Description
The Soundtrack is an 8-bit NES-era action game soundtrack. I tried to make it as authentic as possible. It was made using Famistudio, which is kind of a halfway point between a normal DAW and Famitracker. The soundtrack utilizes two DCPM samples from the BVKER Aesthetic Vaporwave Drum Set. Everything else is just fancy beeps.

Track 1 - TITLE SCREEN - For this track I picture a briefly shown picture of the hero character flying and preparing to fire a huge beam cannon. When he fires there is an explosion sound and the screen goes white and the title screen is displayed (black background, chrome font?)

Track 2 - TRINOTRON ATTACKS - Like many games, the first stage theme serves as the hero character's theme. It shares a melody with the Title Screen theme and shows up in the final notes of the Ending Theme.

Track 3 - ENEMY TARGET - This is just a simple metal guitar-style loop for use when fighting the stage bosses. The song at the end is the stage victory song.

Track 4 - ENROUTE TO OBJECTIVE - Some levels have a top-down shooting stage between levels as Trinotron flies to his next objective. This melody is also used for the Ending Theme.

Track 5 - CORRIDOR ASSAULT - This level is a large linear corridor in which Trinotron blasts through enemy barricades. It is used in multiple levels.

Track 6 - METALMAN FACTORY - This stage is a factory with conveyer belts, hydraulic presses that try to crush you, flames that try to burn you, etc. During this level, metal soldiers are assembled and attack you right off the assembly line! The noise channel "Marching" sound was supposed to represent both the rhythmic machines and the marching of the metal soldiers.

Track 7 - BIOCHEMICAL PLANT - In this stage you fight through a maze of acid vats and cybernetic/organic enemies.

Track 8 - COMPUTER CORE - The final level. At the beginning of this song the stage victory theme is incorporated as kind of a "Good job getting this far" message to the player.

Track 9 - CYBER COMMANDER - Like the Enemy Target theme, this is pretty much just a loop, it goes a little harder than the previous one in my opinion which is fitting as it is the final boss theme. The Victory Theme plays once again at its end.

Track 10 - MISSION COMPLETE - Trinotron has defeated the Cyber Commander and is now deciding what to do with his life. Should he defend the ruins of Earth forever? Should he self destruct? Should he try to rebuild the planet and recreate life? Or should he fly into space and find a new world to defend, or a new enemy to attack? Perhaps there are different endings based on actions taken during the game, or by the difficulty level? This track is a different version of the Enroute to Objective theme, and uses some of Trinotron's theme from Stage 1/Title Screen as well.

Track 11 - MISSION FAILURE - The screen all 80s kids dreaded. GAME OVER. Do you hit Continue, or End?

Message from the artist
Many thanks to Lone Rabbit for hosting this Game Jam. This is my first year making music, and my second game soundtrack ever! Making it was very fun and very educational.

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
A subterranean enemy robot base is INSIDE MY WORLD and I HAVE TO DESTROY IT.

Jokes aside, Trinotron's story could take it a few ways. For one, the suit cannot be removed and in a way the inside of the Trinotron suit is now this unnamed man's world. He has resigned himself to a desperate suicide mission, meaning his entire world (outside and inside his mind) is one of violence and revenge. As the last of the human race, he also sees the Earth as "His World" alone, and aside from avenging it, he sees himself as still defending it, much like one might defend the grave of someone important.

Some imagined endings see him defending the wasteland of earth as a silent guardian, or using the robots technology to rebuild and possibly even repopulate it with genetically engineered animals and humans. Other endings have him leaving it behind, subverting the theme (Outside my World?)

On another note, the sounds of the NES are, personally, very much inside my comfort zone, putting them "Inside my World" on a personal level.

wow, this was so good! genuinely dont have any complaints I think your use of this limited form and your ideas around it were so strong, super impressive for the amount of time you have been writing as well. My one piece of feedback is experiment more with how much you can push this, I dont have much experience specifically on fami studio but i know there is an extent that you can really push the sound of notes with bends, vibrato and the like in things like famitracker so see if those options for you exist and how you might consider using them, because it can take this style of music to the next level!

RIDICULOUS! A full credible professional OST in a week of this quality. That is some insane talent, I saw this was your second sountrack?? Just mad props, this is a banger!

This is your second soundtrack? You can't be serious this is so good with a lot of bumping tracks in here! All songs fit snuggly into a retro side-scroller. "ENEMY TARGET" and "CORRIDOR ASSAULT" were my favorites. "MISSION FAILURE" really reminds me of Contra haha.

PS I know you said the cover was based on Super Turrican but the first thing on my mind when I saw it was this:

Amazing soundtrack!!

Very in style. Sound like a real 90's game with refreshing sounds added.

Corridor Assault. This one got me! Melody,  rhythm, everything.

You've got a strong point here, and that are your melodies, very well craft!!

i always like hearing music in this style. hearing whatever people can conjure up with like 3 or 4 instruments only has always been nice. great work here! the standout is either track 1 or track 2 just cause they slap the most imo

I respect the style you chose and instrumental limitations you went with for the this project. Every song uses the main leitmotif well and has very good percussion throughout. My favorite songs were track 2, 6 and 10. Track 2 in particular had a really good melody that I can envision a japanese singer from the 90s singing the chorus to. That track was so catchy!

Overall, very solid submission. Keep it up!

I'm a huge fan with people who uses famistudio, even though I never get how it works when I tried it

I loved the drums and bass that is always present in some of the songs, and how you sometimes utilize the noise channel for either supporting drumbeats and even sfx (the explosion for example is pretty fun). the game over theme is such a nice touch too and I don't see many games make this kind of themes for their imaginary games.

I never even heard of Turrican but I can easily compare it to an early Megaman game, great job.

Wow, you have a wonderful 8-bit styling! I like it! Great for old pixel games)

METALMAN FACTORY and COMPUTER CARE are my favorite) (DRUMS AAAAAAA)

A fellow Famistudio user??!?!? no wayyyyyyyyy

this OST is really good, peak NES energy right here. Love the way you used each channel :)

Fav tracks are Corridor Assualt, Biochemical Plant and Cyber Commander.

As a huge retro VGM fan these are perfectly authentic right down to the octave jumping basslines. Was not expecting an entry like this but its a great one, Kudos! Also, the art looks a lot like the character from Turrican, have you played those games perchance?

Developer(+1)

Yes, the art was designed to be kind of a Super Turrican knockoff, with his awkward pose, weird expression and shiny chrome armor.

That's sick, the Turrican games are so fire!

Very unique entry and very good too! Stands out a lot and it really sounds like it could be from any game on the NES!

Submitted

You really captured that NES style with these tracks. I felt the high energy till the end. Thanks for sharing!

This is a perfect Nintendo soundtrack, I can tell you really thought about how each composition would be used in an actual game. Congratulations on this one.

I was banging my head while listening. Very cool and nostalgic stuff with a verified repertoire of cool bangers! Keep up the good work.

Really made me imagine playing a NES game. My favorite track is BIOCHEMICAL PLANT, I love that melody. Good job!
