Description
Chrono Blitz OST is a hybrid orchestral soundtrack for a racing game, where you have to complete races in the form of time trials, on the streets of the metropolis, and in the dangerous, foreboding canyons. This soundtrack takes inspiration from the Need For Speed Carbon by Trevor Morris.

Mark used to be the king of the streets, faster than anyone, he had won it all. Eventually, he left it all behind to live a more quiet life.

One day however, his racing days caught up with him, and the authorities got a hold of him, and ripped all his illegal racing money away from him, leaving him with next to nothing, for the price of his freedom. To make matters worse, Mark would eventually contact a deadly sickness, that would take his life if left uncured.

Mark started looking for a way to earn money, and quick, to pay for the medical bills that will safe his life. He looked with his former contacts in the underground street racing community, who were reluctant to help the retired racer at first. But after finding out how dire the situation was, they folded.

They lent Mark a car, and told him about the Chrono Blitz. A series of time trials, that were too dangerous, and too difficult for anyone but the most seasoned street racer. Mark didn't ask any questions about the mortality rate of these trials, as in his state, it mattered little.

And so he set out, to conquer the streets once again, but also face new challenges in the great canyons. The question loomed; What will take Mark's life first? The sickness or the Chrono Blitz?

Message from the artist:
I wanted to make a lot more tracks, but life has a tendency to get in the way, as we all know. Thus this is probably my least ambitious submission to date, but I am very glad I made it!

Theme:

Tick Tock...

How does it fit the theme?
Chrono Blitz is a game where you have to complete dangerous time trial races. The Protagonists time is running out, so there's a sense of time loss outside the actual racing as well, that motivates the races in the first place. There's a lot of stress and tension, with danger always near, and I aimed to capture that in my tracks. That said, I also wanted the tracks to feel strong and encouraging at times, because until the race is lost, nothing is over, and I want the players to have that push.

To start, I really like the game title, cover art, and backstory you gave it. The idea that Mark has nothing to lose, so he's willing to try anything is a really cool concept! Also I love the wheel being the clock in the cover art, it adds to that time's running out feeling! The tracks themselves have some really cool ideas and are really professional sounding. I think my personal favorite in Canyon Race, I really like the flute sounds and the desert vibe of the song, it gives it a sort of Uncharted 3 vibe that I really love! A Race Against Time is also really good; it sounds straight out of a movie chase scene. Great stuff!

Developer

I am not the best artist, but I did actually try a little this time, so I am happy to see you mention it. :D Thank you so much for listening and rating!

Dude, nice stuff!! The pacing of both of the tracks was very strong. The melodic motifs of the first came in just at the right time, and each musical turn around felt called for. The second one does a very good job setting a specific scene (win for jiggy exotic cave flute). The mood remained the same though throughout each, along with the urgency to finish, which I guess is appropriate for racing tracks. Hope Mark can catch a break! Fantastic job! Quack! :)

Developer

Yes, Mark isn't having the best of times, unfortunately. :( I am glad you finally found and visited my submission. Always appreciate your feedback!

Quack! :D

Very impressive! Great themes of pursuit or chase!

Developer

Thank you, and good work yourself! Since I saw you mention MoH, and your submission in the RMX jam (a jam I didn't participate in), I have listened to your submission of that, lovely, and I love the soundtrack for that game and for it's sister console version (frontline).

Very tense stuff, kind of gives me MGS vibes. Great hybrid orchestral, I'm loving these sfx. Second track has some really unique exotic sound choices that fit great into hybrid orchestral. Love that flute.

Great work!

Developer

MGS vibes are never bad! Unless it's S stands for Survive instead of Solid... although, that might have a good soundtrack still, haven't actually listened to it. :o Regardless, thanks for listening and rating!

Wow, what a ride! Tension buildup is great! Makes me remember music for some of the levels from UT2004...

Overall very well mixed, with great sound quality!

Developer

Thank you very much, I checked out the UT2004 soundtrack, I can def find some similarities. :)

Wow, this was intense!! Fantastic sound design, attention to detail, and heart-pumping beats throughout your tracks. Poignant backstory behind your music, too - you can just FEEL the high stakes when you listen to it. Wonderful work!

