Nice aesthetic style, really stands out a lot. I especially liked the designs and the colour scheme.
The story and mystery were good. The puzzles were varied and interesting.
A custom mouse cursor would have been nice.
Some sound effects would make a good addition.
The subtitle fonts could have been better. Also, was the voice over altered in some way. I thought it sounded as if it had been slowed down, no offence if that's just how your voice sounds.
Thank you for the feedback!
We had a design for mouse cursor, but it was last minute update and it didn't work properly. Will add it later in the updated version of the game!
And regarding the voiceover - it is what we struggled with the most :) Right now it is an altered version of my voice, buuut the program made a weird change a female pitch to a male one, so it sounds a bit slow and unnatural. Hope it wasn't a big distraction. We will look into some more user friendly ways of creating a voiceover :D
Really neat! I love the story-book art-style and your choice of colors was great too. Definitely was not expecting the ending as well. I'll admit, the puzzles took me quite a bit of time. I don't know why but the chemistry book just wasn't clicking for me for quite some time. It also took me a minute to find the last foghorn combination but that was because I was expecting to have to pick up the picture I just finished again. I really liked the picture puzzles too, very unique shapes and just enough hints in the artwork to get you started in a direction.
Thank you so much :)
We planned to add some visual effects and additional hints for changes that happen throughout the game (like the last foghorn comb), so it would be easier to notice them and understand why they happen, but ran out of time. We will try to update the game after the game jam ends!
It was a very nice experience! Loved your art! The horn mechanics were well done. It felt like operating a complicated machine while actually being simple to understand with the notes and hints. I have spent more time than planned playing with the harmonica, trying to create other music besides the one needed, haha. So, good job with that—it was well done!
I agree with SoulSplitter's feedback on the sounds and inventory. I would also add that I would have liked more "hints" foreshadowing the final twist. Nevertheless, I liked the story you crafted.
Good work! Bravo.
Yay, I am happy that you enjoyed horn and harmonica mechanics!
Totally agree with you on 'hints' — we are planning to make the story more detailed and coherent in the future (hopefully, nearest future xD). Thank you for playing our game :)
Having played all the games in the jam and commented on those where I had something constructive to say, I spent Sunday playing a few games with my niece, translating the words and solving the most complex puzzles because she is still 5 years old. She chose to play this game herself to play, and keeping my promise to "deliver the game unboxing for you gain subscribers", here’s what my niece wanted me to comment: "Everything is very beautiful, but it needs more fuchsia. If they don’t have a fuchsia pencil, I’ll lend them mine. Can you ask if they need it? Tell them to draw more fuchsia! Lots of kisses! Leave a like to help"
That is very sweet of you and your niece, thank you <3 We will make sure we use enough fuchsia pencil in the future!
You have a spark when it comes to art-style - with the consistent color palette, simple but distinct shape profiles, and the lovely smattering of textures! It's so appealing!
Although, I did get stuck at the very first point where I am meant to operate the foghorn correctly! (the C, 6, up one) . I'll keep at it.
Thank you very much!
It may be clear if the lever and the wheel in their right positions, sorry about that! Just make sure you set it up to C and Up (left and it is initial position) and it should work right :)
Okayyy, I shall try again!
I did try again, and wow, it was so enjoyable!
In some ways, this is my kind of game; point-and-click narrative peppered with plenty of puzzles! Your group made the jigsaw work! I have wondered about the coding that goes behind it - good job! The idea of humanizing the spirits was a good touch, you have created quite an imaginative world, here! The unusual color palette with the 'pop' colors come across as so authentic too.
I think you have already realized, but a little more feedback will go a long way. Some kind of sound or visual effect indicating when I am doing things right. Also, the inventory system seems a little buggy, sometimes it is not quick to respond. Also, once I unlocked the music piece, it seemed like I had no way to reference it again? Next time, I took a screenshot!
But oh, I love love loved the harmonica!
But alas, I did get stuck again, the UI does not seem to be responding while I'm trying to make anti-fire in the beaker! But I'm glad I played this far - this is a sparkling, immersive game; feels like just the right amount of challenging!
Thank you for giving it another try, for your kind words and your detailed feedback, it really helps!
We did not manage to implement everything we wanted, like there are a lot of missing reactions and polishing, but we are planning to, right after the end of the jam :)
The thing with beaker - I think we created a little confusing situation, especially because there are no indication if you are doing things the right way. The idea was that you need to find three things (two in the kitchen, one in dining), look up recipe in the book in the kitchen, place these 3 things (soap, soda and vinegar) in the beaker scene and only after that it will become accessible to solve that puzzle. Oil and perfume can also be picked up, but they are not used anywhere (at the moment).
And regarding music piece - it should be accessible every time you click on bedroom drawer (after unlocking it), we will also make it more clear in the future.
Thank you again for taking your time playing our game :)
Ah yes, I was pretty sure you were already aware of the things that needed polishing - and I completely understand the time constraints, whatever I was able to see...the efforts really show! Really shows.
Ahh I did reach that part! I was able to figure out the proportions (or I think I was) from that chemistry book for kids, picked up all items (and yes, was confused that the oil and perfume were also there, I understand it might make more sense in the future version) , clicked on the beaker, clicked on the ingredients from the inventory - everything looked set, except I just could not figure out how to proceed after that. Clicking on the ingredients or the UI button did not seem to do anything? I wonder if I missed something obvious!!
Ahh maybe I missed something with regard to the music-piece too! And I would love to play the completed version once updated - the narrative is like an interesting mixture of whimsy and mystery!
Here is a video with example on how to interact with this puzzle:
You have to drag-and-drop the ingredients to the beaker. Numbers below indicate how many times each ingredient was added. If you added the right amount of each, click the "mix/empty button" and the puzzle will be solved ( I did not show the solution in the video, so i won't spoil the puzzle 😄). If amount is not right, the beaker will be emptied.
We will polish the UX and add more effects after the game jam, so it will be clear how to do everything correctly :D Thanks once again for your patience and devotion to our game, it really means a lot!
And that is my response to that! It was so lovely...that contrast between the way things used to be and the way it is now...and the music in the background really suited it too...I'd love to know how this story unfolds! This game has a lot of soul, a lot of it - well done!
