Description
I made this for an adventure RPG featuring a lush and picturesque overworld and a dark and mysterious underworld.

Made in FL Studio with MIDI instruments played by me

Theme:

Two Worlds

How does it fit the theme?
I composed two soundtracks, one for each world using variations of a common theme to capture the setting/mood of the overworld and underworld, respectively

Great oldschool vibe, and good job making two tracks that have different vibes but mesh really well together

Overworld – I am very impressed with how full you were able to make this sound with a small sound palette. Just like classic SNES and the early VGM days it was truly art being able to make something great within the constraints of the system. Great job sticking to this convention even though you probably could have added more. I think it sounds great as is!

Underworld – It is cool how you used musical elements similar to the Overworld theme in this track as well. I agree with some of the other commenters how this brings back memories of some classic SNES tunes. Thank you so much for sharing!

As others have said, very reminiscent of Zelda, good stuff. Harmonies and rhythm are pretty good and I think you did a very good job at working the same motifs into two very distinct and opposing themes. I think the main thing that's missing in your piece compared to Zelda music is a really catchy and memorable melodic idea. Or maybe figure out what your best ideas are and try to elaborate on it a bit more. If you improve on your melodies (and maybe find some slightly better sounding instruments), I think these would turn into top-tier tracks.

Love the dichotomy between the two themes. Sound selection is perfect and the melodies are great!

Beautiful job! Love the sounds you used (:

Really charming soundtrack, it was really nostalgic it made me remeber the nes era, and idk why but the overworld theme, makes me imagine those desert fields in zelda games hahaha, really good work

My nostalgic self is now trapped in a dungeon

These pieces are ✨✨✨ I agree with many people in the comments likening it to classic SNES soundtracks and Zelda especially but with something of a new character and energy
these are wonderful

Your overworld theme sounds like it should be in a gameboy zelda game!

Your work is really cool!! It reminded me a lot of Koji Kondo's work in Zelda. Which brings up something I really liked, its use of leitmotifs between songs. Very Koji Kondo style. I only think the first song, and this is not a criticism just a matter of choices, a little colorful sounds like spring or summer to me and not like the winter image. I would like to understand your view on this later if you want to answer. I'm interested in understanding your choices. Congratulations on your work, I really liked it

this one definitely brings back memories of legend of zelda but also Super mario RPG, very nicee. but i agree that the quality could be better, maybe if you leave aside the original console limitations and add a few more plugins, but hey, it is your choice, stiil good job

I really really like this, and this is a very strong representation of the theme! The instruments hold it back just a bit, though that also helps give a SNES JRPG vibe (I'll second the comments that said its reminiscent of Link to the Past.) I'd like to help polish up the quality if you sent the MIDI to me!

Thanks for the feedback!

I do think the SNES - like instruments have a unique charm. Incidentally, this is the best quality of instruments I have achieved so far.😅 I'm fairly new to using DAWs for composing and would very much like to learn how to polish MIDI tracks and make them sound more realistic. PM me and let's get in touch. I'll gladly accept your help!

Really strong composition here. I think you've done a great job of giving each track a distinct identity while also tying them together very well. I also liked the way the instruments sounded. Very evocative of music from the N64 era of games.

Thanks! Coming up with one theme and bending it for different purposes is the most fun part of composing imo. I'm glad you like the old school vibe. This means a lot to me.

I like the style of the music a lot, especially the opening of Underworld! Very nostalgic :)

Really like the two different atmospheres

It seems that you enjoyed A Link to the Past ^^

This is great, I really like your melodies! This almost gives me Slime Rancher vibes for some reason

Developer(+1)

Ha! I don't consciously recall the soundtrack of Slime Rancher but I loved that game!

Gives me good memories of old JRPGs. I like how the theme continues but changes tone.
I want to live in the 'Underworld'!

Overworld- Those strings you chose really feel like they'd fit in a SNES game. I enjoy how this came together. Good job with the panning on the different elements (something I always forget to do 😅). The break of the normal pattern into a more melodic interlude at the end was really great!

Underworld- Getting some great Link to the Past vibes in this. Keeping that upbeat momentum with the strings while also making things feel much darker. Love how it all came together!

Thanks! I definitely got a lot of inspiration from SNES era RPGs, including Zelda.