Developer

Thank you for listening and rating! :D

The quality is very good in my opinion! Great mixing on these two tracks.

I imagined hearing motors and tires sequels and it was great!

The first track felt almost fitting to a futuristic punk genre world. I loved that kind of flute on the second track it gives it a exotic taste 👌

Developer

Thank you very much, happy to have improved in the quality department as of late!

Since it's been mentioned a bit *scribbles*, more flute in future tracks.

A Race Against Time: The sound design in this is epic. There is so much suspense! This definitely would get my heart racing if it was playing in the background of a game. This is definitely a great racing backing track.

Canyon Race: This is my favorite of your two tracks. I really like the percussion you use in this one. This track has a very cinematic quality, but it also sounds like it would fit in well with other games in the genre you are writing for. I think the atonal flute is a nice touch that makes it feel even more like we’re in a canyon. Overall I hope you flesh this OST out and make more tracks because you are going in a very good direction with these! Great work and thank you for sharing!

Developer

Thank you Lava! (: I probably wanted a Fue in there for the wind in the second track, but alas, I don't have any, so I used the bone flute sample from Medieval Legends. ;) It worked out all the same!

Congrats for almost winning again, you're on a roll!

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! everything was mixed so tightly, the composition was fresh and exciting, and the instrumentation was beautiful! i hope that one of your tracks makes it into the final album, they deserve to be there :)))))

Developer

Wow, thanks a lot! :D The final album, hmmm, it could be very tight this time around, the numbers of submissions that make it in vary, but I'll be happy regardless!

Also congratulations on #6, Chrono Fiend might be my favorite track of the jam, keep making the good stuff! (:

I really like this take on the theme and your tracks fit perfectly! Great compositions, I'm impressed by how complex they are while still being pleasant to listen to. Awesome stuff.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much. :) I hope to be able to add even more elements to the mix in the future!

Really nice epic style of music that I am all for! Great variations and also great use of instrumentation makes the tracks very listenable. Well done!

Developer

Thanks for listening and rating!

The tempo changes in both tracks were such a great choice! The poco a poco changes in the first track and the more pronounced tempo changes in the second - both great. Overall sonic quality of this is out of this world - amazing work.

Developer

Thank you for listening! I had hoped to finally get juicy score in quality, so mission accomplished!

I would think the drums were made with the Sonivox "Big Bang Cinematic Drums" Libraries, are they?  Great job!

Developer(+1)

Percussion used in this are a mix from Spitfire Hammers, Zero.G Elements and cinesamples cineperc actually. :) Quite frankly very varying percussion libraries in terms of style and tone, elements not being a strict percussion library at all ofc.

Thanks for listening and rating!

Submitted(+1)

Awesome! I use different ones too, I own a lot of cinesamples products, but not the percussions.

I used Big Bang Cinematic Drums in my submission and I think some of your drums sound similar (most likely because the actual drums the sample in the Studios are pretty similar).

Nevertheless it's awesome, regardless of what library you used :D

Developer(+1)

Had to snag cineperc! it was basically 90% off due to a store glitch during a sale. It really pays keeping track of sales on the VI-Control forums, highly recommended.

And yes, it comes down to how you use the libraries you got, at the end of the day. (: Ever learning!

The amount of details, the composition, the variation in the groove makes it an absolute treat to listen to. This is amazing and super creative as always. I loved the flutes in your second track in particular! Keep up the great work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot Gornemant! Apparently it wasn't THAT creative this time around, but I am happy regardless that the type of track I wanted to do in my head, ended up being so close to what I imagined.

Also, big congrats to the top 10 finish, fantastic work as always! :)

Wow, so many epic sounds! Controlled chaos. Impressed at how well all those different samples blend together. Took me off guard because the album art made me expect something less intense. Thanks for making and sharing.

Developer(+1)

I wanted to add cool effects to the car, but I am not the best artist sadly! :D Thank you, I was unsure how well I'd do in terms of capturing the style I wanted to go for here, according to my inspiration, but I am really happy how it turned out. (:

Very cinematic, appreciate all the risers and sfx that went into this as well as the orchestral elements
