This is a cool idea. I didn't get it at first, but it turns out first person is quite useful when something goes behind a building. Go figure
o_O
Welp this game for sure is creative. I can't say I really like the mechanic and the overall gameplay, but nonetheless, it is very well made and I haven't seen anything like that pretty much in my entire life, not just on this jam.
It looks good, especially the perspective shift. But the shift feels a little useless at the moment, as it's much easier to shoot in the top-down perspective. maybe make it so that the player can only shoot in the 3d perspective, and use the top-down perspective to spot new victims across the map.
Have to say also that it felt a little weird to just kill innocent commoners...
thanks for the feedback! yeah, balancing between the 2d and 3d is a bit tough. The main observation I had was that there are different blindspots in both the 3d and 2d view, so you'd have to switch to cover the full area.
And yeah, perhaps the setting / motivation in this game is not best lol
Great idea with the perspective shift. It took this idea to the next level. And you really pulled off the shift without a lot of disruption to the player. Nicely done!
really well executed idea with lots of polish. the perspective change feels very well done. I felt like the mechanic could better suit a puzzle game, where the player could be forced to change perspective to proceed, as i didn't feel like there was a real benefit to one view over the other
Thanks! I was thinking about making it a puzzle / adventure game (like switching between Link to the Past Zelda and 3D zelda), but it was hard for me to think of meaningful puzzles that would require switching. I may try make another puzzle prototype with this mechanic though !
making puzzle games blows my mind, i've no idea how to go about doing it! but it would make an interesting mechanic if the different views literally give you a different perspective on how to solve the puzzle. I'd play it!
The perspective shift not only looked great, but actually served as a useful game mechanic! Everything felt solid and enjoyable! Good work! :D
Thanks! Much appreciated! I tried my best to tie in a reason to switch between the two perspectives.
The switch view mechanic is so good!
I was actually having the same kind of idea at the start of the jam, the changing perspective felt really smooth in this game, and I think you nailed it. Some more polishing, some more interactions, some tweaking (e.g. changing the colour palette of the game) would've made this game more engaging, but overall the game is good.
Clever concept perspective changing! I like it
Wow, the switching perspective animation is great!
I love that each perspective has its own blindspots.
I would love to see a LAN multiplayer for parties!
I felt like a right murderer, those poor green folk! The switching view mechanic was well done though, great job!
Hmmm… This looks familiar…
(Look at my game for context)
This was pretty fun, although in concept it is lacking. The switching mechanic was far more polished than mine, and the 3d voxel enemies were a nice touch aswell. The only reason I complain is the lack of actual content that would make for better replayability, with potentially more enemies, levels, weapons, and more. Good job!
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I would like to have added more content but I ran out of time :( . Too much voxel modelling and AI tweaking, not enough content. What I thought was interesting about the the top-down perspective and the first person perspective is that they each have their own blindspots, so I tried to play to that consequence as much as possible in this game / demo.
Wow! Love the perspective switching mechanic. Great idea to have the buildings blocking parts of the view to only be seen when in first person. Only thing I could ask for is more levels!
haha thanks! glad you enjoyed it!
And yeah I spent too much time on the mechanic itself and didn't have enough time to get to level design / balance. I'll try to keep updating this with a post jam version, however.
Cool, would love to see some new weapons as well!
