Description
This vibrant track tells a story with full orchestra, epic percussion, and live vocal and tin whistle performances! I decided to "go big or go home," so instead of making a bunch of smaller-scale tracks, I wrote only one-- pushing myself to my limit as a composer.
After sketching out my ideas, I iterated through orchestrating, tidying up, improving transitions, and finally, recording. I recorded the whistle parts, and ALL of the choir parts, which took forever but was absolutely worth it.
I use Reaper for my DAW, putting me in something of a minority among my other composer friends. I love it, though!

Had a ton of fun putting together! Hope you enjoy!
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
I feel like the word "runaway" fits the picture pretty well, so that helped guide my creative process. I chose a key signature and made instrumentation choices that matched the vibrant colors and lush details of the picture with musical equivalents. When coming up with ideas, I had the picture open as well, helping my brain stay in "scoring mode" like it is during film scoring. The piece travels through quiet, lonely soloistic sections, energetic and lush regions, and takes the pace up a notch to a bombastic climax. This journey is the one I imagined for the figure in the picture.
As far as the thematic idea of the word "runaway," my track takes the listener on an energetic but also somber journey, with both flashes of beauty and undertones of regret. When you run away from something (or somewhere), it might lead you to a new place of beauty and harmony, but you might still feel a twinge of mournful regret at what you left behind. I used the minor tonality and darker sounding sections of my piece to convey these emotional ideas. Again, the photo and word are closely tied, so I did my best to take these ideas and tell a story with the incredible emotional power of music!

Wow. This was breathtaking. That choir. majestic and beautiful, then that flute melody. Stunning composition! I'm so glad I stumbled upon this in time! I'd love to hear this in an open world RPG. Epic!
What sample libraries do you use? These vocals sound awesome. (EDIT. Just learned that you recorded these. My mind is blown!)
Thanks for the encouragement! I mostly use Cinematic Studio Series, with a few other random libraries as well. I wish I had more time to listen to more submissions, because there's some incredible stuff!
This is quite epic indeed. I appreciate all the work that you put into this, and the end product is really great. The live tin whistle is really cool even if it's out of tune sometimes, it's a very unique sound for a prominent melodic instrument. Great job!
Thanks for listening!
Very oriental and Epic, nice arrangement and orchestrations, even added some detuning from time to time, little small interesting details. nicely done.
Thanks! I'm glad the detuned spots can be considered a creative choice...
Oh boy this was great! You definitely "went big" on this one. The pacing, the progression, the orchestration, the instruments... everything created this sense of journey and progressed to something truly beautifully executed. This was spot on, great job! 👏
Thanks for listening!
I love it. Beautiful melodic phrases!
Thanks! This one was very melody-driven for sure!
Wow. This is beautiful. There were quite some frisson moments in here. The beautiful flute and choirs really stood out to me.
Amazing how you manage to make them blossom during the peaks and shine in the valleys. So much expression.
Incredible work.
Thanks for noticing the little details, I appreciate it!
Extra points in my book for using live instruments and recording all the choir parts! As someone who loves to do similar stuff, I am impressed :)
Really lovely patches used here as well!
This definitely captures the quintessential cinematic feel of a dramatic movie trailer.
Lovely, intimate moment at the end with the choir-- this is something quite unique that I haven't yet heard in this jam.
In all, great job showcasing your other talents, it was an enjoyable track! Keep writing!
Thanks so much!
You really did push yourself as a composer, this sounds so nice I actually got chills! I'm a fan of cinematic/epic orchestral music so that's why.
Thank you! I'm also a fan... although you can probably see that :)
Stunning music! Love the live tracked instruments and voices. Great composition and orchestration
Thanks, I had a ton of fun adding the live elements!
Wonderful. Worth of a film scoring as well.
Thanks! Film scores are a huge influence for me
Wow, beautiful...I'm stunned.
You really went big !!
Haha it's definitely big, thanks!
