beautifully done :)

Thanks Chris!

Very unique idea! The animations and gameplay flowed so well. A good amount of challenging without being frustrating. I found it immensely calming.. even when all the trees were on fire :)

Developer

Thanks Hank! I mean ... if I can make fires calming ... I can do anything! ;D

Love this game! Love the aesthetics, and like how well the spawning mechanic of the trees that seem sporadic is actually grid based. Well done on that.

Beautiful. I'm pretty certain I was rolling all 20s.

Super clean. I'll be taking inspiration from you in the future when I'm defining goals and verbs in gameplay. Thanks for a fun few minutes and what will be many more fun minutes of thinking about the themes and mechanics at play here.

There's elegance in the mechanics of a different sort here, and one that I'm not used to thinking in terms of. I'd love to see how your mind works to be able to roll with an idea like this :)

Great work!

Developer

Thanks Roey_Shap, I appreciate your kind words.

Wonderful aesthetic of growing a forest with the tree sprites and the increasing birdsong. Having the main menu be playable was great and I enjoyed the puzzle elements of the fire and burnable obstacles :)

Thanks <3

This was a very peaceful game, I would never have thought of mechanics like this

I like the visuals on this a lot, it's very pretty. I also like how the fire is a danger but also a tool, that's neat. It felt a little odd that the ground just ended with border or anything and that I could move outside the playing area.

Developer

Thanks ntoheuns, glad you enjoyed it.

Nice observation on the level borders. Intially I had "hard" borders at the edge of levels that wouldn't let you pass. However, that made the levels feel quite tight. So at the last minute i decided to remove the borders and let you explore outside of the "terrain" without growing trees there. I can see how that comes across as feeling odd.

Thanks for sharing.

Well polished game, a little too easy in my opinion. I dont actually need to use the rocks, I can just run around until the forest is just big enough

Developer

Thanks!

I totally agree with you, I don't think I get the challenge right in this jam, so it felt easy for me too.

pretty cool i like how the rocks have multiple purposes like to put out fire and then destroy dead trees, but i have a hard time seeing how did you use the assets provided in the jam.

Developer

Thanks GrateMate!

It's cool you notcied the multi-rock use. Ideally I wanted it so that rocks are hurtful initially because they destroy your forest ... but they become helpful eventually because they stop fires.

For the assets, I've used a tree, grass and fire sprites as particles systems. The colour palette is copied from the asset pack.
