This one surprised me! The main mechanic of pushing the maze itself around like a Rubik’s cube was really fun and original, and it felt super good to do too. I’d love to see a bigger puzzle game with something like this.

Great! I remember playing the labyrinth board game as a kid. Not much to add.
Maybe it got a little too simple when enemies were static. Maybe if you have an enemy that can move around tiles, or two player mode.
Some enemies that patrol, or ghosts that can walk through walls, or bats that fly and aren't affected by the tiles movement.
Woah, really great concept! I'd like to see this expanded on. Great job!
Super clever concept, was pleasantly surprised the first time the entire board smoothly shifted in response to my move. Lots of fun planning moves in advance.
Lovely concept! It reminds me of the boardgame Labyrinth (https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1219/labyrinth)
My first run I had it pretty easy. No encounters with any scorpions and could just win easily. So I was thinking about commenting about that.
But then my second run I trapped myself in a corner with a scorpion lurking around the corner - no way out. So I smiled.
And my third run I was swapping tiles like a mad man ... until a tile from the other side moved above me, with a scorpion that instantly killed me. With even a bigger smile as a result.
So very well made, love the game. Could use some more variation, maybe add some tutorial levels where you explain the pushing mechanic and then the enemy movement etc.
But overall great work!
This game concept is great, I would love to combine it with some liquid cellular automata spreading around the maze. Also adding a stand in some rooms who are the only ones you can move to add a bit of restriction to the challenge.
Is it okay to recreate and modify this concept in one of my games ?
I should be able to recreate it without copying your code but thank you very much ! I'll send you anything I do with this idea. I saw a rubiks cube yesterday and thought about your concept again. What is you don't move the line by one room but like a rubiks cube, 3 rooms "turns" at the same time. It's pretty much the same thing but as a cube. I don't know if I should make it in 3D either because you wouldn't be able to see on the side of the cube. Too be honnest, it's a weird idea but maybe ... (Inside a cube might work)
This was a really cool mechanic to play! Like others have said, it's got immediate replay value from the random generation. And, its randomness doesn't create "unsolvable" scenarios like other random generation might. The puzzles were not too easy, but they weren't so frustrating that they were boring.
I have a few suggestions for additions, if you are interested!
- The scorpions are pretty forgiving (they only move a single space), so you could add different enemy types with different motion! You could also color the enemies differently to stand out from the walls.
- Another way I thought you could add definition to the level was outlining the wall blocks. It would make them stand out against the floor that is the same color.
Wow that was aMAZEing, very fun to play and a really nice puzzle mechanic, the randomised board made it interesting to replay. definitely one of the most unique games in the jam so really good job on that and it was fun to play, nicely done.
Ohhh this is so cool. This reminded me of a board game I used to play 20 years ago. It seems very simple but random mazes is just fantastic to have in a jam game. Very fun!
As another comment said, it reminds me of an old board game Ravensburger's "Labyrinth". One thing I wish it had, to add intrinsic motivation, would be a "move counter" so you can measure how many shuffles you've done. Also the scorpions being live action when it feels as though they should be turn based as well. Loved the game very much! Thank you for making it, friend!
Really interesting concept - love the idea of this game. The concept alone is so brilliant that I had to make sure I beat a few levels, just to prove to myself I'm "smart" enough to do it haha!
I would love to see a full puzzle game with hand-crafted levels using this concept, I think that would be a super successful puzzle game.
Great work on this!
Neat concept! Some more sound effects and music would really make this a fun puzzler game. Random generation is also very nice touch. Good job!
