Description
the idea of autologia is a coming-of-age journey the protagonist takes within themselves. to truly become an adult, they have to undergo a journey within the vast expanses of their own mind to really know and accept every part of it. it would be a metroidvania where the big cavernous environment was the main character's own mind. i primarily used bitwig, though i also worked out some melodies in my little composition score notebook.

"self-love" is the game's title theme. i wrote this initially as a response to the jam's "inside my mind" theme; it brings to mind something reflective and sweet for me. this came before the actual idea for autologia - i imagine the game would get quite intense with themes of self-acceptance and mental health challenges at times, so this as the opening screen theme encourages the player into hopeful spirit when booting up the game.

"on my mind" is an area exploration theme, that represents something complicated you are mulling over. the bassline is of course where i started, as i often do, by fiddling at my clavinova keyboard. in this track i decided the piano would be a consistent throughline in the soundtrack to represent the main character.

"shadow boxing" is a boss theme. i see it maybe being against a manifestation of anxiety, hence the slightly unsettlingly detuned pulsing synth backing riff/ostinato.

"shrine of shared strength" is a theme for peaceful safe places, a bit like hollow knight's bench theme? the idea in-universe is that the big journey inside yourself mostly has to be done by yourself, but at scattered places in the world-mind you can seek aid and guidance from your loved ones in the world-outside. the harp and the different key represent the influence of your loved ones, and then the piano echoes the harp phrase as you internalise their messages of support.

Message from the artist
i really hope you like it! this was my first OST jam and i certainly plan to join more in future, it's been very enjoyable!

You have a great sense of musicality and how to create melodies that are memorable♥

Interesting thoughts, interesting tracks and interesting emotions....

shadow boxing - Definitely my favorite. It's a combination of chiptune “cuteness”, calm synthesizers, orchestral instruments and guitar... GRR! Awesome! Sounds epic. The other tracks set the tone of the soundtrack well too

Thanks!

self love - reel in the listener instantly, does remind me of those slow times where I would spend time with myself and try to grind even though it wasn't the best of times.

on my mind - the initial melody in the track does give the track a feeling of contemplation, but then as the lead synth hits it definitely reels my attention back to the song and gives me something to think about after I am back into contemplation

shadow boxing - great segue into this song after on my mind because after the contemplation I am fighting myself and the lead synth used here is the same, and the other melody for the shadow makes me feel like I am in a western cowboy movie for just a second and then there is a anime title theme vibe with which the song ends but the battle clearly hasn't ended, love it

shrine of shared strength - after the tiredness of these battles with myself I definitely feel like this is a rest stop I am at and the best thing to do at this moment is take it easy.

Loved the work ! Shadow boxing was my favorite and I loved how the transition from on my mind to shadow boxing worked, and how all the works come together as a whole. I definitely see this being used in a 16 bit adventure game where the final boss we have to fight is a shadow version of ourselves. Great job !

I enjoyed a lot listening to this one. The music expresses strong feelings and reflects that you put a lot of love into your work. I think it's a very coherent OST in its entirety, and the songs relate really well to your game idea. My favorite song was "shadow boxing", it's a great boss theme. Very good work!

Nice soundtrack! I especially like "on my mind"- it's super catchy while also being mysterious and thoughtful. It's cool how much you've thought out what the different instruments represent in the game's story. Great job!
