Description
The concept for this game follows a protagonist exploring the mind of a young girl, diving into her memories in the form of thought bubbles. The player must defeat her intrusive and negative thought bubbles in combat in order to clear her self-doubt, and they subsequently leave the girl's mind leaving a hopeful and positive impact behind.

This soundtrack was composed in FL Studio, and is largely ambient and synthwave.

'Step Inside' is the prologue, following the protagonist as they enter into the girl's mind, expanding from ambient synths to an explosion of colour and activity.

'Look Around' would be an exploration loop, underscoring the player as they drift around the girl's mind and encounter the thought bubbles there.

'Save Me From Myself' would score a final combat sequence, where the player has to defeat the girl's intrusive thoughts once and for all, and 'I'll Miss You' returns to the ambient synths of the prologue as the player leaves the girl's world to return to their own, having defeated their negative thoughts and left her in a more optimistic space.

I tried to make this soundtrack expansive and wondrous, slowly adding in tension and stakes and ending on a bittersweet note. The player and the girl each have their own leitmotifs, which intertwine and combine as their journeys cross over the course of the game, ultimately splitting apart once the player leaves the girl's world.

Theme

Inside my world
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The bubbles in the artwork are reinterpreted as thought bubbles within the girl's mind, and I interpreted the silhouette as a visual representation of a player inside the young girl's mind, engaging with her sense of self. The text prompt of 'inside my world' is interpreted as welcoming someone into their mind to look around, showing them what it's like inside their head and asking for their help in defeating their intrusive thoughts.

I love how ambient, yet dynamic Look Around is. I’m able to get lost in its world, while experiencing something new at every second. Save Me From Myself is beautifully composed and strikes a balance between the higher intensity of combat themes, yet still manages to stand amongst the calmer ambient tracks. I see I’ll Miss You as a darker track, almost as if coping with loss. I’m not sure if this is just me enjoying darker stories. Overall, amazing job!

thank you so much! that's very kind - i can see I'll Miss You having darker/heavier undertones, i feel there's definitely a sense of loss as the player is leaving

I went in blind and was brilliantly surprised by the synthwave mix with orchestral, well done. Composition is nice nothing felt out of place. Very well mixed I think I'll Miss You is my favourit. All the subtleties are well thought and it sounds so simple, enjoyed it. Good job.

I really love how your melodies layer and weave between each other especially in Step Inside (Prologue) and I'll Miss You (Epilogue). A beautiful listening experience!

Lush and beautiful. Those arpeggios in Step Inside with the progression just after is delicious!

The choice of tones Save me from myself were so foreign and yet blend spectacularly with the melody.

The tempo change in I'll Miss You  was great and that A# at 1:44 was chef's kiss!

Ear candy, thank you for your submission, really like it!

Your production and synth sounds are gorgeous! The end of Step Inside is my favorite with all the different counterlines and arps going on at the same time. And the end of I'll Miss You, especially the composition, is emotionally cathartic. Great work!

Developer

thank you so much! i'm so glad you enjoyed <3 also love your profile picture - celeste and chicory were two of my biggest inspirations for this soundtrack at the beginning! probably less obvious in the final product but hopefully it's still there hah

I did hear bits of Reach for the Summit in Save Me From Myself, but that's about it. I think it's just right - not too much and not too little!

Awesome!!! Best one I've listened to yet. My only complaint is I think the ascending synth comes in a little too loud, in my opinion kind of taking away from the subtlety of the piece. Despite this, I imagined the young girl taking her bubble momma by the hand and glide through the ocean seeing all there is to see. One of my favorites so far :)

Developer

ahhh thank you so much, that means a lot!! yeah i would definitely like to spend longer on mixing these at some point, there are definitely things i'd do differently with levels and eq^^ so glad you liked <3
