Description
Genre: Orchestration/electronic
Game: Worldbuilder/RPG. Cross between Minecraft and Fallout with cinematics akin to Alan Wake 2 ;)
Track by Track:

Waking Up in My Head:

You begin the game as Gordon. After a sressfull week, you look forward to catching some well deserved zzz's. Gordon rests his head against his pillow & drifts off to sleep. The worries of the week behind him & the week ahead of him fade away..slowly...fade...away.......Gordon wakes up in a new worled that is soaked in opportunity He explores; takes in this word & all it has to offer.

Building the Kingdom:

Gordon has lived here a while now. He has roots planted, friends, a small family. He still yearns for more. With the help of the ever-growing poulation, instilled in this world by hi mind, he builds a glorious kingdom for all to enjoy and benefit from.

Trancending the Dream:

With the Kingdom finally content, Gordon is ceremoniously relieved from his duty as king. Gordon floats high above the Kingdom & morphs into pure light & joy.

He awakes from his dream...

DAW: Abelton

I wanted to play around with simple yet emotional orchestrations with an electronic undertone & varying rhythm section. If I was in "Gordon's" shoes, it'd be the type of music I'd want to hear as I build my kingdom.

Hope you enjoy! Had a lot of fun making this ;)

Theme

Inside my world

How does it fit the theme?
The game is about Gordon: a man dreaming himself into another world/existence. He cultivates and harnesses this world, buidling a kingdom for all to enjoy (knowing all too well the struggles life can bring on Earth). After reaching the empyrean in his mind palace, he must return back to himself.

God... this beautiful bass mixed with crazy orchestration...

I feel like you've done crazy ambient, huh)

Developer

Thank you very much!

Great submission. I really liked the drum and percussion programming and especially how this contrasted with the orchestral arrangements. I think Building the Kingdom was my favorite.

Developer

Thanks! Buiding the Kingdom is my favorite too ;)

It begins by a really interesting piece, this rhythm game between the strings and the drum is really cool! Nice glitch and mixing technique in the second track and the third track is really condense all that! Nice submission!

Nice submission overall, the quality and writing are really good so nothing really for me to nitpick on, great job!

Waking Up in My Head: I love those short cello lines. The interplay between all the moving string lines is fun, but the cello sounds the most crisp and is my favorite!

Building the Kingdom: The hi-hat rhythm gives a sense of forward motion or tasks to be completed. The strings underneath give a somewhat somber but then more determined feeling. The pizzicato string section feels a little whimsical. I agree that it would be fun to build a kingdom to this music!

Transcending the Dream: The harmony helps with your imagery by literally climbing upward with Gordon. I like the uplifting feeling in this track which would be a nice ending to the game.

Overall: You have a great sense of string quintet composition and you applied that with multiple other more electronic genres which had the effect of distorting the perception of reality because what seemed to be one thing soon turned into something unexpected and different. This would be a really fun game to play! Well done and thank you for sharing!

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words and the attention you gave to the tracks :)

The last song with the rapid nots was funky!

Love the combination of plucked strings with delay. Gives a far out vibe.

Drum programming is tasteful too!

Favorite Track: Transcending The Dream

Developer

Thanks! Yeah the delay on the strings was intriguing to me/a happy accident and I enjoyed the idea of just heightening the fullness of them throughout the short track

As Fallen Muse said - big fan of combinations of both electric and acoustic elements. Not an easy feat to make things fit together properly, but when it works it sounds great. Really livens up the sound-space when you can borrow from two very different core sounds.

I think Waking Up in My Head is a great track to kick off the OST - orchestration and arrangement is well done and the percussion is nice and selective to drive the rhythm forward. I really like the string runs that kick in around the 40 second mark.

Good work! Best of luck in the jam. :)

I always love combining electric elements with acoustic instruments.  I especially liked the electronic beat switch ups in Transcending the Dream. In fact, there were a lot of great electronic elements in that song that I looked back and wished I heard more in the other 2 tracks. I also think a little more reverb and delay would help it feel even more dream like. The compositions themselves were very good.

I don't know if you thought that way but to me the orchestal sounds represent Gordon and his actions in the world he goes to in his dreams (electronic). If so, I think it was very smart that you mixed orchestra and electronic sounds.

Great job!

You know I didn't think of that lol But now that you've said it, it's the only way I can view the tracks. Thanks for that!

Simplistic but on-point with the scenario and the theme. Appreciated the original approach in the game's idea in relation with the theme. Enjoyed it!
