Description
I constructed an idea of a cute little puzzle/strategy game involving different eras of human history. Each track represents its own level and time period, so I would write at track that fit the time period (though I'm not going as much for perfect music theory accuracy as I am character, orchestration, and style...please don't tell my music teachers). Each track is based off of the motifs of the main theme to tie them together. They were made in ProTools primarily with Kontakt and Omnisphere (a few samples are my own).

Message from the artist:
Hi guys!! Thanks for taking the time to listen. I love constructive feedback and I also love listening to all of your amazing work! I feel like I learn so much from other composers when I do things like these, both by hearing their super cool music and seeing their thoughts. I hope you enjoy and lots of love to all of you wonderful people!

Theme:

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The character time travels to different time periods in order to solve quick and fun puzzles. Each level, the player gets to hop along the timeline of history until they arrive to their final level...the future!

Nice work! I like how the themes still feel connected despite having completely different styles

Yay!! That was my main goal overall. Thank you for listening and commenting. I definitely appreciate it!

I think that the music would fit the described game really well... Each every one of them is original, fitting to the time period while still being connected together by the theme. Very nice work! :)

Thank you very much! And thanks for taking the time to listen. Much appreciated!

Hello once again fellow duck! Good to see you in a jam once again. :)

Started up without reading the title at first, and the first track being a opening theme welcoming me into the game was definitely my first thought here though, love the use of percussion, simple, but complements this upbeat track very well.

I liked the mix of eras, there's a clear distinction, and the tracks, with artistic choices and all, captured these eras very well!

"An Era Of European Enlightenment" is my favorite, I love the instrumentation and how the music dances around, it's good ol' ball going on, and I am all here for it.

If I understood it correctly, these puzzles are not timed? So the theme revolves more around time travelling? I really like your take on the theme, it's different in the good of ways!

Perhaps some of the tracks can feel a little bit too busy for a puzzle game, where you might want something quite minimalistic to leave the brain undistracted. Though since you mention "quick and fun" puzzles, I imagine this isn't a Myst level of puzzles, and more something with just enough challenge to be rewarding, but not enough to make you stuck and grind your gears for hours. So I'd say, in that case, your playful style definitely does the job. Really nice work!

Ahhhh oh my goodness!! I was looking for you earlier while making my way through submissions. So glad to once again run into fellow waterfowl composer! I appreciate your thoughts and can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with. Quack quack quack!! 🦆

Opening Theme: This is a fun and playful theme. I like how the chord progression drives it forward. Each part of the song has a different feel which is an example of great story-telling even in a single track. The piano-prominent and upbeat sound reminds me a lot of the soundtrack from Kirby’s Epic Yarn.

The Ancient Worlds: The drums in this one are awesome. This and the solo flute gives this a very exotic sound.

The European Enlightenment: Great representation of the era with harpsichord and strings. I like and appreciate that you trusted your gut with the character and feel of the piece rather than relying too heavily on technical or historically accurate details, because in the end you were able to get the idea across and I wouldn’t have known either way!

The Rise of the American Big Band: I love the way the brass all work together in this one. The muted trumpet is my favorite!

Into the Future: Very nice future sound! This is reminiscent of Sonic and Kirby combined in my mind. Overall, I think you did a great job taking an interesting theme and changing it to many different styles to give a sense that we are time traveling. This is very clever and a fun OST to listen to. Great work and thank you for sharing!

Thanks so much for your thoughts! I love that you got a Kirby vibe from some of it. Appreciate you taking the time to listen!

The textural variety in this entry is for me the strongest thing about it. Nearly every song gives us multiple wildly differing tonal palettes, which is good, we're never bored as listeners. There are large sections of each piece dominated by a lead instrument with all its notes at identical velocity, which makes me feel a little bit like I'm trying to eat fifteen identical pancakes (?) so I would keep an eye on the dynamics of your lead instrument and maybe give us some more variation there. Overall I think it works as an accompaniment to a puzzler, so well done.

Appreciate the advice! My personal key touch has always been kind of static and heavy admittedly, so I can definitely see what you mean by that. I’ll keep an ear on that in the future. Thanks for listening!!

Loved your concept of having different levels and theme songs for different eras! "The Rise of the American Big Band" was my favourite!

The initial simplicity of the starting theme and how it builds was really nice, and the future theme has a really nice soundscape and composition. To me, these two stod out from the rest, that are more "standard" but convey a fewl of chaos and stress - perfect for a game with time limits and puzzles to Solveig as you say.

Developer

Thanks!! I feel the same way. I’m glad you liked them!
