Description
"There's a Mountain Between Us" is a chamber music album, which imagines an adventure crossing a mountain, in order to reach the other side.
Highly inspired by Journey's instrumentation, Undertale's minimalist approach to melodic ideas, and Legend of Zelda's strong melodies, which don't need much more than a piano to make a lasting memory.
The album starts with the title track, "There's a Mountain Between Us", a melancholic track that aims to setup the expectation of the arrival. Followed by "Welcome To My Humble Abode", a videogameish track that came to be by imagining a small shop on the dark side of the mountain, where evil doesn't reach. "I'm Afraid Of The Wind" aims to setup the lostness in the snow while crossing the dark side of the mountain, where known melodies (and instruments) also get ingulfed by the sound of the acustic piano. Our arrival begins with "Home At Last", a minimalist track that exposes melodic ideas that were once only a tiny voice in the vastness of the soundscape. The grand finalle happens in "Waltz Of The Flying Man", a waltz about the richness of the world.
Each track was composed on my own piano, or sang by myself during my breaks from the jam, where I'd go for a walk in the mountains. These ideas were then passed to FL Studio, by DAW, where VST's were used. The only recorded part is the piano in "I'm Afraid Of The Wind".
Artist comment:
Inspired by the duality of the sides of a mountain, where one can have everything you want, and another has all the rest. The theme explores both the given image, and the concept of "Two Worlds", as I see that the image itself contains both a dark and a light side, which I imagined as a two-sided nature vs human mountain.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
Inspired by the duality of the sides of a mountain, where one can have everything you want, and another has all the rest, these were my two worlds, and what I also saw in the given image, as I see that the image itself contains both a dark and a light side, which I imagined as two-sidded nature vs human mountain. Two sides (worlds) also exist in the music, the melancholic side, sometimes harsh too, and the bright and warming side. All of them are, however, generally very lonely, as it is how I imagine whatever lives in the mountains.

"I'm afraid of the Wind" is a really good song and you perform it very well. It had a lot of pretty melodies, a good structure and was just very solid all around. The other tracks felt a bit weaker in comparison. I think you should go for self-recorded stuff more often.
I really appreciate the feedback! I honestly expected the complete opposite reaction to the track, but it seems people really digged it! For sure I'll be doing more of that.
I really enjoyed "I'm Afraid Of The Wind", with this melody lost behind the piano; that put a strong image in mind
really liked the Flying Man track!
Wow, this is just wonderful. I enjoyed I'm Afraid of the Wind as well, and really all the tracks. Thank you for your hard and productive work on this!
Nice job!!! My favorite was I’m Afraid Of The Wind!
I really like jazzy bass on "Welcome". and "Afraid of the Wind" seds chills down my spine... good job!
I love the contrasts between the songs and the fact that they still fit together!
i'm afraid of the wind reminds me of untitled goose game for some reason
and i mean that respectfully
I like that you pay attention to and value melodies as much as I do. The melody to Home at Last is quite beautiful. You paint a rich ambient picture in I'm Afraid Of The Wind with the sustained notes, and unlike many ambient tunes I have heard here so far there is still a melody, although very subtle and in the background. Nice!
Great diversity of styles, too. I like the swingy Welcome To My Humble Abode and the Waltz in the end is very refreshing too. Overall great bouquet of music!
You got no idea how incredibly happy your comment makes me feel! Recognizable melodies make everything more memorable and personal for me, and were definitely a focus I had in mind. Just being able to sing them, and play with them in different contexts, ahh I love it! Thanks for the wonderful words!
