While I haven't delved much into the world of Age of Fantasy, I still was able to enjoy the showcase of the more grimdark themes within, the vagueness of why these people are committed to the extra violence and the sabotaging of great work evokes the idea that there's no actual reason for the violence, or at least no actual reason beyond violence for the sake of it.
A fun read that is let down by the ending. To have two "you know what you did"s turns intrigue into confusion. The harlequin sections were particularly flavorful.
Thank you for the feedback. The intention was ambiguity about which event came first, to give the impression that this is part of a cycle of revenge attacks, so it's important to know whether that was actually conveyed well enough to pick up.
Definitely a challenge to get that across in a flashfic. I didn't catch all of that on the first read but still enjoyed it immensely!
This is defintely one of the highlights of the jam! The banter between Tristano and Zanni was fun, and the two intertwining narratives that finally get tied together at the end went from "neat" to "extremely impressive" because of how well you fit them into the word count/space restrictions with only a slightly rushed feeling.
It's very impressive how you managed to weave two related narratives into one. There's a definite sense of a larger world of academic politics & warfare here, and I wish I had just a little more context behind it all. But alas, the word limit. And what you did deliver was excellent. Very enjoyable to read! Very fitting for the Duchies.
Theme wasn't clear until the very, very end but it was definitely there, & pretty satisfying. Very well done!
Grim and brutal! In war, there are no winners.
