Description
Genre: Electronic/Ambient

About the game: Would be an action/adventure game about exploring a harsh alien environment, both above and below ground.

About the track: This track is somewhat conceptual in nature as rather than being created with any one gameplay scenario in mind, different sections were created to flow together in order to illustrate a change in music as response to different events such as exploring the environment or fighting off hostile creatures.

DAW used: FL Studio

Theme:

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
I based the general feel of this track off of the image provided. I imagined a game taking place in a barren landscape where players explore above and below ground environments.

I like the stark atmosphere you create at the beginning. The shaker that is playing a polyrhythm adds a lot of interest to the track and I like that you double that particular rhythm with a pulsing bass. The adaptive music elements add a lot to your track and help paint a picture of the world you envision us exploring in your game idea. Thank you for sharing!

I appreciate the comment! Thanks for listening!

I quite liked the latter half of the song, having a "calm before the storm" moment was a nice touch and also the climax itself was pretty fun. For my personal taste, the buildup before that went on for a little too long or could have used a little more variation. Now if you would excuse me, I think there's someone at my door.

(because the bell at the end kind of sounded like a door bell)

(not funny? okay, fine, I'll show myself out)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Adding a little more variety to the song is something I would definitely do if I had some more time to work on the song.

Very good use of SFX, and the rhythm later in the song was wild in a good way!

Developer

Thanks! I had a lot of fun putting the rhythm for the drums together for the second part of the song. Glad you liked it!

This is SUPER clean! It just feels good to listen to, and it absolutely nails the alien landscape feel. I especially loved the part at around 2:18. It jumpscared me, but in a good way! Definitely my favorite part of the track. It's just so intense!

Developer

I really wanted to play around with different levels of intensity to convey the theme of the jam, so I'm glad to hear you liked the more intense section. Thanks for listening!

Love the creepy vibe and sound effects, they fit the picture theme red phase so well!

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The red version of the picture theme definitely was a big influence on how I approached creating this track.

Great bouquet of sound effects. Some sound like creatures even.  Definitely creepy at times. Paints a vivid picture of an alien world, although I would have hoped to hear a bit of a contrast to another world.  I like the more upbeat section towards the end. I can sense  danger there!

Developer

I'm glad you like the use of sound effects! I did spend a fair amount of time playing around with them trying to create an ambience to set the general mood of the track.  I would agree that the song lacks a bit of contrast in terms of fitting the jam's theme. If I had more time, I would probably expand on a B-section of the track to emphasize that.

Thanks for the feedback!
